25.01.2022 Last week, Marina Radiology celebrated 21 years of being a part of this wonderful community In that time, we have grown from one small practice to thirteen multi-disciplinary clinics, which provide a broad range of services to our patients! We are one of the longest privately owned partnerships in Victoria and we still operate fiercely as an affordable, largely bulk-billing business in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne where we first began. Happy 21st Marina!
24.01.2022 A conversation could change a life. R U OK? Day is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that any day is the day to ask, Are you OK? and support those struggling with life. This year's message is 'There's more to say after R U OK?' It's not always obvious that someone is struggling - and we sometimes need to be reminded to trust our gut instinct and dig a bit deeper.... Find out more by heading to @ruokday or go to their website at ruok.org.au See more
24.01.2022 At 20 weeks gestation, a morphology ultrasound scan is usually performed to check the babys and mothers wellbeing. This scan involves sonographers identifying and measuring many of the baby's developing organs, including the heart and its four chambers, their head and tummy circumference, their body length, as well as their hands and feet. Some morphology scans also have 3D technology which allows us to see life-like images like the one above! Swipe to see some of the structures we can see in a morphology scan!

23.01.2022 June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, a Bowel Cancer Australia initiative to raise awareness of Australia's second deadliest cancer and raise funds for the leading community-funded charity dedicated to prevention, early diagnosis, research, quality treatment and the best care for everyone affected by bowel cancer. Bowel cancer claims the lives of 103 Australians every week (5,375 people a year) - but it's one of the most treatable types of cancer if found early. While the ris...k of bowel cancer increases significantly with age, the disease doesn't discriminate, affecting men and women, young and old. 1 in 13 Australians will be diagnosed with bowel cancer in their lifetime. 15,604 Australians will be diagnosed with the disease this year. #BowelCancerAustralia #BowelCancerAwarenessMonth
22.01.2022 Did you know the use of X-rays goes beyond medicine? X-rays have been used in the art world to examine paintings to discover rough sketches and even other paintings beneath a visible surface Picasso's works are perfect subjects for this because he often changed direction during the painting process. He used old used canvases to create new works. By reflecting x-rays on different colour pigments, we can isolate layers of paint and see more of Picasso's amazing masterpieces! Swipe to see Picasso's final work "La Miséreuse accroupie"
21.01.2022 A huge THANK YOU to all of our staff & patients for their overwhelming support with our 2018 Charity Drive! Your generosity will help to bring joy to numerous homeless youths supported by the Lighthouse Foundation this Christmas! Lighthouse Foundation

20.01.2022 CT scans are a primary method of confirming a stroke and determining whether it is because a clot has reduced the blood supply to the brain, or because there is a bleed in the brain. This information helps us make life-altering treatment decisions and is used in the initial phase when a patient presents with symptoms of a stroke. An MRI is another useful mode of imaging and is used by doctors to assess the extent of damage that resulted from a stroke. This is done by l...ooking at images of blood flow in the brain. If a patient is considered to be at risk for stroke or has displayed transient symptoms, an ultrasound of the carotid artery in the neck is often also recommended. Stroke Foundation See more

18.01.2022 HAPPY INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY! Thank you to Australia's incredible nurses for all that you do!
17.01.2022 This chest X-ray has a little something extra, can you tell what it is? Swipe to see the answer! A cervical rib is an extra rib that grows out of the bones in the neck just above the collarbone and is present from birth. Often, these ribs are not fully formed as in the patient shown here. One in every 200-500 people has a cervical rib. They can be found on the right, left or both sides of the neck. ... Cervical ribs are usually benign, but they can be more dangerous if they compress surrounding vessels or nerve, causing numbness or neck pain. This is called thoracic outlet syndrome. See more
17.01.2022 The art of medicine includes attending to your patients for more than just their physical needs. It requires seeing them as a whole person, considering their feelings, circumstances and wishes. Medicine, properly practiced, is always all about the patient.
17.01.2022 One-fifth of Australians aged 45 - 74 years are at high risk of having a heart attack or stroke in the next five years. This Heart Week were supporting Heart Foundation by urging you to understand your risk and have a Heart Health Check today. #showsometicker
15.01.2022 WE'RE BACK! It's business as usual at Marina Dandenong following our unexpected, temporary closure. Thank you for everyone's understanding during this period
14.01.2022 Nuclear medicine imaging makes it easy to find information about the function of organs that cannot be found through other kinds of imaging. It uses small radioactive tracers that have a short half-life and lose their radioactivity very quickly to give us a better picture of what is happening inside the body. It can be used in a wide range of conditions including orthopaedic, renal, cardiac, gastrointestinal and endocrine. Marina offers bulk billing of nuclear medicine scans at our Berwick site, with a short appointment waitlist and a nuclear medicine physician onsite. Contact our nuclear medicine team on 9707 0789 if you have any questions or queries.

12.01.2022 Myocardial Perfusion scan, also known as MIBI or thallium, is a test that uses nuclear medicine to tell us how much blood is being supplied to the muscular tissue of the heart when it is resting and when it is under stress. MIBI involves administration of a small dose of radiation to the patient. This is a safe and non-invasive test which can help us assess the severity of coronary artery disease and determine the effectiveness of coronary stent procedures. Marina offers short wait times and bulk billing for myocardial perfusion scans. Call 1300 0 XRAYS to book an appointment, or submit an enquiry online!
12.01.2022 Thank you to our wonderful patients & staff for your generous contributions to our annual charity drive for the Lighthouse Foundation! Your kindness will help to nourish children across Victoria fighting homelessness

12.01.2022 Ultrasound is sound waves with frequencies higher than the upper audible limit of human hearing- only dogs and cats can hear these waves! Ultrasound was first used for clinical purposes in 1956. We use ultrasound to help us produce images of body organs by sending waves, receiving echoes from different body tissues and finally putting it all into an image. This is similar to the way dolphins and even submarines use sound to get an appreciation of their surroundings! It is used to help diagnose the causes of pain, swelling and infection in the body's internal organs and to examine a baby in pregnant women and the brain and hips in infants. It's also used to help guide biopsies, diagnose heart conditions, and assess damage after a heart attack. It's certainly a jack-of-all trades!

06.01.2022 Light, ultraviolet waves, microwaves and x-rays are all different kinds of electromagnetic waves. Although the colours we see around us are in the visible light spectrum, we can use advances in technology to see other kinds of waves around us! NASA has been using this technology to get a better look at all kinds of things in space that gives off x-rays, from back holes to neutron stars to supernova remnants to our own sun. One of the things we've been able to identify is... the aurora high in earth's atmosphere! This photo was taken in March 1996. It shows the area of brightest X-ray emission is red. 01.01.2022 Your spine is one of the most important parts of your body because it gives you structure and support. Without a spine, you would not be able to stand up and move freely. It protects your spinal cord, which gives off all the nerves that allow you to do everything from running and swimming, to cooking and eating, to digestion and breathing! In 2017, 227 Australians suffered spinal cord injuries due to trauma and 147 due to other causes such as infection, disc herniation and ...cancer. This week, we want to raise awareness of spinal cord injuries and the impact they can have on people's day-to-day lives. In partnering with #spinallifeaustralia, we want to encourage our community to recognise that accessibility equals opportunity. To find out more, head to www.spinal.com.au See more
