18.01.2022 In December, outside each Hospice patient's room, is their own individual and lit wooden Christmas tree, made by one of our clever volunteers, Russell. There are also 4 at the front of the Hospice near the Loving Tree. Through each window these gorgeous trees twinkle away gently all night.

17.01.2022 It was a beautiful morning in the garden today, where we arranged a special continental breakfast for a patient and his family, to celebrate his daughter's birthday. With flowers for the birthday girl, a bottle of bubbly and a selection of breakfast/brunch treats, this family were able to share some special time together.

17.01.2022 Merry Christmas to everyone - hoping you celebrate a special Christmas filled with kindness, love and friendship. We know how very emotional Christmas can be when we are missing loved ones. There's a hole where that special person should be, and the festive season doesn't feel festive at all. Everyone has different ways of coping. Be gentle with yourself, and celebrate Christmas in any way that feels right for you and your family. We hope you are surrounded with love and support at Christmas, and always.

17.01.2022 How adorable does Cosi look in our Walk for Love pet bandanas that are available in pink and blue for purchase at www.walkforlove.org.au. A reminder that you can bring your dog friends on a short leash to Walk for Love. We have treats at the ready for our furry family members! Registrations are now open and we would love to see you there to remember and honour the life of our loved ones together.

16.01.2022 Thank you so much to the Australian Hotels Association - SA Branch, who donated beautiful flowers to the Hospice last week! These gorgeous floral arrangements were from their Christmas function. There was so much joy left in the flowers, Lucy from the AHA-SA decided straight away to bring them to the Hospice to bring smiles to everyone and brighten every room. The AHA-SA have been doing this for many years for the Hospice. We are so grateful for such a lovely gesture.

14.01.2022 Recently we were asked to put together a special 90th Birthday celebration for a patient in the Hospice. We organised a birthday cake, some sparkling wine and chocolates. It was so lovely to make this possible for our patient and create a moment of joy at a difficult time in their life.

10.01.2022 We wish all the beautiful Mums a very Happy Mother’s Day. Today we recognised Mother’s Day at Mary Potter by gifting beautiful cupcakes created by bakedby.emily and a posy of flowers to each patient in the Hospice for them to share with their family and friends. We send our love and thoughts to those who find today especially difficult, especially to those who are without their mothers or without children. ... As you reflect and remember with love, take care & be gentle with yourself.

10.01.2022 On Friday afternoon, it looked like the baby animal cast from "Babe" had shown up to the Hospice. One of our patients had dearly wanted to take his young godson to the Zoo, but he just wasn't well enough to go. So the Hospice counsellor asked if we could bring the Zoo to them!... A lamb, kid goat, ducklings, rabbits, a hamster and a little piglet were some of the animals that made a special visit. Together, this gentleman and his godson fed, held, patted and just enjoyed being out in the garden with the baby animals and their keeper for over 2 hours. There were lots of laughs, and thanks to our wonderful donors, we organised a professional photographer to snap some special photos for our patient's family to treasure. Afterwards, we framed a special collage of photos from the occasion, and presented it to our patient - along with a bottle of his favourite whiskey (a glass of which would top his day off, he said!). He was just delighted, and both he and his family were so grateful for the beautiful memories created that afternoon.

08.01.2022 Today we were asked to put together a special 80th birthday celebration afternoon tea for a lovely Hospice patient. We heard she loves chocolate, so we put together a little chocolate fondue platter with fruit, and other chocolate treats. Plus there were balloons and sparkling wine all waiting for her and her family. There were lots of 'Wows' and a few tears when they saw what was waiting for them in the garden to enjoy together. It's so important to make these moments of normality and togetherness happen for patients and their families - and so lovely to be able to thank our donors for what they make possible.

08.01.2022 Brand-new PJs are kept in Mary Potter Hospice for patients who have either forgotten them (in the haste and stress of coming to the Hospice), or in cases where they have come directly from another hospital (where they were just in hospital gowns). This is one small way our donors make possible the wonderful care given to patients. Here with some new PJs about to go over to the Hospice is Elke, the newest member to our Foundation team. Welcome Elke!

06.01.2022 Last week we had a lovely visit from Ronnie, who started the quilt program for the Hospice many years ago with Lorna from the Foundation. Ronnie's friend Ros has just started making quilts for the Hospice too. Ros was eager to get involved with the program and has been enjoying it so much. We are very grateful to all our wonderful and talented quilters - their quilts are beloved by Hospice patients and their families.

03.01.2022 It is not often we have patients who follow GWS stay with us in the Hospice so when we found out that we had a patient who followed the Giants, we did what we could to decorate their Hospice room in his favourite footy colours! Here is a picture of our counsellor Sig with the GWS themed decorations just before we surprised the patient with them.

03.01.2022 When journalist John Yang was asked about something he read that may have helped him in his grief after his mother died, he replied: Within a year of my mother’s death I read John Irving’s A Prayer for Owen Meany. I wasn’t consciously looking to cope with my grief...but I came across a passage that so completely explained what I was feeling that I’ve since shared it with friends who’ve lost loved ones: When someone you love dies...you don’t lose her all at once; you lose ...her in pieces over a long timethe way the mail stops coming, and her scent fades from the pillows and even from the clothes in her closet and drawers. Gradually, you accumulate the parts of her that are gone. Just when the day comeswhen there’s a particular missing part that overwhelms you with the feeling that she’s gone, foreverthere comes another day, and another specifically missing part. There are so many that can relate to his words. Sending loving thoughts today to anyone grieving your own special person. Credit: www.pbs.org/newshour/arts/read-youre-grieving

02.01.2022 Every Christmas for the past ten years, 'The Cookie Club' visit the Hospice to hand-deliver their amazing array of yummy baked goodies to patients and families in the Hospice. 'The Cookie Club' is made up of Carole Woodmore and a group of Carole's friends, who gather together once a year to bake biscuits, slices, brownies, chocolate and gingerbread treats for patients & families in the Hospice. We are so grateful to this kind and caring group of friends. A big thank you to all of them - some more treats to pop in our '12 Days of Christmas' stockings!
