25.01.2022 Get a life! When I watch this clip back from my @afavoice speech back in February, I know that first and foremost I am speaking to myself. I love my work. I love speaking to clients about money. And most days I dont even mind the paperwork (not all days though...)... But there is so much more to life than just work. I have an amazing wife, friends and family. I love my sports and there are plenty of these on. And I enjoy travel too - cant wait to be able to do this again. Working hard is important, but balance is key. What is the point of gaining all of the wealth in the world if you dont get to enjoy it?

24.01.2022 How important is a financial planner for nurses? Such a great question and recently I had the privledge to be interviewed by Sue Walker, host of the Nursing and Midwifery Emporium podcast to discuss this question in more detail. To find out more go to https://nmemporium.com///29/financial-planning-for-nurses/... And if you are a nurse make sure you subscribe to their great podcast!

23.01.2022 Are you surviving or are you thriving during COVID? There are a lot of people who have lost their jobs, their income and their lifes work during this time and I feel incredibly saddened if that has happened to you. But I also know a lot of people will make a lot of money during this crisis (and Im not talking about the big pharmaceutical who discovers the cure for COVID!)... Essential workers such as teachers and nurses continue to maintain their income and I personally helping a lot of them invest during these times. Those who are able to pivot and/or continue to work online are able to thrive during this crisis. Those who were lot living paycheque to paycheque, had little or no bad debt and had cash set aside for the right opportunity are able to thrive during this crisis. If you are just surviving now, do what you need to do to get through. But know this, there will be another crisis coming. It may be another disease, it may be a financial crash, it may be a technological breadown or a industry distruption. There will be another crisis coming. So are you going to be prepared for the next crisis? Are you going to ensure that when the next crisis comes you are not just surviving it but thriving in it?

22.01.2022 THE ONE THING YOU DO NOT NEED MORE OF If you could use one word to describe todays culture, what would it be? I would use the word More.... Think Oliver Twist, where he is asking for more food (I prefer the Family Guy version of this scene). It seems everyone has become like Oliver Twist and is always asking for more Read more > https://masteryourmoneynow.com.au/the-one-thing-you-do-not/

20.01.2022 IS AUSTRALIA IN A RECESSION? Firstly, what is a recession? Economists generally agree a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), i.e. declining economic output.... Currently, Australia has not yet recorded two consecutive quarters of GDP contraction, so the technical answer is no! However, with a 0.3% fall... 20.01.2022 Nurses back - these two words send chills throughout an entire industry. Every single nurse knows that their back is so important to being able to complete their work. They also know that they are 4.5 times more likely to be forced out of work due to a back injury than a regular occupation.... I can't help you with the physical side of things, but I can help you with the financial side of things. You need to have a plan B which protects your Income in the event you are unable to work due to injury or illness. You need to have a plan B which pays out a lump sum in the event you are unable to return to work as a nurse. I would say that 95% of nurses do not have an appropriate Plan B in place. The "default" insurance cover inside their super accounts is an insult to the industry. One super provider which specialises in nurses offers default Income Protection of $850 per month or $10,200 per annum - what a disgrace! Nurses, you know this is something you need to address. If you have not got a Plan B for your back (and your overall physical health), book in for a complimentary chat so we can get something in place before it is too late. Unfortunately, by the time you start feeling that pinch in the back. by the time you start seeing a chiro or physio, it is likely to be too late... Want to know more? 19.01.2022 Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is now worth $200 billion. If you were to spend a dollar each second since the brith of Jesus Christ, youll only spend $60 billion. What makes this even more remarkable that in 2019 he had to pay a reported $38 billion to his ex-wife in the divorce.... And he is still worth $200 billion. Did Bezos make his wealth by working hard? You bet he did, he is one of the hardest working people on the planet and that work ethic is instilled in his companys culture which is one of the reasons why Amazon is worth over $1 trillion. However, there is more to it than that. After all there are plenty of people who work hard but are not worth $200 billion! I believe the key to Jeffs success (and all wealthy people for that matter) is they work not just hard, but also smart as well. In particular, they know how to leverage their income and assets. While most people only have one source of income (their job), Jeff developed multiple sources of income through his business. Then he kept hiring people to do either "menial tasks" which wasnt worth his time, or he hired "experts" who could do it better than him. Once he leveraged his time once, he did it again but at a higher level, then again and again and again. Do you think Jeff does his own tax returns, or cleans his house, or cooks his own dinner? I highly doubt it, so it begs the question why do you? Sadly, most people hate on rich people rather than learn from the clues they leave behind. Im not saying you should automatically love rich people either. It wouldnt suprise me if Jeff has done some things which would many would consider to be "unethical". The fact remains that some rich people are extremely nice and generous while some are just downright nasty and evil. But the same applies for poor people as well, it just that wealth magnifies your personality, it doesnt automaticially change it. But regardless, look for the clues that successful people leave behind. These clues can be found in podcasts, videos and books, all of which are available on Amazon...

19.01.2022 Despite all of the negativity and concern that is out there, I am seeing hope. I am seeing new businesses being formed. I am seeing new careers started.... I am seeing people take control of their lives and stop wasting time on things that don't really matter. I am seeing people realise the important things in life, like family, friends, physical health and mental health. This is the year that the world had a massive "mid life crisis" and really got back to what is important. This will be the start of a new normal. And I am so excited for it!

18.01.2022 Whats Your Greatest Expense?

18.01.2022 You have the tools already at your disposal to build your wealth and to Master Your Money Now. But are you using them? Do you know how to use them?... Have you ever been taught how to use them? Most people get frustrated because they cant move forward with their finances. In my experience, most people have the tools but they just dont know how to use them. Sometimes a simple adjustment and financial advice will help you move forward.

18.01.2022 Reposting this from six months ago, for those who are in Victoria who are going through lockdown again, stay strong, we will get through this!

18.01.2022 Right now, what is the biggest risk that your superannuation/investments are faced with? Governments printing money? Threat of a drop in the sharemarket? Interest rates too low? Or is the media?... Financial planners work really hard to put you in a position where you feel confident and then seconds later the media sends a tidal wave of distractions, riddled with fear because...it works. Just a community announcement (reminder) that most medias objective is to sell advertising space. They will do whatever it takes to get you to come back again tomorrow. Fear is a very effective strategy. Helping you is not their priority, advertisers are, so take everything they say with a grain of salt. They dont know what the future holds any better than you or me. #noforecasting Reshared from Matthew Ross, with permission.

13.01.2022 Do something different

12.01.2022 I would always advocate for increasing your income where possible as it makes it far easier to increase your ability to save and invest. But is definitely not a guarantee. I have met people who cannot live off $200,000 per annum. No joke!... Higher income doesnt always equate to more wealth. But it does help!

11.01.2022 What does it mean to be a Master Of Money? A Master of Money is someone who makes the decisions about their money and not let money make decisions for them. Have you ever decided not to go to that social event because it cost too much?... Have your kids missed out because you didn't have the funds to pay for them? Are you struggling to make it from paycheck to paycheck? Money is making the decisions about your life for you. Money is mastering you. You need to make a conscious decision to reverse this. You need a plan to take back control of your finances. You need to declare that you will become a Master of Money. Want to know more? Go to www.masteryourmoneynow.com.au

10.01.2022 What is your greatest asset? It is not money. It is not your talent.... It is not your education. It is not your friends and family. It is not your physical or mental health (although these are a close second). What is your greatest asset? Time. Time is a finite resource that you are running out of. So why are you spending your time in jobs that you hate, sacrificing quality time with your friends and family, at the detriment of your physical and mental health? Why do you do things yourself when you can pay someone else to do it for you? When you DIY something, you are not saving money, you are wasting time. Flip this mindset around and start saving time and ""wasting"" money (even if in my view that anything that saves time is not a waste of money). Money you can get back, time you cannot. 09.01.2022 THIS IS HAPPENING!!! I was shocked when I saw the 3% barrier broken last year, but now the 2% barrier has been broken Im just completely stunned as to how cheap debt is. This is a reputable mid-tier lender who (conveniently for me) specialise in teachers and nurses. But you dont need to be a teacher or a nurse to take advantage of this offer. If your income hasnt been impacted by COVID, you may be able to take advantage of this offer.... If you have a $300,000 loan and you reduce your interest rate by 1% that will save you $60 per week or $3,000 per annum in interest. T&Cs apply - DM me to find out more

09.01.2022 HOW DO WE HELP TEACHERS TEACH FINANCIAL LITERACY? There is plenty of talk at the moment that we should be teaching financial literacy in schools. It sounds great in theory, but let’s take a moment and think of the teachers.... Teachers are under so much pressure at the moment. Paperwork, lesson plans, regulation, dealing with parents and professional development is leading to a teaching workforce that is highly stressed, burnt out and extremely time-poor. 07.01.2022 I was recently listening to a @timferriss interview and one of the questions he asks a lot is "What book would you give out as gift to people?" Such a fascinating question for me as I love books, but rarely give them out as gifts (confession, I am terrible for buying gifts for people!) But if I could gift one book to anyone, it would be "Lifes Golden Ticket" by @brendonburchard.... It is a story about a man going through "the theme park of life" to discover the gifts and the choices abailable to him and how he was trapped in a prison of his past and limiting beliefs. When I read this book through for the first time a few years ago, I confess I teared up multiple times (#sook). A few things had happened and I was in a bad headspace, but I fel that this book was the right book for me at the right time. And I would highly encourage it to anyone. And if it is your birthday coming up, I may buy it for you as a gift :-P

07.01.2022 As a Victorian outside of COVID lockdown watching the shockingly high number of COVID cases continuing to climb (although the numbers do seem to be flattening out) my heart goes out to the nurses, doctors, aged care workers and other healthcare professionals who are dealing with this pandemic daily. Then I also see these proverbial "Karens" trying to justify their own selfishness and stupidity not to wear a mask, adding considerable and unnecessary angst to healthcare staff, ...police, retail workers and the community at large. I have a major issue with small minded people who care more about their "rights" than their "responsibilities". These people are being called out on social media for their small minded idiocy and rightfully so. Claims that wearing a mask is "a breach of human rights" is offensive to those who are genuinely suffering from genuine human rights abuses across the world. There are many reasons why their logic is flawed, but I think this graphic summarises it best. Please continue to support our healthcare workers, our education profession and the community at large to get on top of this pandemic so we can return back to normality as soon as possible.

06.01.2022 Do you want to be paid more for your time and expertise and not be viewed as the cheapest? Then stop doing it to other people! This is karma.... If you are gloating to your friends and family that you got something cheaper elsewhere, don't complain when the same thing happens to you. This applies from mattresses to mortgages from school fees to sneakers. If you constantly try to get the cheapest on everything, to haggle down deals and to get discounts, the same thing will happen to you. People will pass on your services because they found someone or something cheaper. Furthermore, the ""cheapest"" often costs you more in the long run, perhaps not financially but certainly on service and time. As an example, I don't care how cheap your super fund is, if it takes 30 minutes for them to pick up the phone (which most cheap funds do) then I won't work with them. Pay the extra 0.1-0.2% and get half an hour of your time back. Am I saying always go for the most expensive option? No I am not, there is balance to this. However, I think most everyday Australians are pinching pennies and missing millions. Stop looking for the cheapest and start looking for the best value... Want to know more? 05.01.2022 I have a lot of clients who are first home buyers. I have a lot of connections who are real estate agents. I follow a lot of buyers advocates.... And for the first time I can remember they are all saying the same thing. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH PROPERTIES ON THE MARKET AT THE MOMENT. Doesnt matter if it is Geelong, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra, Tasmania or whereever, there is simply not enough properties for sale. Those that are on the market are going at or above expectations. If you are thinking about selling, reach out to a real estate agent and see what some of your options are. I am predicting in Melbourne and Geelong that in mid-September (once lockdown is over) there will be a flood of properties going on sale. Spring is usually when the property market runs hot and with lockdowns finishing (I hope) which may be a good time to sell. And if you are in Geelong and have a house for sale suitable for first home buyers, feel free to DM me as I have some keen buyers who are interested.

05.01.2022 3 weeks ago, I completed my first gym session in a very long time (gyms have been shut down in Victoria due to lockdowns). My wife often "reminds" me that it shows I haven't been to the gym in a long time #COVID15 I hate gyms. I hate exercise. I hate working out.... I never understood the pleasure of exhausting yourself again and again and again and again. Hence why I need a personal trainer (and a wife) to kick me up the backside to keep me accountable. The thing with exercise though is that I must do the work. I can't outsource my pushups and squats to someone else. Thankfully, you can with your finances. I know a lot of people who hate money and feel the same dread with their finances as I do with exercise. The good news is though is you don't have to do all of your finances yourself! You can pay someone else to do it! Sure there is 10% that you will need to do, but 90% you can outsource. I know I need to get physically fit. You know you need to get financially fit. Getting financially fit is far easier than getting physically fit.

04.01.2022 Most people forget that the greatest asset they have is time. Time is a resource which is limited and does not come back. So why are you wasting time in a job you hate, with people you dont like and in situations that make you uncomfortable?... Sadly, most of us exchange time for money in a JOB (Just Over Broke) for 40-50 years and never get off the hamster wheel. That is what your life will be unless you have a plan and take delibrate action to be different. Your life is your choice. You can choose to work harder and smarter for 5 to 10 years to get ahead, or live paycheque to paycheque for the rest of your life. What do you choose?

This is why I am so passionate about working with millenials. The more you do in your 20s and 30s, you are going to be far ahead than those who get started in their 40s, 50s and 60s....
