25.01.2022 We had a very special visitor yesterday! It was the one and only Easter bunny!! It all started with a little rumble in the tummy she said! So into our clinic she hopped feeling rather unwell! On further examination by our kind and thorough veterinary team for rather exotic animals, , we diagnosed that the cause of their tummy problems was in fact eating some Easter eggs!! Oh no!!! The Easter bunny has a very important day coming up and needed help fast to get her back... on the hop!! After some iv fluids, special medication and some great nursing by our veterinary team, the Easter bunny was feeling so much better that they were able to go home and prepare for their busy day coming up!! But before she left she paid us in full with some yummy Easter eggs and Easter chocolate rabbits!! Thank you Easter Bunny and no more eating your deliveries!! Chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats (and bunnies!!) Ingestion can result in significant illness. It contains a chemical called theobromine, as well as caffeine. Dogs and cats cannot metabolize theobromine and caffeine as well as people can. This makes them more sensitive to the chemicals’ effects. So be careful this weekend that your beloved pet does not eat any of those yummy treats the Easter bunny is going to deliver!! Have a safe and Hoppy Easter!!

16.01.2022 Eye Infections in Horses Eye infections and injuries are more common than you might think. Very frequently, horse owners go out to the paddock to see their horse’s eyes swollen, barely open, and tearing. It’s nothing to take lightly! You must be proactive from the beginning to ensure the injury or infection is on the road to recovery. ... Signs of Eye Trauma Keep a lookout for the following symptoms. It is advisable to contact your vet immediately if you notice any of these. Holding the lid shut Swollen Pus or excessive tears when blinking Discharge streaming down his face Lid is torn Eyeball is discolored or cloudy Surrounding tissues are red and inflamed Abnormal growth/tumor Call the vet: If you notice any abnormalities in your horse’s eye(s) don’t delay in calling the vet out. Sometimes self-diagnosing and treating the eye yourself can make matters worse. Time is of the essence. The vet will be able to identify common eye problems, such as conjunctivitis, Corneal Ulcers, cuts , tumors, or allergic reactions. Healing: Always follow your vet’s recommendations. It is important to carefully observe your horse over the next few days, weeks to follow. Regular updates are required as soon as every 2-3 days after the commencement of any treatment. This is important to identify any sudden changes to the eye during the treatment. Regular photo updates are also beneficial for the vet to monitor the eye. Make sure to apply the medicine as directed and for the whole course of the treatment. Eye injuries and infections can mean serious trouble. Don’t delay!

We value our staff and feel that it is important that clients behave in an acceptable manner towards them. Maryborough Veterinary Surgery operates a zero tolerance policy with regard to violence, abuse and demanding behaviour.... This practice will not tolerate unacceptable behaviour e.g. clients swearing at staff, shouting or being aggressive. Violence in this context includes actual or threatened physical violence or verbal abuse. Our Veterinary staff are here to help you in the best way we can. Thank you.
03.01.2022 To all our valued clients: Repeat Prescription Medication As long as your pet is not requiring a re-examination, please ring the clinic to order all repeat medication. Our vet nurse’s will inform the Veterinarian who will then authorize the prescription of the medication.... The vet nurse will confirm with you if the medication is still working and what dose are you giving and if your pet’s condition has improved with this medication. This is just to ascertain whether the medication is working as expected or whether a revisit should be made sooner than previously thought. Once your records have been double checked by the vet we can give you a repeat prescription. Most medications we have in stock, so they can be supplied straight away once the prescription has be authorised. However, in cases of large volumes or unusual medications, we may need to place a special order. Therefore we require 24 hours notice to prepare prescription, allowing the Veterinarian time to authorize the prescription, and ensure stock is available so as to avoid disappointment. Use of prescription drugs Many drugs have legal restrictions on their use and can only be dispensed under certain conditions, and must be given or applied correctly. If you have any concerns about your ability to treat your animal at home with a particular medication please do not hesitate to discuss this with us.
