25.01.2022 Hey Brisbane It feels like ground-hog day, doesn't it? During this lockdown I've already deep-cleaned the lounge room and found a puzzle piece the cat ran off with some weeks ago. ... What are you doing this weekend? Cooking up a storm? Puzzles? Reading War & Peace? Sewing a mask or two? Stay strong everyone. We can do this.

24.01.2022 September is National Biodiversity Month Our health and well-being are enhanced and protected by nature. In fact, Traditional Chinese Medicine places us in the 'terrain' and the 'terrain' in us. ... Light, earth, water, wind, plants and growth; they're all in our model of assessment and care. In our bodies and lives, they manifest as consciousness, sleep, nutrition and digestion, movement and activity, work and our life cycles. There are some great suggestions in this article which will help to strengthen our connection to nature, and which help us too. You can start small; just looking out the window at the birds in your neighbourhood, looking at signs of growth on shrubs in a local park, checking on the weeds in your back yard, saving water. Each of these is an chance to unhook from current affairs, maybe get a little sun on our backs, and move some stuck, stagnant energy. This week I'm observing the soil in my backyard and looking closely at the health of my plants, including the weeds! What do you enjoy, there in your own micro-environment? What can you see right now? More here: https://hlw.org.au/new/how-can-i-help-protect-biodiversity/

23.01.2022 There's a lot going on in the world. This weekend, I hope you're able to enjoy some carefree playfulness and maybe just hang out for a bit. https://www.instagram.com/p/CFk4NpIFDwV/?igshid=f8aqagoojwus

20.01.2022 Yep, it's been a bit quiet on my page lately. I've been busy! Yesterday I received my certificate of Permaculture Design.... I was fortunate to spend the last four months with an amazing, supportive and inspiring cohort and teachers. Permaculture is a natural fit with traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, regenerative gardening, urban sustainability and the change we want to see in the world. I recommend it! Message me if you'd like to know more.

19.01.2022 Hi Everyone If trying a new creative skill, or revisiting an old one is on your 2021 list, take a look at this. I think the idea arose during lockdown, somewhere in the world in 2020.... This is a still-life drawing prompt. Just for fun, you might like to mess around with a pencil, a texta or a crayon, and make a scribbly, scrappy sketch of this arrangement. Or you might like to give it a red hot go and create your own masterpiece. Click through to their Instagram account for more info and inspiration. People all around the world are sharing their responses to the prompts. Expressing ourselves through any kind of creative activity moves and cultivates our qi. Ps: you're welcome to share your work here, if you like! https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ3t1fqh5T1/

18.01.2022 Today - and yesterday - I've been updating my First Aid and CPR certificates. Earlier today I had to assess and care for my orange companion who'd been found unconscious. First Aid currency is a mandatory requirement for my work, but I think knowing First Aid is an essential life skill.... On a few occasions I've had to use what I've learned; a car crash, sports injuries, burns, head injuries. How about you? Do you have a First Aid certificate?

14.01.2022 Phytonutrients. Maybe you've heard of them, but aren't sure what they are, or you've wondered if you need a supplement or not? This article looks at some well-known phytonutrients and how you can enjoy them in whole foods.... In Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, we pay attention to your digestion as well as your everyday diet. People who might be helped with some tweaks to their diet are anyone with chronic inflammation, fatigue, sub-fertility, and of course, digestive issues. https://theconversation.com/phytonutrients-can-boost-your-h

13.01.2022 Hi Everyone If you're a fan of TED Talks, you might like this playlist. https://www.ted.com/playlists//10_days_of_positive_thinking

13.01.2022 Big breath. Exhale. Let your shoulder blades slide down your back. Stop and smell the roses. Or something like that.... https://www.instagram.com/p/CHL9H3cJX7y/ See more

11.01.2022 Here in Brisbane it's a public holiday. Some of us are spring-cleaning, some are snoozing, some are travelling or day-tripping. I've cleaned out my fridge, and am making use of an old avocado, discarded sourdough starter, blitzed lima beans, rose petals, rose water and a drip of honey. You guessed it! I've made face mask - scrub.... What are you up to today? See more

09.01.2022 This book, founded in the healing traditions of Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine and herbalism was recently suggested to me. Before I recommend it to clients I'll take a good look. So far, I agree with what I'm seeing.... "The social pressure to get back to the hot, sexy, non-mom self is enormous. The turbulence caused by the transition into motherhood is real, and yet, we are left totally without any guidance as to how we are to restore ourselves after such a tremendous body and life altering experience." It's 32 years since I had my first baby, and post-partum support and nurture is still not something we do very well in our culture. I'm glad we're finally talking about the 'fourth trimester'.

09.01.2022 Hi Melbourne, Hi Victoria We know it's not over for you yet. This post - click and swipe for the full message - accurately describes what it's like for everyone coming out of prolonged lockdown.... We're thinking of you. https://www.instagram.com/p/CGqkvunDI5X/?igshid=ckrvwn92ws76

06.01.2022 Hi Brisbane! In case you were wondering, here's the nitty-gritty about disposable masks, if you're using them. If you were wondering, in clinic, I wear a fresh mask for each client.... I hope you're all going okay with the hurly-burly of the last few days.

06.01.2022 It's a serene, cool day here in the clinic; very Yin in nature. If you're feeling sore, tight, stressed or just plain uncomfortable, come and see us. We still have some appointments available this week.

05.01.2022 Neck pain, tension and discomfort in the upper back, shoulders and down the arms are some of the most common reasons people come for acupuncture and remedial massage therapy. So much a part of 21st century life, we call it 'Computer Neck'. This yoga sequence is something you can do every day between your visits for acupuncture and remedial massage therapy.... You could do most of this sequence sitting in a chair. Skip anything you know is beyond you, and please don't push a stretch past your level of comfort and ease. As Adriene would say: "find what feels good". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3-gKPNyrTA

01.01.2022 ...and here's a little joey learning to stand. Watching this reminds me to step up and away from my desk with all its screens and tasks; to exhale, square my shoulders and look ahead. We've seen so many people with 'Computer Neck' and 'Work-from-Home' back pain this year.... If you're constantly stiff and sore between your shoulder blades and up into your neck, come and see us. We can help you with that. https://www.instagram.com/p/CHV_M6vgTyO/?igshid=5xzr0agwioao

01.01.2022 It's springtime here, and many of us are *afflicted*. Each spring I see a number of people who are struggling with the unpleasant symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis: hay fever and/or sinusitis. This year everything's trickier and people are wondering if or when they should have a COVID19 test, as some of the symptoms are the same.... As ever, the first thing to do is contact your GP and get their advice. If you're suffering acute respiratory distress - such as coughing and wheezing - and having trouble breathing CALL 000 immediately. Once you have the all-clear from your Dr and all test results are clear, it's okay to book your acupuncture appointments. This is a handy article. https://www.abc.net.au//hay-fever-or-covid-19-cor/12623060

01.01.2022 Today I've learned something new. There's a planet-friendly diet; planetarian. "At its core are fresh, minimally processed foods plus halving red meat consumption while doubling the intake of fruit and veg."... Apparently it's similar to the Mediterranean diet (my favourite). You can learn a little more here: https://thenewdaily.com.au//29/planetary-diet-healthy-cost/ Have you ever defined your regular diet, or given it a name? Are you able to grow any of your food at home?
