21.01.2022 So what's in the draft of the same-sex marriage bill? This.... The bill would also strengthen and retain protection for religious ministers refusing to marry same-sex couples, while non-religious celebrants would be allowed to refuse to marry a couple on "conscientious" grounds. So discrimination would still continue... essentially.

An analysis by Melbourne-based #LGBT activist, Tony Pitman, has revealed that the billion mark was crossed for the first time last month, when a number of Mexican states joined Columbia and legalised same-sex marriage.

19.01.2022 Oh dear..... Liberal senator says the freedom to discriminate for any or no reason including refusing to serve #gayweddings has to be defended and protected.
19.01.2022 This afternoon, as he introduced the #plebiscite bill, I listened as he double-downed on this rhetoric. The main concerns he seemed to have about the whole thing were regarding the feelings of the anti-equality side. He spoke of respecting everyones opinions. He spoke of how someones position on the debate is sincerely held and a matter of conscience, and that all sides should be respected. He said it is wrong to characterise people who oppose marriage equality as homophobic or hating homosexuals. He says it is profoundly disrespectful to do so. ....do you know what is profoundly disrespectful in my eyes? Introducing a bill that allows the majority to vote on the rights and relationships of a minority.

16.01.2022 The Australian Census is the latest admin bureau to accept that some folks dont fit the gender binary. The 2016 Census will allow people to specify their own gender by writing it in instead of simply marking male or female on the printed form, reports SBS. If completing the Census online however, youd need to call the Census Inquiry Service, request a login for the special online form and then select other when completing the question. SameSame.com.au

14.01.2022 [Blog] Robbie and Dave: The most important thing to us was that we were getting married on our terms, regardless of what the government has to say about it. We considered this to be a true marriage, no matter how long it takes to be legal. For us, we will always consider ourselves married from the 20th September 2016. #marriageequality

13.01.2022 [SOUTH AUSTRALIA] A pair of very important bills passed through the House of Assembly - the Relationship Register Bill, which not only allows state-wide recognition of same sex marriages (as well as those from outside of Australia), but also next-of-kin and adoption rights, and the Gender Amendment Bill, which essentially makes the process of changing a South Australian's gender as registered on their birth certificate 99% easier.

07.01.2022 [USA] Mississippi residents and businesses now have a federal judges okay to begin denying wedding services to same-sex couples based on their religious objections, beginning July 1. And thats just the beginning of what the so-called Hospitality States anti-LGBT law will do, from forcing women to wear skirts to restricting transgender students from using gender-appropriate bathrooms. One more federal hearing is all that stands in the way of the law taking effect next month.

07.01.2022 Is it marriage equality, or is it marriage discrimination? That is, does the Bill treat LGBTI-inclusive couples exactly the same as cisgender heterosexual couples, or will it introduce new special rights for civil celebrants and/or other wedding-related businesses to discriminate against us? If it is the former, it is genuine #marriageequality. If it is the latter, then it is something else, something lesser: marriage discrimination.... Unfortunately, based on multiple news reports it appears that the private members bill being drafted by Western Australian Liberal Senator Dean Smith will include new protections that provide celebrants with the right to refuse to officiate the ceremonies of LGBTI couples. Given religious celebrants already have this ability, presumably Senator Smiths Bill will extend this right to discriminate to (at least some) civil celebrants.
06.01.2022 Liberal senator Dean Smith has given a strong indication he will support a bill for a free parliamentary vote on same-sex marriage. "This is not a revolution inside the Coalition under the Howard government these issues were managed sensibly, people had an opportunity to put their concerns on the table, remedies were found"

05.01.2022 Same-sex couples will have one less hurdle to jump through when it comes to having their union recognised in the ACT, with new legislation being introduced to automatically register overseas partnerships. Attorney-General Gordon Ramsay said the new laws aimed to cut red tape for same-sex couples. "The amendments I am introducing to the Civil Unions Act will mean same-sex couples who were married, or entered into a civil union, outside the ACT will automatically have their relationship recognised under ACT law," he said
