25.01.2022 What is your fitness goal ?

25.01.2022 MYTH OR FACT? You should choose sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes. ... . . MYTH ! Both types of potatoes can be healthy choices for your diet, depending on how they are prepared (i.e., not fried!) and your portion sizes. The facts when it comes to calories, protein, and carbs, they are similar in their content. But white potatoes have more potassium and anti-cancer compounds called glycoalkaloids. Potatoes that have been cooked then cooled (hello potato salad!) also contain something called resistant starch, which is an indigestible gut-friendly compound that helps you feel full. Meanwhile, sweet potatoes have a lot of vitamin A and antioxidants. They also are a little lower on the glycemic index, which means they make your blood sugar rise more slowly than white potatoes. THE TAKEAWAY: You can enjoy both kinds of potatoes as part of a balanced and healthy diet. Which are you favorite!? Let me know below! REFERENCES: www.healthline.com/nutrition/sweet-potato-vs-potato

22.01.2022 MYTH OR FACT Working past the age of 65 is linked with earlier death. ... . . MYTH! A study reported in a CDC journal found that compared with people who retired, those who worked past the age of 65 were about 3x more likely to report being in good health. And they also were about HALF as likely to have health problems like heart disease or cancer. Important note: This isn’t the case for all jobs and all people! According to a separate study, working in jobs that are stressful and/or physically demanding, or that you find boring or without meaning, may not have the positive health associations. The takeaway: working at something you love doing may have health benefits as you age! REFERENCE: www.health.harvard.edu//working-later-in-life-can-pay-off-

07.01.2022 How does YOUR yogurt measure up?? A lot of us get our gut-healthy probiotics from yogurt! But how do you choose the BEST one!? Here’s a list of tips to buy the healthiest yogurt ... Ingredients: Less is more! Sugar: Aim for 10 grams or less per serving. Note: there’s some natural sugar in dairy products, so pay special attention to added sugar. Plain yogurt has the least sugar, but it’s nothing a few fresh blueberries can’t fix! Live and active cultures: Yogurt isn’t yogurt without S. thermophilus or L. bulgaricus, but it gets bonus points if it also contains L. acidophilus, which can help you digest it more easily. Protein: Aim for 5 OR MORE grams of protein per serving. Greek usually has the most. Protein not only helps your body repair, rebuild, and recover, but it also keeps you feeling full between meals. Taste: Find one with a taste you enjoy, because it won’t do you any good if it just sits in your fridge! My personal favorite yogurt is X! What’s your fave yogurt? Let me know in the comments! 07.01.2022 If you use a lot of disinfecting cleaners in your house, YOU NEED TO READ THIS... A study from Canada found disinfectants can affect gut bacteria in young children AND could lead to obesity. Disinfectants are designed to kill bacteria and they are found in many home cleaning products.... The researchers analyzed the gut microbiomes of more than 750 babies aged 3-4 months. Then, when the babies were ages 1 and 3, they recorded their weight. Scientists also looked at the child’s exposure to disinfectants, detergents, and eco-friendly cleaning products. They found that the babies in homes with regular disinfectant use had lower levels of some bacteria (haemophilus and clostridium) and higher levels of others (lachnospiraceae). Plus, their body mass index was higher when it was measured at age 3. Researchers didn’t find these same results with babies exposed to eco-friendly cleaners. This isn’t to scare you- I just want you to be informed of the latest research! Our gut is affected not just by what we eat, but also our environment! If this is a concern for you, it’s definitely worth looking into eco-friendly cleaners ... there are so many good ones on the market now. Do you use eco-friendly cleaners? What’s your go-to? 07.01.2022 Turns out, teamwork really DOES make the dream work! I love this study! It shows how people are more apt to have self control when they depend on each other even first-graders! Here’s what happened: researchers paired up 5- and 6-year-olds and had them play toss with each other. Then, they put each partner in a separate room, and put a cookie in front of them.... The kids were told that if they waited 15 minutes to eat the cookie, they’d get another cookie as a reward. But some of the kids were told that they’d get the second cookie only if both they and their partner who they couldn’t see! waited to eat the first cookie! Compared to kids who weren’t told about the other kids, the ones who knew their friends were depending on them (and vice versa) were less apt to eat the first cookie. Pretty cool, huh? Just shows the power of having accountability and social support! So why not bring your friend with you next time you do your PT sessions ? 01.01.2022 Life can be incredibly busy at times, and we might not always be able to go our hardest... Introducing the dial method: an incredibly simple tool for scaling your health habits up and down based on what’s going on in your life. You simply "Dial" the amount of movement you are able to do up or down depending on how your week looks. For example, you might be moving house and are therefore limited on time. In that case you might dial down your movement to 1 or 2.... or the opposite...You have a week of from work and really want to focus on your health. In that case you can dial your movement up to say 7 or higher. Instead of all or nothing, this method helps you strive for always something.

01.01.2022 Where are you at today on this?? How much sugar is considered too much? First, it’s important to know there are natural sugars (the kind naturally found in fruits and dairy) and added sugars (like the sugar in processed food and the sweetener sugar, honey, maple syrup, etc. you ADD to your coffee/tea/etc.). ... The max amount of added sugars you should eat in a day is: Women: 6 teaspoons (100 calories or 25 grams) Men: 9 teaspoons (150 calories or 37 grams) That’s according to the American Heart Association. Once you know these numbers, it makes it a lot easier to track your intake on your food labels! Tip: Have you had more or less than that so far today?! Comment and let me know!
