25.01.2022 Our reaction when people ask us how we feel about being able to return to work!

24.01.2022 Let’s talk about calves! Following on from our post about shins and all the excess workload they’re dealing with at the moment, we thought we’d also talk about the opposing region in the lower leg - the calf complex. The calf is made up of two muscles: 1. Gastrocnemius - the thinner more superficial muscle that shapes the two heads you see when activating the calf. 2. Soleus - the deeper, bigger muscle beneath the gastrocs. ... Both muscles plantar flex the ankle (point the toes away from you) but as you can see in the last image, the soleus starts and finishes below the knee whereas the gastrocnemius attaches at the distal femur above the knee so it also has a small role in knee flexion. There’s an endless number of stretches for these two muscles and we’ve captured the most popular ones for you here - swipe across to see the straight and bent knee variations of each. Spiky balls and foam rollers can also be useful. Happy Stretching! @ Mastering Movement See more

24.01.2022 Step downs Start simple - holding the wall for assistance Video demo - Increasing the challenge by decreasing assistance using a less stable aid... Aim for knees over toes and shifting your weight forward until you feel your heel lifting. (Not everything is about keeping your weight in your heels and knees behind toes - We do still need knees over toes for some activities). Disclaimer: don’t do this exercise if you’re currently suffering with pain in your knee caps. PhysioPerry

21.01.2022 Just like the rest of us here at Mastering Movement, Perry’s (our Physio) special interest in treating any and all sports injuries comes from his special interest in competing in any and all sports! So when we tell you we understand what you’re saying, we mean it!

20.01.2022 We just can’t get enough of our Mastering Movement doggos! It’s not that obvious, is it? Ft. Perry and Bill making the most of Spring and enjoying their Friday afternoon off.

20.01.2022 @bubblybeanscafe the true definition of a local, family run, small business. When supporting local looks this good, how can you not!?

19.01.2022 This weeks daily mantra We’ve finally reached breaking point. Motivation is at an all time low and we are starting to go a little loopy so we are reminding ourselves how close we are to a positive step in the right direction! 13 days to go!

19.01.2022 What do you get when you come to Mastering Movement? A friendly, attentive, caring team of therapists (and therapy ) and ALWAYS a smile.

18.01.2022 Smokey’s face when it’s Friday eve and he knows the weekend is around the corner which means 48 hours of all eyes on him!

16.01.2022 Like many, 2020 has had us with our hands tied, our back against the ropes and a forced hibernation for a little while. It nearly had us. But! We’re making our comeback. And you better believe it’s going to be big! We started as 1, then became 2, grew to 3 and now 4 and we have BIG plans for our community. For now, here’s all you need to know: @physioperry is our numero uno and can take any clients as of right now! ... ALL face to face services (including Massage & Myotherapy) will return from November 1. Our online booking system is ready to go and open for bookings from November - spots are filling fast! We will contact everyone who had an appointment cancelled/postponed or who was put on a wait list ASAP and get you all sorted with your bookings. Our cleaning and hygiene standards & protocols will remain of the highest standard, we guarantee that! We are so happy to bring our ever evolving business back to life in our community. What a rollercoaster this year has been, one with A LOT of lows. We’ve had our fair share of hurdles over our time in business but we persevere and we always bounce back because we NEVER give in. 2020 pushed us closer to seeing and feeling what defeat looks like than we’ve ever been before. And we know we’re not alone. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank each and every one of you for supporting us along the way and giving us the drive to come out the other end! We literally would not be here without you and we will never be able express our gratitude enough for that. We are so excited to see you all and can’t wait to give you the best care possible again!! From the team at Mastering Movement - Michaela, Montana, Perry, Sophie and of course, Bill & Smokey

16.01.2022 Motivation comes and goes. But commitment. Commitment is your choice to dedicate yourself to, and focus on, your goals. It’s a choice to work on them or towards them whether you’re motivated at that moment or not and whether you feel like it at the time or you don’t. The journey is never a race and it’s NEVER a straight line! Consistency is key and it starts with a commitment!

16.01.2022 If you’re from Metro Melbourne, you know what we’re taking about!!! WE’RE BACK BABY!! *insert happy tears here*

15.01.2022 A friend of mine asked me what it was like living (and owning a business) in metro Melbourne right now.... This is all I could say

14.01.2022 Our little piece of paradise. Forever changing but always beautiful! @cherry_cherry_77

12.01.2022 Spending my lockdown exercise hour teaching one of these two how to swim and one how to SUP. Blessed to have family and in my 5km.

12.01.2022 During November our Sports Therapist, Sophie, is teaching Dry Needling courses from Friday to Sunday. But rest assured! With all hands on deck at Mastering Movement, we are still open 6 days a week to make sure we can fit every one in!

12.01.2022 A nice assisted hamstring and adductor stretch that allows you to control the depth/intensity of your stretch via the use of a strap or a towel. The strap should be taught and controlled slowly with your arm. You should stop where you feel a stretch of the muscle in the muscle belly but before you feel pain. Stretching can be uncomfortable as you are lengthening a muscle (increasing the space between its attachments in the body) but it should not be painful. You may be a...ble to increase the depth of your stretch over time in a static hold as your body becomes more accustomed to your lengthened end range position. Tip: if you place the strap closer to your toes, it’s also a good calf stretch!

11.01.2022 We’ve all heard of assisted chin ups but have you heard of assisted calf raises? Great for those who struggle to do good quality reps from a lack of strength or injury. Any exercise can be regressed and made easier or progressed and made harder to suit your current abilities and what your body is capable of tolerating! How many can you do!?

10.01.2022 When he’s done with playing with his toy but doesn’t want you to put it away either.

09.01.2022 Squatting with a core deficiency that brings you forward into flexion? The counterbalance squat could help get you into a better position. This type of squat forces your core to stay active allowing you to stay more upright (closer to neutral).

08.01.2022 A huge THANK YOU to our local community for keeping Chelsea Traders afloat and supporting your local businesses during what has been a very unique year! If you're looking for something to do this sunny weekend, come down and have a chat to all the locals tomorrow, Saturday 12th, at the Kington Council's Tinsel Trail Event. Of course, it is also one for the kiddies!

07.01.2022 We Christmas! For us, Christmas means: Summer and sunshine Time spent with friends and family Slowing down and being in the moment... Families and kids spending more time outdoors And most of all, Happy people that are smiling, just because. What’s not to love about Christmas!? See more

07.01.2022 Hi Facebook world, Can you please share. Arley is missing from 8 Kurrawa Cres Patterson Lakes. She’s very friendly and it’s unlike her to wonder off... Please s...hare. Thanks everyone FOUND

07.01.2022 Then I can tell people I walk Miles every day ....

06.01.2022 The Ab Rollout and Nordic Hamstring Curl are on constant rotation this month at the clinic. Next up: work on that non existent shoulder ROM

06.01.2022 Don’t forget to get involved in the Chelsea Christmas Hunt. It’s a family friendly competition (and so are the prizes!)

05.01.2022 Leg extensions when you don’t have a gym Theraband leg extensions are a great way to isolate the quads which is an important part of rehabilitation after many knee injuries. When used in an overall leg rehabilitation program, it’s even better! ... 1. Make sure you have a good band! (We sell many forms of theraband if you can’t get your hands on any). 2. Tie the band to anything stable that you have at home (chair, bench, coffee table etc). 3. Put your foot in the band and do an extra loop around the toes to keep it in place. 4. If the band snaps, the band snaps!

05.01.2022 Making the most of our 60 minutes - rain, hail or shine. We got 2/3 today in classic Melbourne style #bayside #lovewhereyoulive

05.01.2022 Terminal Hip Extension (in kneeling) A great starting point to training the hip hinge pattern. Promotes hip flexion and extension instead of lumbar flexion and extension. Plenty of glute max recruitment (especially when feet are flat to decrease hamstring involvement).... Great exercise for those with excessive anterior hip tension. See more

04.01.2022 THE STEP UP / STEP DOWN One of my all time FAVE leg exercises! A great way to develop strength General body conditioning exercise that targets the quads, hamstrings AND glutes Isolate specific joint angles (by adjusting step height) ... Can be done body weight or with additional load Unilateral exercise which prevents the dominant side of the body cheating the non dominant side of the body through the movement - each side works equally! Tips: Unless this is just your cardio for the day, focus on a slow and controlled descent the entire way down (eccentric control). If you can’t control the entire movement, your step is too high for your current capabilities. Don’t cheat and push off with the opposite leg. The leg on the box should be doing all the work in both the step up (concentric) and step down (eccentric). I.e., no pushing off the ground with that back leg!!! We’re onto you...

03.01.2022 Remedial Massage appointments available with Michaela on Thursday and Friday evening this week. Call, text or book online!

02.01.2022 It's the Chelsea Shops Pumpkin Hunt! Are you ready? Halloween might be a little bit different this year, but the Chelsea Traders are doing it in a COVID safe way!! And of course, there’s prizes to be won! ... A great way to get everyone back shopping local, supporting our wonderful traders and celebrating Halloween! It’s simple - from Friday at midday to Saturday at 1pm, search the participating traders shop windows for a pumpkin with some letters on it. Join the letters from each shop to reveal the secret code! Post your best pics to the Chelsea shops Facebook page and present the secret code to the ‘code masters’ at the final checkpoint on Saturday between 11am and 1pm! Get your pumpkin searching shoes on!

01.01.2022 Not only is this a great core exercise that can be made as challenging or as simple as you like, it’s also a great one for coordination! If you can’t keep your back nice and still and flat on the mat, keep the arms still in the start position and just focus on the legs - The straighter and lower your legs are, the more challenging the exercise is on your core! So if legs out straight is too much, keep your knees bent and alternate dropping one foot to the floor closer to your Glutes instead. If using your opposite side arm and leg at the same time isn’t challenging enough for you, try using the same side arm and leg!

01.01.2022 A lot of people are walking around with injuries or are in pain but are tentative to book a Telehealth appointment with their Health Care Professional. In this short video our musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, Perry, explains how Telehealth works and what you can get out of it! As always, we are here for you!

01.01.2022 Happy international coffee day! Our preferred choice of liquid that you can always count on to provide an unrealistic expectation for productivity
