21.01.2022 Meet John Hustler - Mater Theatre Orderly. John has worked for the Mater Private Hospital Rockhampton for 34 years. He works as a orderly in the Operating Theatre. John started his career at Mater on 3 February, 1986, and worked on Level 3 in the Medical and H.D.U. Ward. After a few months, he was sent down to theatre to relieve the inside Orderly who was on holidays, and he has not left theatre since. John loves going to work, and what he enjoys most about being an orderly ...is looking after the patients and learning new things. His most memorable moment as an orderly is achieving the milestone of working at Mater for 34 years, and loving it. He sites his biggest challenge faced to date was when he started to do a Field Education Course Operating Theatre Tech Cert III in Health Services. He also remembers the challenges associated with how quickly he had to learn when he moved from Medical and High Dependency and started working in theatre. See more

17.01.2022 Today we celebrate Mercy Day, the anniversary of the day on which the founder of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley, established the House of Mercy in Baggot Street, Dublin in 1827. Mercy Day is a time for us to pause and reflect on the true meaning of mercy. Each interaction, whether with a colleague or patient, presents an opportunity to demonstrate mercy in action and continue the traditions of the Sisters of Mercy.
17.01.2022 Meet Maters Kerrie Bielenberg Administrative Assistant Executive Suite Kerrie joined Mater in January 2006, after working in Government roles for 20 years. As Administrative Assistant, her role involves credentialling doctors, co-ordinating volunteers, and providing recruitment and administrative support to the Executive team. The Mater values of unity, family, support and compassion are important to Kerrie and reflect her personal values and worth ethic.... The best advice that Kerrie has ever received is to always be kind to everyone, and treat others as you wish to be treated. If Kerrie could invite any two people to dinner from any place or time, they would be her late Great Nan and her Nan - two women who influenced her life and she admires greatly. She loved their wit, humour, independence, talking with them and listening to their stories. Both were also amazing cooks and lived interesting and full lives. One thing people may not know about Kerrie is that in the 90s, she was an entrant in the Miss Australia Quest in Rockhampton, to raise funds for the Cerebral Palsy League. The three words that best describe Kerrie are caring, loyal and diligent, her favourite author is Diana Gabaldon; her volumes are now the Outlander series, and the best live show she has ever been to was ACDCs Brisbane concert in the pouring rain. Kerrie recently celebrated her 50th birthday, and had a beautiful sapphire her parents found when she was a child set into a ring, which is immensely sentimental to her.

14.01.2022 The community lies at the very heart of what we do. The Sisters of Mercy built Mater on the spirit of giving and it’s this tradition that continues today to help us meet the needs of the community. Mater Private Hospital Rockhampton invites local community members to nominate to participate in our Consumer Partnership Committee, who provide feedback on various aspects of our organisation. The Committee has the purpose of engaging with patients, families, and consumers... in the planning, design, delivery, measurement, and evaluation of the care we provide our patients. The position is voluntary, with meetings occurring bi-monthly for two hours. We meet face to face, however, dial-in is available. If you are interested please contact Susie Le Brasse at [email protected] or telephone our Executive Secretary on 0749313486. Mater values your input to ensure we continue to be relevant to the community in which we are here to serve.

11.01.2022 Meet Gail Schneider Manager - Mater Linen Services You only need sit and chat to Gail Schneider for a minute or so, to gain an immediate appreciation for the compassion and dedication she has for every member of her team. As Manager of Mater Linen Services, this inspirational woman puts her staff and the community first, without a moments hesitation. Gails career with Mater started in hospitality in 1993 where in short years became a supervisor, before taking the role as ma...nager at Mater Linen Services on 24th January, 2011. She recalls fondly how blessed and humbled she was to have been given the opportunity to travel with other Mater staff, to Ireland for the Catherine McAuley pilgrimage a few years ago. The Mater values Gail considers most important are being positive, selfless and having genuine care for one another. She would not ask someone to do something she wouldnt do herself, and to be able to spark joy in the community through Adopt a family initiatives and even the simple act of buying Christmas gifts for those less fortunate. A couple of quotes that Gail cites as her favourites are to be be fair no matter what you do, and a leader is only as good as their team. When asked to describe herself in a couple of words, Gail chose positive, outgoing, loyal and compassionate. She believes these traits came from her Mum who passed away two years ago. Gail admired her mothers tenacity and how kind and caring she was. The most sentimental item she owns is her Mums engagement ring that is very special to her. When she manages to find time to relax, Gail likes to read (Bryce Courtenays April Fools Day is a fave) she loves to spend time at home, walking and spending time with her 4 grandchildren. One day soon she hopes to go hot air ballooning and tick it off her bucket list.
