25.01.2022 If you’ve received a City of Perth ballot paper, you have a unique opportunity to reshape our city. Please fill it out and post it back as soon as you can. Remember, we deserve a fresh start from a full-time, independent Lord Mayor who owes favours to no one. No links to politics, big business or property developers. As a long-term city resident, I will always have your best interests at heart.

24.01.2022 **HELP THE HOMELESS** PLEASE SHARE AND DONATE** OK Perth, it’s over to you. We have an empty backpackers’ hostel in East Perth. We have an agreement to use it to provide shelter for the homeless. ... What we need now is donations to sign the lease and pay the rent. With 1,000 people sleeping rough on our streets, this is a matter of urgency. The team at Street Friends and myself are determined to have this facility up and running within a few weeks. Let’s do this, for the sake of those sleeping rough every night. https://gf.me/u/y2fh46

24.01.2022 This is a good start but I wouldn’t have thought Wednesday lunchtime was the ideal time. I want to bring the Cultural Centre alive with twilight and weekend markets, events and entertainment. And the parking? Look at all the conditions attached. Let’s make it free, to really encourage people into the city.

24.01.2022 Thanks for all the messages and feedback re: the Lord Mayoral debate on Flashpoint. My big idea for the City of Perth? Pretty simple really... (watch the video)

22.01.2022 **THANK YOU** As I chow down on a democracy sausage and meet the last remaining voters, I just want to say THANK YOU to every single person who has been with me on this incredible ride over the past 4 months. I’ve read every message, replied to every query, answered every phone call and have absolutely loved listening to what you want to make our city better. ... Win or lose tonight, this has been the most incredible experience of my life and I am deeply moved by the level of support and the outpouring of kindness and goodwill. Without a big budget or the top end of town behind me, I’m a fiercely independent city resident who strongly believes in a properly functioning council and who genuinely wants to make a difference to his community. I’m glad that that resonated with so many of you. Whatever the outcome, I sincerely hope that Perth is the winner tonight and please know that I will be forever grateful for your support. Thank you.

20.01.2022 Meeting with some young voters tonight, keen to have their say on the future of our city. They love my plans for a cleaner, greener, more vibrant Perth and a council free of factions and division. Thanks for the great chat.

19.01.2022 There has been a lot of talk today about campaign expenditure and gifts - one candidate declaring almost $100,000 in gifts, another candidate with loads of free media exposure. Let me put this on the record: I have no gifts to declare, no conflicts and no vested interests. I am running a grassroots, self-funded campaign on the smell of an oily rag, as a city resident wanting to make a difference to his community. The City of Perth has been desperately lacking in independent... leadership. If elected, I will owe favours to no one. The only people I will represent are the residents, ratepayers and business owners. No donations, no gifts, no conflicts. That’s what City of Perth residents and ratepayers deserve.

18.01.2022 We interrupt campaigning for a birthday lunch with two of my favourite humans and biggest supporters - one of my 3 sisters and my Mum. Thank you for all the messages. In lieu of presents, this year I’m accepting votes.

18.01.2022 For all the big ideas, sometimes it’s the small stuff that counts. I was asked the first thing I would do, if elected Lord Mayor...

18.01.2022 Morning brew and so much support from the awesome crew at Stella Coffee House on Adelaide Tce.

17.01.2022 City of Perth electors, after 2.5 years with no City council, electing the right mayor is a big and important decision. Please take the opportunity to vote and have your say. A vote for me is a vote for:... Independence Integrity Vision Full-time commitment See more

16.01.2022 Nominations have closed. There are 7 candidates to be Perth’s next Lord Mayor. I have just attended the ballot paper draw at Council House. Using the time-honoured traditions of a cardboard box and opaque balls containing 7 names, this is the order the candidates have been drawn to appear on the ballot paper.... I’m happy with the outcome and hoping for a similar result on October 17.

16.01.2022 I’ve spent the past few months looking at the city from all angles and today, I took it to another level - 1,500 feet off the ground to be precise. Perth, you look great from up here, but I want to make you even better! Big thanks to the Royal Aero Club for letting me take part in the pre-dawn flight, marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

14.01.2022 If I’m elected Lord Mayor, I pledge to do everything I can to end homelessness in the City of Perth. It will be my number one priority.

14.01.2022 Sorry about the video quality. I put this on my Insta story, then thought I should share it here. Look what happens when you provide good, clean, family fun in the heart of Northbridge - hundreds of families flock here from far and wide. Let’s have a city with festivals, events and performances all year round and breathe life back into Perth. ... Bravo, Awesome Arts Festival.

14.01.2022 The way to fix homelessness? More housing. We need it urgently. The fact that 1,000 people are sleeping rough each night is a sad indictment on our city. Thanks to City Rotary for the opportunity to outline my homelessness plans - and it was great to catch up with some of these legends who work tirelessly at the coal face every day, to make the lives of those sleeping rough a little brighter.

13.01.2022 Behind the scenes at the Lord Mayoral TV debate, 7.30 tonight on Channel 7.

13.01.2022 ELECTION DAY - LAST CHANCE TO VOTE Council House (27 St Georges Tce) is open from 8am - 6pm. Please drop any last minute ballot papers in the box in the foyer. ... If you’ve lost or can’t find your ballot paper, they’ll even replace it. How good is democracy?! See more

12.01.2022 VOTING REMINDER: Time is running out to elect the next Lord Mayor and councillors for the City of Perth. If you have a ballot paper, you are among the lucky few who can help shape the future of our city, so please vote. If you want to POST your ballot paper back (pic 1), then please do it by THIS FRIDAY, October 9, to avoid Australia Post delays. ... If you want to HAND DELIVER your ballot paper (pic 2), you can do so by dropping it in the ballot box in the lobby at Council House on St Georges Tce, on or before October 17. And remember, voting for me (pic 3), is as simple as placing a tick in the box next to my name. Thank you

12.01.2022 Look what arrived in the mail! Voting is not as easy as it should be and I’m already receiving questions, so let me answer a few of them here: - For the Lord Mayor election, detach the ballot paper and put a tick next to my name. Don’t make any other marks on the ballot paper. Simple. ... - For the councillor election, detach the ballot paper and put a tick next to the names of UP TO 8 people. You can tick anywhere between 1 and 8 names, or if you wish, you can ignore this ballot paper and only vote for the mayor. - So, you will have either one or two ballot papers which then need to be placed inside the BALLOT PAPER ENVELOPE. This envelope must then be SIGNED AND DATED for your vote to count. - Finally, place the ballot paper envelope inside the reply paid envelope (addressed to the returning officer) and put it into an Australia Post mail box. Confused? Any questions, please feel free to contact me. And please don’t be deterred. It’s so important that you make your vote count.

11.01.2022 Win, lose or draw, there was always going to be champagne! What an extraordinary experience these past 4 months have been. I have met the most amazing people, learned so much and felt so connected to this wonderful city that I live in. ... The result didn’t go my way and in hindsight, the battler campaign on a shoestring budget was never really going to be able to compete. But I loved every minute and wouldn’t change a thing. Thank you to every single person I met during the campaign - from the residents to the business owners, especially the not-for-profit sector and those experiencing homelessness. You all inspire and motivate me. To the 716 voters who placed a tick next to my name, thank you. To my band of wonderful friends and family who rode the wave with me and showered me with support, thank you. And to all of you following this page and reading this post - most of you (frustratingly) couldn’t vote, but your messages and support spurred me on every day. Congratulations to Basil Zempilas and to all those elected to council. I look forward to you representing us and improving our city. I’m going to take a break and consider what’s next. Any ideas?

10.01.2022 City of Perth voters, ballot papers will hit letter boxes from today. It’s never been more important that you vote and help shape the future of our city. It’s as easy as placing one tick next to candidate number one, Mark Gibson ... I’m the best choice because I’m: A long- term city resident 100% independent 100% committed to the role As Lord Mayor, I will: Clean up the city Make it safer and more vibrant Make finding accommodation for the homeless a top priority Restore trust and confidence in a properly-functioning council Always put the residents and ratepayers first

09.01.2022 HOMELESSNESS ANNOUNCEMENT: At today’s Shelter WA End Homelessness Forum, I revealed that I’ve been able to secure an agreement with the owners of a backpackers’ hostel in East Perth, to use it as transitional accommodation for the homeless. We have been offered discounted rent and a two year lease. Still, we will be calling on community help, so stay tuned for a fundraising blitz!... The hope is that 50 rough sleepers will have a roof over their heads, medical and other facilities by the end of October. Massive thanks to Sepo Young from Street Friends WA for driving this with me. Sepo is a mental health nurse who will bring her expertise to this facility. It’s only one small step, but it’s an insight into the drive and commitment I have to ending homelessness in the City of Perth.

09.01.2022 What a day! A massive THANK YOU to the 50 volunteers who walked the entire City of Perth, from East Perth to Nedlands and everywhere in between. Thanks to the residents too for the chats and the huge show of support. ... No big budgets and no big marketing firms, just a grassroots campaign to make a real difference to the city I live in and love. City of Perth electors, you’ll receive your ballot papers in just over a week. Remember, you’re in a unique position to have your say and to shape the future of our city.

09.01.2022 Thanks to ABC News, who gave me 100 words to explain why I should be Perth’s next Lord Mayor. (If you’re an eligible voter, don’t forget to fill out your ballot paper, put a tick next to my name and take the signed envelope down to Council House by 6pm this Saturday, 17 October)

08.01.2022 The Electoral Commission tells me more than 2,300 votes have been sent in so far. With 2 weeks to go, please get those ballot papers filled out and returned as soon as possible. It’s as easy as sending them back in the reply paid envelope. Funny thing is, my ballot paper seemed to only have one candidate to choose from.

06.01.2022 It was so good to catch up with the team at Anglicare WA and to know that we’re on the same page when it comes to tackling homelessness. We urgently need more housing and, if I’m elected this weekend, it’s something I will passionately push for. Thanks to CEO Mark and youth worker Linley, whose Street Connect bus plays a vital role in helping vulnerable 15-25 year olds.

05.01.2022 Gotta love this comment on Twitter

05.01.2022 Thanks to the Property Council and Urbis for the opportunity to outline my vision for Perth at today’s Lord Mayoral Forum. It was a great response from a really engaged audience.

04.01.2022 With a cafe on James St in Northbridge, Chet sees our homelessness crisis up close every day. Chet believes that I’m the best mayoral candidate when it comes to practical plans to help the homeless and to make our streets cleaner and safer. Thanks for the support, Chet.

04.01.2022 Mark’s mob! Gibbo’s gang! Whatever you call them, these amazing volunteers are right across the entire City of Perth today. Look out for them, say hello and vote 1 Mark Gibson for Lord Mayor!
