25.01.2022 Did you know : the Mantis Shrimp also known as "prawn killers" in Australia can strike with great power. They are among the most important predators in many shallow, tropical and subtropical marine habitats. Mantis Shrimps have powerful claws that are used to attack and kill prey by spearing, stunning, or dismembering. However, despite being common, they are poorly understood, as many species spend most of their lives tucked away in burrows and holes. This MS was found on Casuarina Beach. MASTERBAIT - BLUE HEARTS - BEACH CLEAN UP POP UP EVENT : SEPTEMBER 13 AT 09:00AM AT DRIPSTONE BEACH CASUARINA COASTAL RESERVE - Join in the fun

16.01.2022 10 Good reasons to LOVE Gunn Point Peninsula GUNN POINT PENNISULA IS MY HOME- help safeguard my home for the future.? I am a Humpback Whale and I arrive in the Northern Territory waters around June (to calve) having travelled from the Antarctic then leave again in October to travel back to Antarctica for summer. I am characterized as a filter feeder and feed primarily on krill, small fishes, and plankton. Whales and coastal dolphins (Cetaceans) inhabit the Gunn Point Peninsu...la and today’s potential treats to us include habitat loss, depletion of prey, chemical discharge and pollution, climate change and boat strikes. Did you Know? The PCBs that whales, dolphins, and porpoises absorb from their food end up being stored mainly in their fatty tissue (blubber). The levels of PCBs in an animal's blubber will build up over time as it consumes more and more contaminated fish. PCBs are toxic, they cause sterility and are decimating marine mammal populations. ... Breaking down blubber in this way releases a flood of toxic PCBs into their body. Some whale populations are set to die out within a generation. Help create positive change today by participating in the MasterBait Blue Hearts Biodiversity Awareness Campaign 2020; promote healthy habitats and help safeguard our rivers, seas, and oceans ( Gunn Point Beach Clean Up 11 October 2020 (9-12)

12.01.2022 10 Good reasons to LOVE ....Gunn Point Peninsula Did you know ? Gunn Point had the code name ‘The Cannon’ during WW2 in defence of Darwin. The two Japanese air raids were the first, and largest, of more than 100 air raids against Australia during 194243.

11.01.2022 10 Good reasons to LOVE Gunn Point Peninsula GUNN POINT PENNISULA IS MY HOME - help safeguard my home for the future. I am a Migratory Shorebird known as the Far Eastern Curlew and I am listed as vulnerable and endangered species. I spend my time between north-eastern Asia, including Siberia to Kamchatka, and Mongolia and Australia. During my migration I pass the Yellow Sea. I enjoy habitats such as marsh and swampy wetlands and lakeshores where I use my long bill to probe fo...r invertebrates in the mud. Did you know? Gunn Point Peninsula has in total 26 migratory shorebirds, 13 resident shorebirds and 16 seabird species recorded within the area of Gunn Point with 8 migratory shorebirds listed as vulnerable and endangered (EPBC Act). Today killer trash is killing our birds with an estimated 80% of sea and water birds digesting plastics. The birds eat accidentally eat plastic and other marine debris floating in the ocean, mistaking it for food. ... It's probable that it injures or kills the birds by cutting their stomachs or taking up space, making them feel full when they are starving. Today’s potential treats to me include plastic and pollution, human disturbance and decline of habitat. Help create positive change today by participating in the MasterBait Blue Hearts Biodiversity Awareness Campaign 2020; promote healthy habitats and help safeguard our rivers, seas, and oceans ( Gunn Point Beach Clean Up 11 October 2020 starts 9-12)

11.01.2022 A massive big thank you to everyone who gave up a few hours of their Sunday morning to come along to the monthly Blue Hearts Beach Clean Up at Buffalo Beach. As always it is great to catch up and do our little bit to keep our coast lines clean

10.01.2022 10 Good reasons to LOVE Gunn Point Peninsula Gunn Point is rich in Bio- Diversity; it has four significant rain forests in this area; its wetlands provide safe haven for migratory birds in the wet season (who travel thousands of miles from side of the world to the other). Its mangrove forests form a fringe on the coastline from Gunn Point to Point Stephens and create rich nursery environment for fish and it continues to surprise us with tidal habitats and coral reefs. Unders...tanding these habitats, you will know realise how important Gunn Point truly is as it supports multiple eco-systems here in the NT. Help create positive change today by participating in the MasterBait Blue Hearts Biodiversity Awareness Campaign 2020; promote healthy habitats and help safeguard our rivers, seas, and oceans ( Gunn Point Beach Clean Up 11 October 2020 starts 9-12.
