20.01.2022 Did you know that there are over 56 thousand registered charities in Australia and OCAGI is the ONLY one that represents oesophageal cancer? Did you also know that over 85% of cases are diagnosed terminal with a five-year survival rate of less than 10%? Our mission is three-fold. The first is to save lives by raising awareness of the often-ignored symptoms of heartburn and indigestion. Secondly to provide support for those diagnosed and their loved ones and last but by no mea...ns least to fund target research into early diagnosis and cure. With no government funding this can only be achieved with the financial support of businesses and the broader community. What can you do? Host a morning tea Golf days Movie nights Do a walk Attend our fundraising events when possible Make a donation via our website Take up the $5 challenge . 19.01.2022 It was with great pride that we were chosen to be the recipients of The George Lundy Inaugural Charity Fundraiser today. We learnt a lot about the kind and generous human that George was, and how loved he was by both his natural family and his Pagewood Soccer Club Football family. His dedication to the club has left a legacy behind by the way of a renaming of the fields to the George Lundy Sporting Fields. Rest In Peace and Pride George 14-05 2020 Oesophageal Cancer takes another life too soon

19.01.2022 OCAGI has some amazing supporters that do so much to spread awareness of Oesophageal Cancer. Yesterday OCAGI was humbled to be the charity of choice for the inaugural Lunch & Learn headed by Louise Sparkes Howarth founder of Pineapple Marketing & Promotions which was held at Upstairs @ Fred’s in Camden. Louise so kindly presented a cheque for $260 to our founding member Franc - Events Coordinator on behalf of OCAGI. Pineapple Marketing & Promotions we thank you for all you do in supporting OCAGI There’s No Such Thing as Harmless Heartburn

18.01.2022 During this time of uncertainty we have chosen to cancel all of our fundraising events for 2020 and suspend our research and awareness campaigns to 2021. Although we believe strongly in what we are achieving at OCAGI there comes a time when decisions have to made based on the situation of both the business and broader communities. However, there is something you can do that cost you no more than a few clicks on your keyboard, May 31st is Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Day and YOU have the ability help us raise awareness by simply adding the OCAGI frame to your profile picture. If you want to go the extra mile then it would be fantastic if you would like, share and comment on this post. Thank you so much

16.01.2022 Cycling for a cause! This coming Saturday Louise McCallum will cycle 200 klms from the Northern Beaches to Nelson Bay. After receiving the devastating news of her dad being diagnosed with Stage 4 Oesophageal Cancer. Please get behind Louise and show her your support and encouragement for the ride. Louise will be followed by her dad in the support vehicle. Any donation be it large or small will be greatly appreciated GoFundMe please follow the link below Louise McCallum ...Support me in my quest to show the power of the mind and its ability to overcome hardship. We have a choice in how we react to adversity - we can choose to be strong even when we’re perceived to be weak. This ones for you Dad - your positivity with all you’ve been dealt this year is truly admirable, and I know the example you’ve set is what will get me through this 200kms ride (unprepared). Love you always. http://gf.me/u/yd9xs2/

16.01.2022 Polly & Pena would like to thank BCRG Camden for allowing us to present at the breakfast meeting this morning. It was very exciting for us to share with the group some milestone achievements from our PHD students. And although fundraising has been somewhat non existent due to COVID we are still spreading the word by creating awareness about the sometimes dismissive symptoms of heartburn and indigestion. Visit www.ocagi.org for more information. Remember "There's no such thing as harmless heartburn"

16.01.2022 Heartburn and reflux can be precursors to Oesophageal Cancer. For more information please visit www.ocagi.org

16.01.2022 As we head towards Oesphageal Cancer Awareness Day on May 31st we ask for you to please use the OCAGI frame for a week and leave us a Purple Heart in the comments of this post with your postcode. Feel free to include an in memory of or thankful survivor there too. There’s no such thing as harmless heartburn!

15.01.2022 OCAGI is so humbled and grateful to Alex Hawkins Peachey Wick’d Candles for her support and selecting our charity to partner with her business on an exclusive range of candles which you can purchase on her website We cannot thank Alex enough! 25% of all sales will go back to OCAGI

15.01.2022 OCAGI would like to thank Good Morning Macarthur's team Brian Laul and Frank for showcasing OCAGI in it's "Flashback" segment on this video. With cinema's being closed due to the current pandemic and funding drying up our most successful campaign yet has come to a grinding halt! With Oesophageal Cancer Awareness day coming up this Sunday May 31st it is a timely reminder to us all especially in these unrepresented times that heartburn and indigestion could be precursors to something much more sinister. PLEASE if you are suffering with heartburn & indigestion consult a medical practitioner for further testing. "There's no such thing as harmless heartburn" Stay safe everyone

12.01.2022 Some fantastic news from our University Funding. See the following Hi, hope everyone is well during these unusual times. We are pleased to announce the research supported by OCAGI has been accepted and published in the very prestigious Journal of Clinical Medicine. This project involved a huge team of researchers, clinicians, and statisticians across Sydney and took over 4 years to collect, compile and analysis the data! However, without the support of OCAGI all this woul...dn’t be possible, so a HUGE THANK YOU from WSU and the GI Motility research Team!! Feel free to read it and comment! Otherwise, in a nutshell, we found a very unique microbiota population associated with oesophageal adenocarcinoma, that hasn't been identifed previously. This would directly help with the development of our breath screening test, in addition, it also revealed possible links between oesophageal cancer and oral health that may contribute towards the mechanisms driving cancer development. https://www.mdpi.com/2077-0383/9/7/2162 See more

10.01.2022 In his lifetime Mark Grundy wasn’t a sports star, he wasn’t a movie star, in fact he wasn’t famous at all. He was simply a man who devoted his life to his family his friends and his community. This day 8 years ago, Mark Grundy lost a short yet fierce battle with Oesophageal Cancer and it was on this day he became a star. Mark’s passing led to the creation of OCAGI. A beacon of light that began to shine for those who were diagnosed with this dreaded cancer and their loved o...nes. A ray of hope that through targeted research early diagnostic testing tools will mean far less terminal diagnosis. A gift of awareness that could save thousands of lives just by knowing that ‘There’s no such thing as harmless heartburn’. Today, May 31st, is Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Day. A day when an ordinary man became a star. So please comment with a star and a postcode below to remember those that have passed, those that have been affected and to give hope for a cure. See more

10.01.2022 Marathon swimmer Suzie Marony recently lost her mum to oesphageal cancer. Suzie was extremely close to her mum and the loss has hit her hard. However, in her usual way Suzie has found an opportunity to try and help make a difference to others being diagnosed and has generously donated the $2000 she received for the article to OCAGI. These funds will be put towards our Education Partnership with Western Sydney University. Let’s take a moment to thank Suzie and show our support to all of the people that are battling oesophageal cancer or have lost love ones. OCAGI will continue to work for you all to create awareness and fund targeted research into this dreaded cancer
