19.01.2022 Here's the final video of the Year 9 Projects classes Rube Goldberg machines. Our Year 9 Projects class have been busy creating their own Rube Goldberg Machines. A Rube Goldberg machine can only have human input to start the machine and must solve a problem (such as turning a light on, putting a ball into a basket or pouring water into a glass). Last week, students were asked to create a mini machine, with the aim that they would create more elaborate machines this week, making sure that each machine uses four different types of energy and some sort of electric power. The students were then required to analyse the different types of energy used in their creations! Video 3/3

18.01.2022 Today is National Health and Physical Education Day! Our Health and PE Team have put together this video to remind us of the importance of Health and PE in school. 18.01.2022 Year 10 Art students were asked to create a 3D artwork using an animal as initial source that then took on either human or steampunk traits. Students looked at artist, Natsumi Tomita as inspiration and then developed their own piece through brainstorming, trialling and finally modelling their finished sculpture. Students were able to source materials from both home and school. Remote learning hasn’t slowed down our art students who are still creating amazing pieces at home!

17.01.2022 We're back! Reception is now open. We will be closing early this Wednesday, 20 January, due to a planned power outage in the area. We apologise for any inconvenience.

17.01.2022 School holidays provide a great opportunity for things to get done around our grounds and this break is no exception! We are excited to have installed a playground for our Year 7 students to use when we are back on site in Term 4. Big thanks to our amazing Wellbeing Team for helping to bring this project to life!

17.01.2022 Congratulations to Daniel Schellekens, the Dux of the the Class of 2020. All his hard work resulted in an ATAR of 98.80. Rachel Willig also did very well, achieving our highest study score - 46, in English. Congrats to all in the Class of 2020 who did their best despite the many challenges they faced, including two lockdowns. Every one of them successfully received a VCAL or VCE certificate. Well done also to the staff and parents who supported them. Students who achieved the highest study scores in subjects with 5 or more students will be invited to our VCE Awards Assembly on 4 February 2021.

14.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all dads for Sunday! Let’s show our dads (and father figures) how much we appreciate them. We pray with thanks for them all: God our Father, We give you thanks and praise for fathers, young and old.... We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation. May they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice. We pray for fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; May they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow. We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice. We remember fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory. We thank you for the inspiration their love and lives still give. Amen. See more

11.01.2022 May peace and joy be with all in our community! After the worry and isolation of 2020, I hope you can savour the gift of each other's presence as you celebrate Christmas. The relevance of this ancient birth is summed up poetically by Meister Eckhart, a 14th Century mystic. He reminds us that we continue the work which began that first Christmas: What good is it for me if Mary gave birth to the Son of God 1400 years ago and I don't give birth to God's son in my person and ...my culture and my times? We are all meant to be mothers of God. God is always needing to be born. Let us again bring the unconditional love of God into the world, here and now. Happy Christmas to all. :)

07.01.2022 It has been a tough year so far. Some of our community are finding Remote Learning 2.0 pretty difficult. We hope this brings a smile to your face. Jill Lawrence, our Performing Arts Learning Leader, with the generous help of her son Ben, has prepared a music video for our community. This features an original song written and performed by Ben, called Distant, but Still Together. Thank sincerely to Jill and Ben, who was College Captain in 2018, for their impressive work. Thanks also to the staff and students who also contributed. While we are distant - but still together - please remember: we’re here for you. Hang in there!

07.01.2022 Marist-Sion College is proud to support RUOK? Day. The aim of RUOK? Day is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with anyone who may be struggling with life. Here's some tips on how you can support the young people in your life: Be aware of certain behaviours and signs that can indicate a young person might be struggling. The first thing to look out for is changes in behaviour. When people feel low, they ...often: Withdraw from their friends or their family Lash out at people and get angry or upset really easily, including towards the people they care about Cry or become emotional Lose interest in activities and things they usually love Have changed sleeping patterns. They might be sleeping all the time, not sleeping much at all, or sleeping at strange hours (such as in the middle of the day) Have a changed appetite. They could be eating more than usual, or less. R U OK? has 4 Conversation Steps to help navigate a conversation when someone says, No, I’m not OK. These steps are: 1. Ask 2. Listen 3. Encourage action 4. Check in Useful contacts when a young person is not OK: College’s Wellbeing Team GP or psychologist Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800 Lifeline on 13 11 14 Dial 000 if someone’s life is in imminent danger
