27.01.2022 Marlie Draught Horse Stud was established in 1973 in Putty NSW by Pat and Sid Samuel. As a foundation member of the Australian Draught Horse Stud Book Society, Sid Samuel has spent numerous years breeding, competing and judging all around Australia. Together in 1982, Pat and Sid, imported the first American Belgian Stallion, Wondersprings Rubis Jim as an 18 month old Colt from Cortland N.Y State USA where he was the feature horse of the New York Sale. This added to the curren...t gene pool of horses available in Australia and Sid enjoyed great success from the Belgian influence. In 1984, Pat and Sid imported a Suffolk Punch Mare from England to add their Suffolk Punch gene pool, Laurel Annabel who at the time was the biggest horse to be imported by air. In 1983, Pat and Sid Samuel relocated the Stud to Exeter NSW where it is located still to this day. The influence of the Belgian and Suffolk Punch horses has been a major factor in the success of the stud’s horses in both the show ring and in a working environment. Sid Samuel’s passion for Draught Horses has rubbed off on his Grandson Aleks Berzins, who now runs the Stud with his wife Karina. Still breeding horses from the Suffolk and Belgian lines dating back to the original imports, Aleks is passionate about farming with horses and preserving the Australian Draught Horse breed. With over 40 horses currently on the Stud, Marlie Draught Horse Stud aims to breed superior working horses bred to the Australian Draught Horse Standard. You will still see our horses working on the farm and competing in numerous shows and field days.

06.09.2021 Our Oat Harvest December 2021. Over a few days we managed the massive task of cutting our oats with the Sunshine Reaper and Binder. The horses used, Hank, Will and Clyde, managed to eat on the job at times and were well rewarded with freshly cut oats. It was a very satisfying task and a great reminder of what a good season can do!

02.09.2021 Here we go again.. Will certainly seems impressed.

18.08.2021 Yesterday we harvested half of the oats. It was our best season we have ever had. The crop was extremely thick and the paddock was beaming with butterflies. With most traditional farming, there was plenty of sweat, breakages and big rewards. Our faithful horses used were Hank, Will and Clyde. Today we tackle the second half!

04.08.2021 Our chicken whisperer. Chelsea loves her chickens. Here we have Redgie going on a ride on Tinkerbell.
