06.01.2022 Thanks for forwarding the documentation regarding class rules/specifications and the revised square top rig for the Mari 5.0. This was very helpful and has enab...led me to calculate a more definitive AS yardstick for the Mari 5.0 class, including the Maricat Association approved Super Sloop variant. I confirmed the stated sail areas by use of a cad program with sail measurements taken from the class rules/diagrams. I also amended my original slightly inaccurate measurements for loa, lwl, beam and centerboard projection. My "Australian version" of the SCHRS spreadsheet was then used to calculate yardsticks for the 3 variants, all with either pin-head or sq top mainsails with areas of 14.0 m2 (pinhead) and 14.8 m2 (sq Top) + a mast area of 1.4 m2 for both. The "ready to sail" boat weight was adopted as 135 kg (Cat) and 139 kg (Sloop/Super Sloop). I believe that these figures are consistent with your provided all up boat weight of 135 kg, but is the only remaining measurement still in some doubt. However, should you have a chance to weigh one or more competitive boats as and when you have a chance, that would be much appreciated. Platform and mast (including all fittings+rigging etc) would be good enough, as I have typical measurements of the remaining fittings etc for 5m classes, such as the Taipan. The sail plan area surprised me, compared to the Taipan 4.9, and I had an earlier measurement of 4.3 m2 for the jib instead of the 4.6 m2 from class jib measurement specs. For comparison, the Taipan 4.9 has a Sq Top main of 13.5 m2 (+1.4 m2 for mast) and jib of 4.2 m2. I have revised the Australian Sailing Catamaran Yardsticks table and documentation, including adding a Super Sloop variant. The revised/additional figures are below: Maricat 5.0 Cat 79.5 NA 75 1 up trap (+2 for Pin Head) Maricat 5.0 Sloop 75 -6 133 Sloop - 2 up trap (+1 for Pinhead) Maricat 5.0 Super Sloop 74.5 NA 85 1 up trap (+1.5 for Pinhead)
