08.01.2022 We thought we'd Shannon Thorne's message to all Marist180 staff for this year's NAIDOC week. "The theme for NAIDOC week 2020 is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’. This theme recognises truth and the continually occupied care for our beautiful country by Australia’s First Nations people. Since time immemorial, in fact for over 65,000 years! our people are proud to be the first nation’s people and we are elementary about our history, resilience and diversity.... We take pride in our spirituality and cultural connectedness to this country, managing the land, remembering our memories, customs and always respecting our elders. As traditional custodians, we serve to protect and foster what our people have fought and still fight for, our county. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to celebrate our nation’s story, it’s also important to recognise the diversity within our caretaker model of this country. When Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people peel all the layers back, it is paramount that we are able to call our mother earth HOME. It is important to understand the past of our First Nations people and the truth in history, to move collectively toward a better future. I encourage all individuals to do some homework around this year’s theme (Always was, Always will be)." Shannon Thorne Senior Manager Social Inclusion Marist180 #NAIDOC2020

06.01.2022 On the 12th anniversary of the National Apology, all of us here at Marist180 took time to stop and reflect on the significance of the day. Shannon Thorne, our Senior Manager for Social Inclusion, addressed our staff in Blacktown, Sydney. Whilst today’s generation is not responsible, it’s important to remember and honour those who were stolen, their parents and families and acknowledge the impacts still being felt by our children and our grandchildren. We encourage thought and discussion about our history and what we want for our future. I am extremely grateful and honoured to be standing here at Marist180 to talk about the historic events that took place and hope that you understand and appreciate the importance of the role you are playing in all of our people’s future. Shannon Thorne - Senior Manager for Social Inclusion at Marist180
