16.01.2022 Freshly cracked - two brand new episodes of Talking Tourism recorded at last week’s Tasmanian Tourism Conference! In our first episode of Talking Tourism after... Tasmania's borders have re-opened to COVID-Safe States, Rachel Williams sits down with the Tom Wootton & Chris Griffin, the Chief Executive's of Tasmania's Northern and North-West Regional Tourism Organisations. Tom and Chris share their thoughts on Tasmania's tourism recovery out of the COVID, their priorities for drive journeys and growing Tasmania's agritourism potential. Episode 2 features Sara Barnes outlining her concept of Experiential Tourism. Sara and her husband, James, are building a business based on the principle of experiential travel - personalised, intimate experiences where visitors feel genuinely connected with places, products and people. Their tour business, Experiential Tasmania, takes visitors behind the scenes with some of the our leading producers - meeting the makers, sampling the producer and visiting sites not usually available to the general visitor. Sara's vision is shaped by her background working as a high end tour guide in Tasmania, and interstate, and with uber-premium lifestyle brand, Abercrombie & Kent. Sara also outlines her aspirations for Tasmania as an experiential tourism, and the opportunities for start-up businesses in a post-COVID visitor market. Listen to both episodes - and all 65 Talking Tourism episodes - directly off the website here: https://tict.com.au/talking-tourism/ Or search for Talking Tourism wherever you find your podcasts.

I’ve been immersed in these industries at different times as an employee, an employer, a contractor, and a volunteer. I know there are many things I haven’t learned and don’t yet know. It seems the same debate...Continue reading

08.01.2022 Introducing the Tassie Tourism Masterclass! We're making some of the best and brightest in our tourism network available to you - Online and at No Cost. Start...ing June 5 and running for 12-weeks over winter - the Tassie Tourism Masterclass is an online and interactive learning program where tourism operators and professionals across Tasmania can access insights and advice from our leading tourism consultants and gurus on the fundamentals of good Tassie tourism. Each week will feature a new relevant and practical module - on the essentials of running strong and resilient Tassie tourism businesses. How will it work? 12 Weeks - 12 Modules including business planning and SME financials, and tips on marketing and making your tourism business more sustainable, and the outlook for tourism distribution and sales. Every Friday afternoon we'll launch on our website a fresh new online 45 minute presentation on that week's topic, that you can watch in your own time when it suits you. This presentation will feature a well-known Tasmanian tourism or business specialist taking you through the essentials every tourism operator should consider for that week's topic. Through the proceeding week, we'll run two interactive live online sessions focussing on some of the key take-outs from that week's theme, and sharing experiences and insights. These will also be led by our specialists. At the end of the week you'll have the opportunity to submit to our team for review and feedback a short 'Business Action Plan' on practical things you've learned from the week to implement in your own tourism business. You can choose to follow the full 12-weeks, or opt in to speakers and presentations relevant to your circumstances and priorities. The Tassie Tourism Masterclass is open to all industry stakeholders and is free, thanks to support from the Tasmanian Government through the Department of State Growth. This initiative is all for our Tasmanian SME tourism operators with small turn-overs, along with Tasmanians new to the tourism industry. It is designed to be relevant and practical for small accommodation, tour, transport and attraction operators wanting to boost their tourism skills for the recovery ahead. Stay tuned for details of Week 1's Program next week - and pencil in 5 June for the start!

06.01.2022 RE-OPENING Pinctada Kitchen One of the best things about the kitchen at home, is the kitchen bench. Somewhere to plonk after a long day. Somewhere to relax and catch up with the world. Somewhere to refuel... So, except that our kitchen bench fronts one of Devonport's most open kitchens. And it's not your mum or your siblings on the other side of the bench; it's a couple of the town's most driven and passionate foodies, swapping ideas and sampling the showcase of glorious prod...uce surrounding us. If you love food, like truly LOVE it, you need to come and see what's going on stashed behind the big carpark and old library between now and October. Pinctada is ready to reopen. We're taking it slow and opening Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for lunch, from 11.30am til 4pm in the afternoon, as of Wednesday July 1st.
