25.01.2022 "If we could put tai chi as a pill everybody would take it. But unfortunately you actually have to practice it to have an effect, " says Harvard Medical School geriatric researcher, Professor Lew Lipsitz. He calls tai chi one of the most exciting interventions because it benefits both balance and mobility. It aids the muscular system, coordination, equilibrium, and the brain. Harvard Medical School is doing lots of research into tai chi. In 2010, researchers at the institute ran a 12-week intervention, in which seniors practised Tai chi twice a week. At the end of the trial, the investigators compared balance and mobility of those who did Tai chi to seniors who just sat in on the classes. And lo and behold, Tai chi not only their improved gait and balance but improved their overall functional ability, said Prof Lipsitz.

11.01.2022 This week I received a letter from a 95 year old lady who has been learning tai chi with me since 2016. This is why I teach tai chi! It is never too late to try tai chi, in fact you get better at it with age! Heres the text of the letter - in case its difficult to read in the image. (Personal details are redacted for privacy.) 8 September 2020... Dear Marlene, When you introduced "Tai chi" to xxx, I was so excited because it was something I had wanted to do but was too afraid to join a group. So this was the opportunity to find out all about it. I was not disappointed, instead I realised soon after joining just how good it was for me. My aim is to be able to look after myself for as long as possible and after tai chi I have been able to achieve this. I try to apply what I learn in class to my everyday routine. I make sure I am ready before I take a step and try to remember my posture. Also the words "think tall" is constantly in my mind. I owe my total well-being to Tai chi and because of this I look forward to attend the class each week. Thank you Marlene for all your caring and kindness. Yours sincerely, Elia XXX
