25.01.2022 The Rear Commodore Sail has provided an update on the 2020 / 2021 Sailing Calendar on the MCYS website as well as an email to members - link below

25.01.2022 Wingara does it again! MYC/MCYS/SBSC Combined Long Distance Navigators’ Trophy - 40 miles around the south end of the Bay - Wingara 1st AMS and 1st PHS. Great result for the old girl, sailing 3 up! The challenge for the race is to decide which way to go - clockwise or the reverse. Wind and tide and boat speed have to be factored in - a great test of knowing your boat and working out where you will be on the course to best take advantage of, or avoid tidal flows. Great work to MCYS members and crew, Commodore John Hall Andrew Arblaster and Reg Angus.

25.01.2022 MCYS battle flags available for your boat, house, car, bike or as a sarong to wear around the house! Available at the MCYS store. Look forward to seeing them fly at the many visits to Mornington Yacht Club, Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, Queenscliff Harbour, Wyndham Harbour and Ocean Racing Club of Victoria Inc. (ORCV) events soon!

22.01.2022 AMENDMENT TO SI's - V 4 - 12.11.2020 Dear Skippers The latest version of the SI's for 2020 are now available on the MCYS website - https://mcys.com.au//20_21-sailing-instructions-V4-12.11.2 - The up to date version is V 4 - 12.11.2020... The latest amendment relates to the coordinates for the Lighthouse mark which were incorrect - apologies! The correct coordinates are: 38 20.323' S - 144 56.148'E - this is a yellow pole in the 4-5m depth contour, approx 1/2 NM north east of the disused McCrae lighthouse. NOTE - Be aware that the previous version of the SI's had the incorrect coordinates, so please make sure you update your courses and plotter etc! Please remember - be COVID safe - Social distancing 90% of the time (1.5m), and wear complying face-masks! FAIR SAILING! John Hall Commodore

21.01.2022 CHECKING BOATS - HIDDEN HARBOUR and FRONT MARINA Dear Members Sorry to be emailing again, but since my email this morning, we have had offers from two of our members to check on boats.... First, for Hidden Harbour, Steve Woodward has kindly offered to do a walk around all three arms when he is there to do a visual check on mooring lines, waterlines and keep an eye out for any obvious issues. Thanks Steve for offering to do this. For the area in the map below with the line drawn around, colloquially known as the "Front Marina" - Grant Chipperfield has kindly offered to do the same. Thanks Grant. I suggest that if your boat is in the Martha Cove Marina that you talk to John Jackman who may be contacted on the Marina number (03) 5987 0827 or 0418 599 977 or Marina Manager. Thanks to Steve and Chippa for your offer to help! Regards John Hall Commodore

20.01.2022 It was great this week to hear such a positive response from both MCYS and SBSC members regarding our continued discussions with SBSC on combining Friday Twilight races. Albeit currently SBSC committee prefers not to proceed, we are confident members from both clubs will drive this sensible outcome. Contacting your club's committee is the way to further this. In the interim, Race 1 of 7 MCYS Sport Phillip Marine Twilights starts tonight. First boat leaves at 5:29. Start times... below. Great forecast! All details available on the MCYS website https://mcys.com.au/sailing-information/

20.01.2022 I refer to previous posts regarding MCYS sailing with Safety Beach Sailing Club in the first 6 twilights. Two of our member's entries made pursuant to the suggestion by the SBSC Commodore previously quoted, namely that members could apply to sail in 6 races free of charge if they gave 48 hours' notice and provided Safety and Insurance declarations have been rejected by SBSC. No reason has been given as yet, though it has been requested. Accordingly, it will be business as usu...al and MCYS will run our own twilight races commencing Friday 6 November. For tomorrow night, we will do a declared 'extras' shakedown event for anyone who wants to participate in a coastal dash south to Dromana PM mark and return. Commencement times TBA. This will be an informal event, and the forecast looks to be somewhat inclement! Fair winds John Hall Commodore

08.01.2022 Good luck to Commodore John Hall and crew today!

08.01.2022 MCYS members active over the Australia Day Weekend! Many members and boats were seen out on the water as temperatures soared into the high 30’s over the weekend. Well I guess that is why we have boats! On the yacht racing front, Wingara (MY 47) had a big day out in the ORCV Coastal race winning on IRC and PHS. Sailing outside the heads and in the Bass Strait is very different from inside the bay! We saw Tuna schools busting up, Mutton Birds in their thousands, and experience...d large rolling swells from the south west/south east. It was great to be back in the ocean (no jet skis!). Back in the bay, Andrew McGrath took delivery of his new Sunfast 33 Lunprecedented (MY 3300) and then raced in the Geelong passage race in the two handed division just finishing in front of Grant Chipperfield sailing with Stephen Richardson in Joker on Tourer (MY 1250). Tonik and Crew (Tom and Karen Hoogenbosch and merry crew) had a night out at Docklands enjoying fine dining at Victoria Harbour! Many other members were out on the water - both power and sail - too many to name - post a pic of your long weekend celebrations - I am sure many were out on the water! See below Andy McGrath’s new rocket-ship Unprecedented MY 3300 dedicated to our hard working paramedics. Wingara (MY 47) crew - self, and members Reg Angus & Greg Sharman Joker on Tourer (MY 1259) at Mersey Yacht Club after the recent ORCV M2D. ToniK and Wingara in action!
