24.01.2022 All this hot weather is taking its toll! Our beautiful corriander has gone to seed and the broccoli and cauliflower isnt far off seeding too! The Well/bore is getting low so we're having to importing water; every drop counts and we've turned on our drip irrigation for drought conditions once again!

24.01.2022 GG Wollongong; back to your roots. - Beauty and the beet* - "Once upon a time, around 2,000 B.C., there grew a magical plant in the Mediterranean region. Ancient civilizations heralded the plant as a miraculous food source and lauded its high nutrient content, long storability, and adaptability to a wide variety of climates. Hearing of its splendor, people everywherefrom Thebes to the Netherlandsplanted its seeds and reaped its bounty. So beloved was the plant that people ...continue to cultivate it to this day, ensuring that its mystical qualities live on" (1). >> Catch our beets in the winter veg box going out Thursday and Sunday evenings! Send us a message to organise one! Free delivery from Shellharbour - Bulli! >> Grated, boiled, sliced, juiced or baked Add them to your dinner plate! They are high in folic acid, fiber, manganese and potassium, and their greens are also rich in calcium, iron and vitamins A and C (smoothie or salad?!). Beetroots are best known for their colour. This deep purple/red colour is betalain pigment (a Betacyanin) and has been shown to combat high blood pressure and hypertension(2) and T-cell growth in cancers (3). Don't be surprised if your waste is a nicer shade of pink after a good serving! We're currently growing heirloom (c. 1892) beets - the Detroit Dark Red! _______________________________________________ *We regret the use of beetroot to refer to particular parliamentarian members as it is an insult to beetroots everywhere. _______________________________________________ 1 http://americanhistory.si.edu//06/beauty-and-the-beets.html 2 Turner JM & Spatz ES, 2016, Nutritional Supplements for the Treatment of Hypertension: A Practical Guide for Clinicians, Curr Cardiol Rep. 2016 Dec; 18 (12):126. 3 Scarpa ES et al, 2016, Betacyanins enhance vitexin-2-O-xyloside mediated inhibition of proliferation of T24 bladder cancer cells. 10.01.2022 Welcome everyone! Thanks for your support! Im a Wollongong based grower that wants to provide you with nutritious, fresh, and locally grown foods that are grown in a way that is good for us and the planet! >> How can you support us?! (and why should you?!) - Become a GG grower! Interested in permaculture, bio-dynamic farming, and holistic management? You dont need to own land! Im renting land around the community to grow on!... - Buy local and organic! Be it us (GG Wollongong) or any other locally based organic grower - you dollar is your vote! - Follow us, comment, and learn about our growing techniques and how you can do your part for a better future. As well as help us know what you like! Im currently trying to grow 'Bio-dynamically' which basically means I treat my farm as an ecosystem, whereby I manage soil biology, bugs, birds, and bees to provide the plants we eat the protection and nutrients they require. Of course, this means that sometimes I have crops attacked or fail, but as I continue to farm in this way soil ecosystems will regenerate and build over time! (and ill post about it so you are share my joy cut short) This means that we must grow a diversity of plants (a 'polyculture') and hence we aim to sell our produce as 'organic value boxes' to minimise food waste, plant closer together and utilise plant-plant symbiotic relations! AND! hopefully introduce you to some foods that you wouldn't normally try

03.01.2022 We strive for the most nutrient dense foods we can grow! - we build our soil function naturally over time, any artificial fertilisers or pesticides destroy our soil life leaving it lifeless and completely dependent on fertiliser inputs! #regenerative #agriculture #goodglobe #vegiebox #wollongong #healthfood #planethealth
