25.01.2022 - " " Many ratepayers have contacted me seeking clarification on the announcement that Council is now debt free. Mayor Kremastos has stated that having repaid Council's debt, we no longer have any borrowings and hence the Council is saving a significant interest bill for ratepayers.... This is exactly the situation and the reason why I supported the strategy when it came to Council in 2016. Unfortunately it is being claimed that this was only possible because of the fiscal management by the current Council - I need to publicly acknowledge that the funds used to repay these debts came from cash and investments of $20 million built up by the previous "Bill Shannon lead Council". The ability of the Kremastos Council to make this decision was only possible because of the efforts of the previous Council. It should be noted that the early repayment of the Queensland Treasury Corporation loan required the payment of a penalty of $3.6 million in fees upfront. While this saved the Council approximately $1.15 million in interest per annum, it was not without considerable cost. CCRC can rightly claim that we are currently debt free but let us also give credit where it is due. 23.01.2022 My response to the Mayor's full-page advertisement in the March 21 edition of The Innisfail Advocate. Bring integrity and honesty back to the Cassowary Coast Regional Council. 22.01.2022 Meals on Wheels has been a fantastic organisation and an integral part of the Cassowary Coast community. State and Federal Governments are encouraging families to keep their elderly relatives at home instead of an aged care facility. Meals on Wheels help out by providing wholesome meals and a friendly chat but they can always do with more volunteers. My wife Marsha has been a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for 10 years and I have been helping out for a number of years as w...ell. I have also been part of the Executive for the last 2 years, taking on the role of President last year. Authorised Mark Nolan CCRC Mayoral Candidate 100 River Avenue, Innisfail 0409 485 662

20.01.2022 A major concern for all of our ratepayers and residents has been the seemingly top heavy organisation that is Cassowary Coast Regional Council. A priority of mine (if successful in the upcoming election) will be to look closely at the organisational structure of our local government authority. This is a matter of real and ongoing concern for our whole community. The widespread belief is that the current council is excessively top-heavy..., too focused on self-promotion and social media and not working hard to build a sustainable community. If, as I believe, there is too many senior staff sitting in head office, then their salaries and on-costs are contributing to our very high level of rates and depriving the community of important services. If elected, I will be seeking to work closely with all elected councillors and asking them to support me and initiate . I will be looking to put in place a clear plan for organisational review that ensures that CCRC becomes a more efficient, effective and relevant organisation that best meets the needs of our community. 20.01.2022 I strongly believe that local government authorities need to set budgets and live within their means. I also recognise that local government authorities do not get every decision correct every time.... We must always allow for a Council to review past decisions and re-consider better outcomes especially where common-sense and the interests of ratepayers are involved. If elected mayor I will certainly be looking to deal with the problem of inadequate shade at the Mission Beach Aquatic Centre. In Far North Queensland, where the rates of skin cancer are amongst the highest in the country, we must do everything we can to protect our children. Our duty of care demands it. Surely this is a no-brainer Written and Authorised by: Mark Nolan (CCRC Mayoral Candidate) 100 River Avenue, Innisfail 4860 0409 485 662

18.01.2022 Should any Residents find themselves in isolation you can still vote via TELEPHONE voting. The number to call is: 1300 912 782.

17.01.2022 Can we consider being a little aspirational: As a candidate who is totally self-funded (and therefore cannot be accused of owing any favours to any one) I am very grateful for those who read and share my FB posts. I will continue to share my hopes and thoughts with you regularly. Position Statement: I would like to make it clear that if elected Mayor a major goal of mine would be to win back the council’s good reputation as an organisation. Cassowary Coast Regional Council ne...ed to re-establish itself as high performing organisation focused on serving the community and should be seen as an employer of choice. To achieve success with this goal, it will require strong clear leadership of an organisation that is committed to operate with honesty and integrity and transparency. These are virtues that must come from the top of an organisation and in my view have been sadly lacking in recent times. I believe that I have the strength and vision that is needed to win back the faith and trust of the Cassowary Coast region. 11.01.2022 As a candidate for the mayoral position of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council I am very aware that there are and will be matters that come before the Council that are contentious and difficult to solve. Right at the top of the list will be a need to solve the ongoing issues surrounding the Post Hinchinbrook development. This is a problem that goes back many years, involves all levels of government, many Federal Government and State Govern...Continue reading
