17.01.2022 Can you help? We are calling on donations for a worthy local charity - Soul Cafe! They give out between 80-100 packs of hygiene products a week ie. toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, deodorant, soap etc and their shelves are bare. For the month of October we will have a box at Reception to collect donations (travel size is preferable)... Please consider adding a product or two to your trolley when next out shopping and bring it to Maroba when you next visit. 10.11.2021 Brief Coronavirus Update Sunday 30 January 2022. Dear Friends and family, I can report that all eligible residents in the Manor and Lodge , were attended today between 9am and 12midday for PCR testing.... Janet Wright our Clinical Care Partner attended the site to support the testing process, so as to allow our rostered RNs to carry on with their normal work demands. We hope the turnaround in test results will be prompt, as I’m sure everyone is as keen as I am to see those results. All residents continue to be monitored closely for symptoms and the RN will report directly to families if there is any deterioration observed. Those residents that are not specifically confined to their rooms are able to move about their suburb and attached outdoor areas whilst enjoying many of their usual routines in a Covid safe way. Also those residents who have always enjoyed an independent walk around the grounds have continued to do so without impacting any other residents. Like you, we all look forward to the day we can reopen every suburb in the facility for completely free movement and re-engagement with our Maroba community. I hope that you had an opportunity to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air today as we fast approach the end of January, trusting that the months ahead will be kinder to everyone. Sincerely Viv Allanson CEO

24.10.2021 Brief Coronavirus Update for today. Emailed to families this afternoon. Dear families and friends... I am very pleased to provide the good news that there are no new Covid positive cases amongst our residents or staff. All families of those residents who are experiencing a covid infection have been contacted for their daily update. There are no reports of anyone with cold and flu symptoms so far today. We will continue to monitor everyone as is our regular practise. All residents and staff on site on Sunday will be provided a PCR test to ascertain the Covid status of everyone to ensure the Rapid Antigen testing and resident wellbeing checks have not missed anyone. We hope this will bring us a step closer to the end of the outbreak at Maroba as we await further instruction from our Public Health Unit. I do hope you have a pleasant Saturday night and get a chance to cheer Ash Barty on in the Australian open. She certainly has represented us well so far. Take care Sincerely Viv Allanson CEO

18.09.2021 Thank you for your support, Joy! Newcastle Herald - 24 January 2022. Letter to the Editor... 'Keep beating aged care drum ONCE again Viv Allanson has tried to bring attention to the public regarding the difficulties being experienced by the aged care industry and those dedicated staff who under difficult circumstances provide care for our elderly citizens ('Aged care is in crisis but leaders don't care', Opinion 15/1). The media has quite rightly been very vocal in bringing the faults in the system to the public attention but seem to have baulked at the same persistence to ensure the government follows through with solutions to improve the problems. The silence is deafening. Ms Allanson has been a passionate and persistent advocate for the aged care industry for many years, and has tried to give a voice to the providers and staff who feel forgotten. Please support her and the industry by continuing to ask the government when their actions will start to overcome the deplorable state of the care afforded our aged citizens.'
