19.01.2022 Humans of WSMS: Quarantine Chronicles #4 Meet Sean our second first year rep! Check out his story below! "When I started this year, I knew it would be a challenge. But I thought that even though it might be a bit difficult, that there wouldn’t be too many surprises. Boy was I wrong. 2020 has really been something else. Now for this piece of writing, it won’t be about my story but it’s about something important I’ve realised during these past few months:... Restrictions were pretty bad - it really sucked being home alone for such a long time. For those who know me, I sometimes tend to overindulge in TV shows and video games. Usually when I feel motivated to go out on an adventure and explore, I end up putting it on the backburner and postponing it always using studying or exams as an excuse not to go out. But being at home and unable to go out for so long during restrictions has made me realise something. That life isn't about staying home glued to our TV screens or computer monitors. Even though we can get so caught up with our uni, work, familial and/or other commitments it is so important for us to take some time off and explore the world around us. I don’t mean to sound all preachy but for those who feel the same way as me, we should take the restrictions as a wakeup call and make sure that we spend our time differently when everything gets back to normal. Even though medicine is such a fulfilling career, it is also a very busy career and we need to make sure to practise self-care as students now and as practitioners in the future. Every day should be an adventure :)"

16.01.2022 Join us in celebrating #WearItPurpleDay2020 August 28th is an LGBTQIA+ awareness day with a focus on Australian youth. In Australia, 11.2% of young people identify under the queer umbrella and 75% of them experience a form of discrimination due to lack of acceptance of their identity. By wearing purple, you can show solidarity to rainbow people around you and raise awareness for the issues faced by queer people

13.01.2022 Humans of WSMS: Quarantine Chronicles #6 This is our lovely second yr rep. Sharon! Read her story below! "I always tell people that one of the best things to ever happen to me was to take my damn time to get into medicine. It definitely didn’t feel like it during those four years of rejection, but in hindsight it forced me to gain a (much-needed) better understanding of myself and form an identity that didn’t place my dream career at the centre of my life. I had the opportun...Continue reading

05.01.2022 Humans of WSMS: Quarantine Chronicles #5 Meet our secretary Jack and check out his amazing story below! Writing out a player profile because I realised my personality can’t sustain a full humans of WSMS post. ... Name: Jack Carlson, but I go by many Insta alter egos post carlsone carlsonavirus.. etc Position: Secretary Age: 21 Height: 6’4 (two separate measurements) Weight: 78kg Strengths - Reciting Julia Gillard’s misogyny speech - Intersectionality privilege score - Eagle rock Weaknesses - Humans of WSMS - $10 popcorn chicken buckets - Getting a spot at Lismore Best advice: Half your age plus seven Common misconception: Most people believe I peaked in high school given that I never stop talking about it. I actually peaked in primary school as class vice-captain. Hobbies: Surf boat rowing is a good excuse to whip out the banana hammock at the beach.
