The "Mikhlol" website, which defines itself as the Jewish encyclopedia, has ...deleted the women from the famous painting by the painter Maurycy Gottlieb. Unfortunately, we have become accustomed to seeing the faces of female public officials deleted and posters with women's faces being vandalized outdoors, but we didn't see this one coming. Taking such a famous paintings and corrupting it by erasing the pious women praying in the synagogue... that's a new low and a scandal, which is impossible to accept. The distance from here to known cases of vandalizes done to works of art and culture in the name of extremist religious beliefs is not so far away. We join the world as it mourns the passing, on Erev Rosh Hashanah, of Asso...ciate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States and trailblazer for equality and justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. According to Jewish tradition, a person who dies on Rosh Hashanah is a tzadikah, a person of great righteousness. RBG was certainly that. And of course, "tzadikah" is derived from the root word of "tzedek", which means justice. It is believed RBG had this Hebrew text from the Torah hanging on the wall of her chambers: "Tzedek, tzedek tirdof justice, justice you shall pursue. She said, The demand for justice runs through the entirety of Jewish history and Jewish tradition. We pledge to not just remember her legacy but to always strive to do better in creating a more just society. May Ruth Bader Ginsburg's memory be forever blessed.

09.01.2022 A strong defence of Israel from Senator Kimberley Kitching at a UN Roundtable Prominent Labor Senator Kimberley Kitching gave the Keynote Address to a Unit...ed Nations Roundtable on implementing standards and norms for peace and security as they look forward to the UN’s 100th anniversary in 2045. She noted that the only country which is regularly condemned by the UN Human Rights Council is Israel, which is the only country subject to a standing Agenda item. She said, Israel is the only country in the Middle East with free elections, free media, free trade unions, free civil society, freedom for all religions, and freedom for women and for LGBTI people. Yet it is regularly condemned by a council dominated by counties which have none of these things. Senator Kitching’s strong leadership on these issues is long-standing. Waking up to terror should NOT be a daily reality. ZFA President Jeremy Leibler attended the Melb...ourne rally, and had the following to say: The Australian Jewish community with support from representatives of the Government and Opposition came together today, he said. We came from the left and right, from religious and secular backgrounds to declare one simple message: Israel has a right to live in peace and a right to defend itself when attacked. Mr Leibler welcomed the cessation of violence. We mourn the loss of innocent life, he said, and we were deeply relieved when the ceasefire began. The people of Israel and, indeed, the members of the Australian Jewish community desire peace between Israel and its neighbours. We call on the international community to ensure that Hamas is not able to rebuild its capacity to attack Israel. It is a sad indictment that in 2021 we have seen a dramatic increase in antisemitism - blatant hatred of Jews and equally as sinister, anti-Semitism hidden under the guise of anti-Zionism. 07.10.2021 We at Masorti Olami and MERCAZ Olami are deeply saddened by the passing of Miriam Naor zl, former President of the Supreme Court of Israel and cornerstone of t...he legal system for decades, who passed away on Sunday evening. Naor was born in Jerusalem in 1947, and received her law degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1980 she was appointed as a judge on the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, at age 33, and in 1988 she became a judge in the Jerusalem District Court. During her 14-tenure on the Supreme Court, Naor oversaw some of the most significant cases in Israel’s history, including striking down legislation that sought to delay drafting ultra-Orthodox Jews into the army; barring the state from deporting African migrants against their will; allowing mini-markets in Tel Aviv to operate on Shabbat; and forcing the government to recognize private conversions to Judaism for the sake of citizenship. Since October 2018, she served as the President of the Zionist Supreme Court of the World Zionist Organization. In this position, Naor encouraged all Zionist Federations to conduct elections and celebrate this democratic principle, promising a fair representation to all groups in the Zionist federation.
