16.01.2022 Margate Community Bank has awarded university student Cameron Powers the 2020 Youth Education Scholarship. A Southern Cross Catholic College graduate, Cameron is studying a Bachelors of Science/Arts (BSc/BA) dual program at The University of Queensland. Cameron’s hope is to further study medicine and work with regional communities. The scholarship program has really opened my eyes up to community banking, and the banking industry generally, and the aspects of re-investing ...into the community in which the branch operates is a great asset for the areas in which community banks operate, Cameron said. According to the Chairman of the Board which runs the branch, Serge Paggiaro, Cameron was selected from a group of highly accomplished applicants, all of whom would have been worthy. Cameron’s scholarship provides for $2,500 to help him with his university expenses this year, Mr Paggiaro said. This is the eighth year we have run the scholarship program, and this year it was even more difficult to choose from among the highly competitive applications. We’re pleased the program is becoming more established within Redcliffe Peninsula schools, and we are very proud to have helped eight students in their higher education. Previous scholarship recipients, Daniel Petravicius (who has subsequently joined the Board of Directors and chairs the scholarship committee) and Connor Vellnagel were among the judges for this year’s applicants. It was great to see such a high number of applications coming through, Daniel said. With the assistance of the Margate Community Bank, I can focus on my studies and helping people within the community, added Cameron. I’m sincerely grateful for the support of the bank, and encourage all current high school students to apply for this scholarship. I guarantee you will not regret it. (L-R) Chairman Serge Paggiaro, YES recipient Cameron Powers, Branch Manager Gavin Daw.

16.01.2022 Margate Community Bank has recently become a proud exhibitor of artwork by local award-winning Tricia Reust Visual Artist. A long-standing Bendigo Bank shareholder who has lived with her family on the Redcliffe Peninsula for over 30 years, Tricia respects and supports Bendigo Bank’s commitment to local communities. It’s important for artists to have their work on show rather than hidden away in the studio, so I am really appreciative of this opportunity to have my work up i...n front of the community, said Tricia. The three mixed media works in the public area of the branch reflect Tricia’s love of texture and landscape, and featured in the four artist collaboration ‘Four Palettes 2020 Exhibition’ held at Redcliffe’s Old Fire Station Gallery earlier this year. Discussing the pieces, Tricia said, All my latest work is exploring layering with glazes and texture. ‘Cross Over’ and ‘Drying Waterway’ are from scenes in Outback Queensland, and ‘Incense’ explores the colours in smoke. The diminishing habitat of koalas is the theme of the two works ‘False Security’ and ‘Treeless Plains’ displayed in the branch office areas. We were certainly spoilt for choice when selecting pieces for the branch, said Branch Manager, Gavin Daw. The feedback from our customers on the artwork and our support of a popular local artist has been overwhelmingly positive.
