25.01.2022 Bordeaux wine region held to much fascination for wine drinkers across the globe. I bever realise the number of books on the subject I've acquired over the years. It does help if one enjoys history to learn of owners who owned, lost, sold, inherited various estates. How once underachieving properties are now living up to there potential. Bordeaux wines isn't just about trophy wines from the top 50 Châteauxs. It's also about wines that offer up good drinking once you know the producers across the region. My latest book on Bordeaux Inside Bordeaux by Jane Anson arrived courtesy of @airoldifinewines. Review to follow. #bordeaux #winelovers #winegeeks #vin #winehk #winenot

25.01.2022 In lockdown one decides to finally put photos together in an album. Wine photos are like mug shoots in a good way. Taken in 2004, just before moving to London, Each of these wines in photograph, still maintain good reputations for quality of their vineyards, grapes and winemaking practise. Most are still family owned and they are wines that I am still happy to drink. @bindiwines @lawsonsdryhills @champagnepolroger @michelechiarlo @palliserwine #winelovers #winetasting #wineo #winenot #winegeek #vin

16.01.2022 Those in the wine trade all know I'm a city slicker, though I do have relatives who work the land. For benefit of my country friends and those in the wine trade, a photo when I spent 6mths on my parents property last century. 15.01.2022 When in a wine store and you see displays of Sauternes displayed upright or any super premium wine under an bright light enclosed in a glass cabinet. Turn around and walk right out of the store as the store show lack of proper storage procedures. Sweet wines don't sell as fast as other wines. When prices of nearly $600 for a 375ml bottle, of the wine on the left, one would expect a level of care in maintaining wines at optimum storage. This image is inexcusable, considering i...t from one of the countries biggest wine retailers. If you chance on one of there promo videos for one of there stores, there's a so called specialist juggling a bottle of wine. Shame on them, considering they purport to be specialist in wine retail. #wineretail #winestore #winelovers #winegeek #winehk #sauternes #vin #winemerchant #winenot #wineo #winetime #wineoclock #winecollecting #wineappreciation See more

13.01.2022 When one is new to wine, we're influenced by medals on wine bottles. Today there is an abundance of wine shows in Australia and globally. A common question asked at my wine workshops. "Does medals awarded for one wine make@it better than wines without medals. To borrow from the Bronski Beat song "It Aint Necessarily So" to enter wine shows locally and internationally cost money. If your a large winery with a global marketing prescence then you'll have a budget to enter. Small...er wineries who produce wines in the mere hundreds or a couple thousand cases annually don't necessarily have the budget, yet they may develop a strong local following. When deciding if a medal is worth its weight, one must look at who the wine judges are at a particular show. Do you respect the judges judging. Do those judges have similar plates to your own. That is what they like in a wine, you also find appealing. In Australia look at awards garnered at regional wines shows, then capital city wine shows awards won. Some capital city shows medals carry more weight than others. No matter how many awards a wine wins, the question is do you enjoy it. Tasting wines is subjective. When I judged wines I start early in the day at 8.00am and found that around 1.00pm my palate suffered from palate fatigue. I always tell participants in my workshops. "If you enjoy it, buy it, drink it". I remind them that they are looking at things every day, smelling things everyday, tasting things every day. I remind them, they they already possess certain skills to make ther own judgement.Wine awards from credible wines shows domestically and abroad only act as a guide in ones enjoyment of wine. As I tell people the more you taste, the better you get. Enjoy the journey. #wineappreciation #winetasting #wineawards #vin #winelovers #winenot #winegeeks #wineo #winehk See more
12.01.2022 When you can't see your French relatives, when you've been hobbling around on crutches, when you can't celebrate birthdays with them. France comes to you thru a parcel delivery. To my family in France. Merci! It's been an extremely tough year for so many of us, to have them remember the birthday I couldn't spend with them in Paris, celebrate my wedding anniversary. Thank you so much for lremembering and sending an most generous gift of Krug 2002 to cheer me up. I will endeavour to improve my French when we next meet at the restaurant we've planned to dine early this year, it's just needs to be a different year. Keep safe all of you! 10.01.2022 Thanks Twiggy Forrest for making RM Williams Australian owned again. It had some hiccups along the way where many Aussies fell out of love with the brand. 07.01.2022 Tapanappa wines three exceptional vineyard sites in South Australia pioneered by the Croser family produce wine of character, diversity, age-ability and drinkability. There Chardonnay vineyard in the Piccadilly valley in the Adelaide hills 30 minutes from city of Adelaide, produce three distinctive chardonnays. Drive down towards there cellar is the Tiers vineyard one of Australia iconic Chardonnay vineyards planted in 1979 producing a wine that so beguiling, by it wonderfu...l depth of length, it was tasted with Tiers 1.5 M vineyard to the left of the wineries driveway planted with Burgundian clones, the Piccadilly Chardonnay next to the Crosers home completes triumvirate of three distinctive Chardonnays. On opening the wines seem tightly wound, as the wines warmed different characters evolved in the glass. There top cuvée the Tiers planted in 1979 shows immense tension, power and length, it's in the top Panthenon of super premium cool climate Australian chardonnays. The 1.5 M is close planted to Burgundian clones reward those who enjoy a wine that surprise with its length and flavour profile. While the Piccadilly cuvée proved to be a lovely wine to enjoy with cheese. On showing these wines, with a meal of locally caught crayfish, guests where constantly amazed at all three Chardonnays grown on different aspects of this unique vineyard, using different clones, variations in wine making, time in oak to create white wines that I enjoy showing to wine aficionados . Yes! In Perth one is spoiled by quality of chardonnays coming out of the Great Southern and Margaret River regions. Yet if one is developing a Australian cellar that represent wines admired locally and globally then Tapanappa wines are welcone additions to ones drinking repertoire. Production of these remarkable wines are in limited quantities due to the size of this remarkable vineyard site. @tapanappa Tiers is made in the hundred of dozens only. #winelovers #vin #winenot #winegeek #wineo #chardonnay #awardwinning #adelaidehills @adelaidehillswine @broadsheet.adelaide See more
07.01.2022 2015 DAOSA Blanc de Blancs made from Burgundian Chardonnay clones, planted in picturesque Piccadilly Valley in the Adelaide Hills. Grape growing, picking of fruit, pressing of juice, fermentation, secondary fermentation, disgorgement is all done in house by the Bizot family. Only first 550 litres is pressed per tonne, with only juice from first pressing used. Exacting standards, just like in Champagne. Xavier Bizot in fact hails from AŸ in Champagne. He was born next to the ...family cellar door, so in many ways the grapes, the region runs in his veins. He is the grand nephew of the late Lilly Bollinger. Grapes in the vineyard where planted by his father Christian Bizot, in many ways to remind Xavier of his roots so to speak. This is one beautifully crafted wine, highly acclaimed not just in Australia. In London last month it picked up a Platinum medal, only one of 17 awarded to Australian wines out of thousands of wines tasted across the globe at the Decanter World Wine Awards. When you smell the wine, a nose of ripe stone fruits tantalises the senses, it possesses a lingering mouth fill. Only a few hundred cases of this wine is produce from these stunning vineyards. Grab a bottle, half dozen before it all goes. A tip the 2016 soon to be released is also a cracker. Oh by they way those of you who put some away in their cellar will be expressing wow, wow and double wow in years to come. @daosa_sparkling #chardonnay #methodetraditionnelle #sparklingwine #winelovers #winery #winenot #winehk #wineo #winegeek @terreaterrewine See more
07.01.2022 Roast pork, duck breast, chicken, egg, red pepper, potato, celery, rice noodles. Garnished with red chills and coriander. Using left overs to create a meal. Wine: 2017 Koomilya Mclaren Vale Tempranillo / Touriga made by Stephen Pannel was quite a revelation. Bit tight on pouring, yet as the wine opened in the glass a fragrant nose of blackberries captures your attention, lthen roast root vegetables . On palate, spice notes, wild berries, touches of chocolate, an lingering mouthfeel that reminds you of mince pies you eat during Xmas. Tannins weren't overbearing. @mrsferal commented on how smooth the wine was. #redwine #winelovers #winenot #wineo #wineoclock #winetasting #mclarenvalewine #homecooking #noodles #australianwine

04.01.2022 The Double T tasting of Tapanappa and Terre à Terre. These wines won't be seen everywhere due to small volume produced from these outstanding vineyard sites in the Adelaide Hills and Wrattonbully. Quality is world class from the grapes, winemaking practice. Tapanappa ( meaning Stick To The Path in local aboriginal language ) & Terre à Terre ( French for Down To Earth) is owned by the Croser and Bizot familes are wines, that those serious about developing a cellar need to ad...d some to there cellar. Family controlled from viticulture, harvesting through to bottling is all done in house. Both wineries are rated five red stars in 2021 Halliday Wine Companion, that is that consistently they have two or more wines rated 95 pts and above. The Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay is rated as one of Australia's top 25 super premium chardonnays, 2015 DAOSA Blanc de Blancs is a stunner . Also keep eyes out for there NV Natural Réserve. The rosé made from Chardonnay & Pinot Noir fruit used in DAOSA. The two Sauvignon Blanc while both different in style shows excellent fruit, barrel fermentation to add length and purity. These wines are so good that I enjoy showing to my French colleagues who work in hospitality and wine. One of my visitors on tasting these wines commented Australie ! incroyable ! A testament to these world class wines. #winelovers #wibe #vin #viticulture #winemaking #wineot #wineo #winehk @daosa_sparkling @terreaterrewine @tapanappa See more

02.01.2022 It's feels like winter this weekend. L not Spring. Blasts of cold air, wind gust and rain causing temperatures to plummet. Only those in wesuits where game to go into the water. This storm feels like how mankind is feeling negotiating a tempest that shows no resolution. Like storms it will past where possibility of a caring world awaits, it's a hope many cherish across the globe. Yet the raft of inept, uncaring leaders, whose mantra is just in it for themselves. Let's hope ...when election time occur in societies where criticising a leader won't land you in jail or worse, positive change will be a coming. Our planet is seeking to re- boot itself environmentally with Covid-19, yet nations sabre rattling, oppression of people who want a voice heard, ethnic cleansing, marginalising of peoples for their ethnicity, cultural and denial of freedom of speech seems to hark back to a world 80 years ago where it's was plunged into an darkness of hate and oppression. Let's hope mankind can learn, from past errors to make this blue planet and mankind better incarnations. Some would call it a dream, yet as one man spoke on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, it's a dream worth holding on. #life #hope #oneearth #positivechange #beach #storm #perth See more
