24.01.2022 This rear extension integrates into the design the significant 21.5m Eucalyptus tree located in close proximity to the house. Careful consideration was put into the form and materiality of the extension in order to complement the existing heritage architecture wile adding greatly to the liability to this family home. 21.01.2022 Celebrating the history of Monaro Mall, the approach to this project was to look back at the city’s post-war modernist influences to inform the new design, reinterpreting them in a contemporary, yet timeless manner. A new double height entry to Petrie Plaza with proportions of civic generosity has been carved out of the building, drawing influence from the David Jones City Walk entry. The façade was faithfully restored and pared with new timber windows and doors. We created a new covered outdoor living space overlooking the pool with a direct connection to the main house. This project was all about the collaboration between the existing and the new. 01.01.2022 Originally opened in 1963, it has been much loved and was significant in the development of Canberra. The mall had undergone many changes from its initial built form with little internally remaining. However although the scope of the project was significant, the existing building structure was intentionally retained and the facades of marble and mosaic tile carefully restored.
