25.01.2022 I live by the Principal of.... 'Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you' Responsibility is something that comes with Growing up, but sadly, it appears they haven't done that yet!

24.01.2022 Saturday night was a fun nite with marvelous food being served by equally wonderful staff, the venue was fab tooooo!! I took some photos of those, please excuse me if you are not in these......

24.01.2022 Hi to those in Adelaide, while walking through TTP, I went into QBD bookstore and found that they have copies of Grey's anatomy for 9.99 dollars. An opportunity to get a great read n reference book.

23.01.2022 Hi fellow Embalmers, Mortuary Technicians, Members of the BIE had their Annual conference here in Adelaide which was held at the Centennial Park Complex, we had an array of speakers who spoke on topics that were interesting and educational. Our nightly dinners were a little 'different' but enjoyable. Next year we look forward to having the conference in Melbourne. I have included a few photos that I took of the nightly events.

It has been good to do the trip n take some beautiful/wonderful photos n in good time I'll post them on the website. Until someone finds me to do training, catchyar.... blessings.

22.01.2022 I've heard and seen it many many times in my life and as I get older, I know it's true. "A soft answer turns away wrath!"

22.01.2022 This afternoon I was VERY CHUFFED and PROUD to find out that a trainee of mine, MN, did such a Fantastic job on the final prep, the visitation and the FUNERAL. The Family were delighted with the final outcome with the children viewing their loved one to have that wonderful last recognition to treasure in their hearts. Well done MN, well done!!

22.01.2022 It's been awhile since I have posted a comment, WELL! We have the upcoming AIE CONFERENCE which will be held on the 8,9,10 of October 2015 @ the Opal Cove Resort, Coffs Harbour, NSW. The information pack has been sent out to the members BUT if you would like to attend this international conference, please contact the AIE head office in Melbourne for more information. One of the international speakers is Melissa Johnson Williams of the USA speaking on a variety of topics. Plan to be there.

21.01.2022 Someone once said, "The only disability we have in life is a Bad ATTITUDE!!"Someone once said, "The only disability we have in life is a Bad ATTITUDE!!"

20.01.2022 Well! we are on the downward slope to the end of the year, great things have happened with those who have had training moving into jobs within the funeral industry, new trainees are in the pipeline and await prepping with information regarding what is intailed to enter into the realm of a mortuary/funeral working life. Btw, I had a great time with my grandson with our roadtrip to Darwin and back, I took copious pictures which I have just about finished processing and will be putting them up on my www.deadstillphotography.com.au which will be For Sale in due course.

20.01.2022 Hi fellow Embalmers, this Tuesday night we have the BIE talk by Mark Simpson at Elbergs, be there at 5.30 for 6.00 start.

19.01.2022 WOW! These last 2 months has seen two new "Mortuary Technicians" being trained in how to conduct themselves, prepare deceased clients and make them ready for their funerals within the Mortuary Environment. There is so much talent in the trainees that are trained, where, they can go on to work within the industry and to fulfill a deep desire within themselves to not only do what is right and fitting but to give the families they serve that "last rememberance" of their loved one before their funeral service. Well Done...

19.01.2022 For all those who attended the AIE Conference in Hobart, we had a great time, the list of speakers were educational in their presentations, with helpful hints in OUR own health. Tonight!! is the last night with the closing dinner, the food has been wonderful, not only in the hotel but with the Greek cuisine. Hobart is a terrific place to visit and see all the attractions that one can visit..... Next year, we have NZ, save your pennies and hope to see you there.... I've included photos of the speakers....

19.01.2022 Enjoying the wonderful sunset over freo and an evening dinner with my colleagues...

19.01.2022 I came across this on LinkedIn, over the years I've seen some nasty things that happen in the workplace and I've had to deal with these individuals, The saying which says, "Fly like an eagle so the turkies on the ground can gobble amongst themselves" can be so liberating...I came across this on LinkedIn, over the years I've seen some nasty things that happen in the workplace and I've had to deal with these individuals, The saying which says, "Fly like an eagle so the turkies on the ground can gobble amongst themselves" can be so liberating...

18.01.2022 It's amazing what one will find when one goes a little deeper. Surface histology will give you a good picture, macro even better, micro, whallah! Autopsies are a necessary tool in establishing the WHAT, WHERE, and the WHY did it happen. I know scanning is done a lot now, but those personnel who are training miss out on so many facets of what can come from the coronial, teaching, and the embalming of such cases.

18.01.2022 The BIGGEST thing in Education n Training is this..... I saw a post and decided to share. If you want to be successful, THIS IS IT!!!

16.01.2022 Watch this space. In the coming months I will be conducting on-line anatomy classes running through the human body from head to toe, major organs, skeletal system, muscular system, arterial & venous pathways, if you are interested I will place more info which will include visual plus interactive sessions with the option of asking and reviving answers in real time WATCH THIS SPACE!!!!

15.01.2022 As this year comes to a close, I would like to remind you as my colleagues that you do a SUPER JOB, quite often not given any encouragement or praise for the work that is done in the sacred room of a funeral home, don't worry about that!!! BECAUSE you have the innate privilege of caring for a person who has lived a life full of problems, happiness, and whatever has come their way. But Now, they are in your care. Just think!! One day YOU, yes you are going to be in that position too, so keep those thoughts and continue to do magic and wonders for the person and the families we serve...

15.01.2022 Well! Not long now, the 8-10 Oct is the AIE CONFERENCE in Coffs Harbour, the list of speakers to talk in the sessions will be great to listen too and you will come away from the conference knowing that you can put what is heard into practice. Hope to see you there. I'll be making an announcement regarding a post I put on about " watch this space " a little while ago. Catchyar!!!

14.01.2022 Hi fellow Tech's n Embalmers, it has come to my notice that a "phrase" has been bantered about & I'd like to bring ur attention to the attached picture, please note the date on the official Government document as I purchased this name for my business which I have been conducting over the last few years, please don't use this title in correspondence or in deed.

14.01.2022 Today! I was very proud of one of my Students, Bev Harper for attempting and completing a makeup on a deceased person that I had embalmed 3 1/2 weeks ago to be able to have this person ready for Visitation. Well done!!!

14.01.2022 What a year this has been, some say good, Somme say yeah nah!! We only have 3 more months left b4 Christmas. It seems that budding Mortuary technicians want to avail themselves of the training that I do, to assist them in advancing their careers in preparing the loved ones that are in their care. Students have traveled from from different parts of Australia to complete, "one on one" training in preparing the loved one for the upcoming funeral. If you need anymore information, please leave your particulars and I'll get back to you.

13.01.2022 Well!!! Life is good......... this time of lockdown, confinement, not going out, Zoom meetings, facetime, you name it and its happening... BUT!!! that doesn't mean one has to be a hermit, a NO worker, it's about LIFE, how you do it that matters. I've been very busy with doing things around the house, I.e. painting, building, gardening, photography, you name it and I'm doing it!! also.. as an Embalmer, I'm called upon by the Funeral Director to service to the needs for embalmi...ng for visitation, Long stayers, Repatriations etc. My passion is in #education, #training, #empowering, #skills in the mortuary. I am busy do that now, I conduct a "Mortuary Technicians" course which is a "One on One" training with FULL hands on experience that the student can take away with them to apply in the funeral home they are employed, or as two of my students, have their own premises where they help their families in the process of the funeral, from go to whoa! "To make a change, One needs to make that in themselves before they can make it in others" this I've tried to do in my training. See more

13.01.2022 Hi fellow Embalmers, This Tuesday night evening there is a CPD @ Alfred James, Prospect rd Prospect Sth Aust. Mike Tajnikar is a Senior Constable First Class with the SA police. He will be speaking about sudden deaths which involve the coroners and the process for transferring the deceased from the scene. He is currently a Trainer with the Driver and Traffic Training Unit stationed at the Police Academy teaching operational police officers (not cadets) about traffic related ...matters. Prior to this he trained police prosecutors and was a police prosecutor for 8 years. He spent several years as an instructor at the police Academy teaching cadets and prior to this on general patrols, chiefly in the Elizabeth, Gawler and Salisbury areas. So, if you can make it, 6.00 for a 6.30 start.

13.01.2022 Ok!! It's Christmas time again... Wow, what a year, very productive with training and work, the trainees are spread all over the land. I don't know what will happen in 2019 but if it's a indication of what has happened, WOW what a ride is ahead...... Soooooo... I'd like to wish everyone a Wonderful Christmas and a very blesse'd New Year.. Remember, at this time, Forgiveness is very much a theme for Christmas as Jesus came to give us all this...

12.01.2022 Well! We are two weeks away from the BIE Conference in Brisbane, have you registered? Accommodation been sorted? Well you had better get cracking, don't want to miss out on a fabulous time meeting with ur peers, sharing what has happened over the last year, best of all we get to hear speakers from around the world talking on subjects that will increase one's knowledge base. Hope to see you there, Oh! and BTW I'll b there with my camera as Dead Still Photography to document all the goings on. Catchyar.

11.01.2022 It has been a wonderful year of moving forward with training n teaching, developing new procedures, and the students that were trained are now working within the industry & putting the skills that were learned into their daily practice. Thank you to all my college's within the industry, family n friends, I wish you a very bless'ed Merry Christmas & a wonderful New Year for 2018.

10.01.2022 Just a interesting thought to contemplate, have u at times after u have completed an embalm or a TP u take out the jelco it will ooze, well then we either tape it up or put some fluid to stop it oozing. WELL! Don't take it out until... Fill up a 10ml syringe with Genelyn Feature builder and take the cap off the jelco, inject the feature builder into the jelco that is Still in the vessel, this will fill the vessel(vein) now withdraw the jelco, apply some digital pressure over the site, whallar!!!! The vessel Will not leak or ooze. There you have it. Give it a TRY!!!!

09.01.2022 Happy new year to all of you wonderful Embalmers/Mortuary Technicians and those who love and would love to work in the most wonderful place to see things Happen!!!! Sorry about the lack of posts, my Luffley wife Rhonda, her disease, Cancer, and the Leukaemia finally took it's toll. It was a Great Pleasure to Love n Care for her because that is what Love is All about. Mortuary training is something that I continue to do to those who ask! This is carried out on a 'one to one' basis so that the student gets my undivided attention and any wayward actions can be corrected. We have the up n coming BIE convention in February to be held in Adelaide, Plan to be there n also take in the wonderful atmosphere of Adelaideian cuisine. Hope to see you there.....................

08.01.2022 Just saw this posted by someone else, GREAT!! Be the leader you would follow.....

07.01.2022 Another conference has come n gone, we had a good bunch of commedians as usual, we can have some really hard day's putting together that which is broken to just being there for our colleges. Thanks to Craig for stepping in at the last moment, hoping that Jacqueline has good results. Good to see lots of youngens stepping up to the mark, us oldies will only be around for a little while yet!!! LOL it was also good to see a couple get their certificate's after a hard time studying, good one!!! The learning process starts when you get your certificate, that's when you have the energy and the confidence to tackle all that comes your way. One will need to save the pennies for the 2020 conference in Queenstown NZ, it should be a great time mixing with our mates across the ditch.

07.01.2022 Some exciting news..... I have just learnt that a student of mine has been working in a Mortuary Environment and has had a couple of letters from families how the deceased client was well liked by the preparation that was conducted by this student, ALSO... will be accepted to do the Embalming course the end of next year. I'm so pleased to hear of this as this student is able to see beyond what is before and create a masterpiece for families to have that final visitation before burial or cremation. WELL DONE.......

06.01.2022 Hi Fellow Embalmers, Mortuary Technicians, and those who aspire to work in the back room of a Funeral Home. Have you ever considered the humble cell!!! there are Trillion and trillion of cells in the human body. there are those that make up the organs of the body, muscles, your eyes, ears etc. the list goes on and on.......... BUT have you wondered WHAT is in ONE SINGLE CELL??? Look at the picture of the cell in my banner............ It's a Power house, breaking down all the... nutrients that come through the walls of the cell to help it to function, then excrete the waste products. It's a marvellous thing, I would say by a Master designer that all these DO NOT exist to be alone, they ALL WORK TOGETHER to bring about a living creation. Grab a Anatomy & Physiology book and do the research yourself, you won't be disappointed. See more

06.01.2022 Yeah!! it's been a while since I posted something.... Well.. I'm traveling to Melbourne for the BIE conf. (6 - 9/2) to hang out with my colleagues in the Embalming fraternity. Looking forward to hearing from the speakers and sharing information with them. For those who have an inquiring mind, here's some things to get your head around..... True or false.. 1. The axial skeleton includes the skull, vertebral column, ribs, sternum and hyoid bone. 2. The hyoid bone is in... direct contact with the vertebral column. 3. There are three pairs of floating ribs that have no contact with the sternum. 4. The five lumbar vertebrae allow free rotation of the trunk. Soooooooo, I'll give you a little bit of time to think about these questions and then I'll post the answers. For those who are attending the conference, hope to see you there...

06.01.2022 I do hope Kirsty,Karl,Craig, n Jan enjoy NZ seeing you all have a Busy itenery ahead of you. It will be a little colder there for u Karl, nothing like Adelaide's weather. We r having 37 deg today. Friday. Blessings

05.01.2022 Hi, I decided to make up a new business card for my mortuary training, it has the info that is needed to display my particulars and my contact details. Already this year, two trainees have participated in mortuary training that will equip them in their travels to work within a funeral home to deliver the best outcomes for the families whom they will serve, when they allow the loved ones of the families to be prepared by these individuals. It is good to see these personal moving out into funeral homes and continuing to make a change within the funeral industry. Well done to all those who know who you are......

05.01.2022 Well! it's 2018.......... Another year ahead of us where mortuary training will continue to those who wish to be trained, Thankyou to YOU, who have liked my page, I try to post whenever possible but sometimes it can be far between posts. for those who have been trained, they are happily working within the industry do those things that improve the experience that we in Australia, Viewing/Visitation. It doesn't take much effort to do the JOB properly.

04.01.2022 2020!!! The fastest BIE conf has been and gone, BUT.. everyone has thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The committee has done a super job in organizing the different venues and the eateries were great!! The speakers gave a little of themselves in being honest about their work as well as themselves. Here are the pictures I took of the Speakers with assorted views of Melbourne.

04.01.2022 We are already into March and it's been busy, what with training students in the craft of mortuary procedures, photo touring/training, photo shoots and just living life But! it's all good. This year seems to be starting off with lots to come with the students that had training last year are all working within the industry providing their employer with the best they can do, and for the families, the best experience they have to see their loved ones for the last time. Who said getting older would allow time to rest? haha, there is plenty on the plate to come so I'll enjoy what is to come......... Catchyar

04.01.2022 Hi to those to love to learn. A while back I posted that to "watch this space!!!" I have added a link to a tutorial that I posted in Google Hangouts, Please excuse the presentation as this is my first attempt, the information is there for those who are interested to learn and service their own embalming machines. There will be more educational subjects in the coming months, I'll keep you posted. ... http://donaldharper.com.au//5-knowing-your-embalming-machi See more

03.01.2022 To all who are interested in learning more............. This coming Friday 7th April @ 5pm, I will be conducting a CPD in Hobart titled A Different approach to the care of Neonates, Babies, and Small Children If you are interested attending, please contact Alex Gjocaj in Hobart for further information. This is also open to Doctors, Nurses, and anyone who deals with deceased babies and would like to know what goes on behind the scenes with the care and attention that is offered by embalmers and the mortuary technicians to the mothers, fathers, and the families who have lost a neo-nat, baby, or a child.

02.01.2022 Well, here's a cheerio to all my colleagues.... Do you all wash your hands??? Yes, I know, a silly question?? But It I'm saying BEFORE ONE PUTS THEIR GLOVES ON!!!! it's not such a silly question when you think about it!!! Our hands are in gloves most of the time we are working, so it stands to reason because inside the gloves is a nice warm environment, think about it?? Right!! Oh! and wash them when you take them off, because WE ARE FRONT LINE WORKERS, we have to look after ...ourselves. We are a miniscule percentage of the working force but we see the vast percentage of those in AUSTRALIA. Have a great day, don't panic, stay calm, that way YOU won't make any mistakes. Thanks for listening... Share if you need to to whoever!! See more

02.01.2022 What a start to the year, a whole lot of challenges to come!!! The BIE Conference that has just finished was very informative and is always great to catch up with friends and colleagues, and is wonderful to share with young embalmers, tips that can assist them in their day to day workings. Exciting times ahead as new students desire to be trained and enter the back rooms of a funeral home where the nitty gritty work of a funeral takes place, it becomes a hallowed place where families entrust their loved ones into our care to sometimes work miracles but mostly present them for the families funeral.

01.01.2022 As we get near the end of 2018 and look over the past year, those who have been trained and are working within the industry, doing really well I must say, to those who are going to undertake "Mortuary Training" to have a shift in their lives to enter a profession where very few would work, I say 'Well Done to You' To the trainees who are going to undertake this challenge and to see and do the things that will change their lives, be prepared to stretch your minds to a fulfillment in a service to the families who you will serve.
