25.01.2022 Another day, another pitch! Weve been invited to Melbourne at the end of November to present our solution to Ballarat, Whittlesea and Casey councils in Victoria. The Brief? "Were interested in solutions that can help our community create more sustainable households and reduce the amount of waste that they produce. Such solutions may include, but would not be limited to, data analytics, artificial intelligence, online platforms, logistics and social impact platforms."... https://springboardchallenge.collectivecampus.io/

24.01.2022 Like most businesses and start-ups, the team at Matter #wastematters have spent the past month reviewing the business to adjust to the new world with Covid-19. Our thoughts are with all the people, communities and families who are struggling through this difficult period. While we all know this time will pass, we recognise the impacts right now are monumental; this is not business or life as usual. Here at Matter, were using this time to polish our tech, refine our stakehold...er processes and engage remotely with investors, councils and business. The burden of waste continues to be a significant issue for communities and environments globally and we remain committed to being a part of the solution. Meanwhile, part of our start-up journey this year was to establish a culture of best-practice across everything we do, including the way we engage and communicate with our stakeholders. Our new website is the first step in this space. Please jump on, wed love your feedback. www.matter.city

21.01.2022 Ring the bell! Matter is thrilled to announce the award of its first competitive tender with the City of Casey in Victoria today to supply smart waste sensors within the community public space bins. The contract will give the City of Casey access to innovative real-time data and software that will help improve waste collection efficiencies, lower costs and reduce litter across key public spaces. Well done team, great effort!

16.01.2022 Our friends at the Western Metropolitan Regional Council are hosting two FREE webinars via Zoom next week as part of their Waste Watchers program. If you live in the western suburbs of Perth and are interested in understanding how your household can both reduce its waste and recycle right, this event is for you!

14.01.2022 Did you know that Australians waste an average 298kg of food per capita every year and 87% of household food waste goes to landfill? The greenhouse gases produced by food waste in Australian landfill each year is equivalent to the emissions of Australias steel and iron ore industries combined! Check out this great Food Waste Greenhouse Gas Calculator created by Dianne McGrath.... 298kg of food waste = 50 days of electricity consumption for one household = 5 tanks of petrol (250L) = 566kg of CO2-e. Play here: https://watchmywaste.com.au/food-waste-greenhouse-gas-calc/ Matters residential smart sensors are designed to capture personal waste data at the source, giving people the information to make better choices when it comes to buying, consuming and throwing away.

13.01.2022 Presenting our technology to fellow delegates at @climate.kic last weekend

13.01.2022 Merry Christmas from all at Matter! Last year it was our dream to create the smallest and most feature-packed waste sensor in Australia. This year we not only have them but realised they make a cool Christmas pic! ... Prize to the first person to find one on a public space bin in WA, grab a pic and tag us... #wastematters

12.01.2022 Along with some familiar faces from the WA startup scene, we were invited to the magnificent US Consulate building in Perth this morning, as part of their hard work on convening the game-changers from this part of the world who can make an impact across the pond. Thanks to the US Consulate General for hosting. We forward to actively remaining a part of this exciting cohort! #wastematters

12.01.2022 300 followers in a couple of weeks! Thanks to you all for sharing our journey. Fantastic engagements with 3 more councils last week about public space waste sensing trials with more exciting conversations on the horizon. Looking forward to having the production of our first sensor this week - as far as we know the smallest and most cost effective waste sensor in the world! - ready for our first pilot in Stirling (WA). ... The team are also looking forward to a cheeky trip to Margaret River to explore waste sensing options in the region and the waste conference in Melbourne this week. Watch this space for updates!

12.01.2022 How does #behaviourchange work? We found this interesting mindmap on the Waste Authority of Western Australia website that highlights many of the principles we are using to develop our household waste app which will be trialled here in WA next year. #feedbackloop #incentivisation #reward #wastematters #circulareconomy

11.01.2022 What a privilege it was to pitch to some of the most esteemed members of the Australian waste industry at the Whose WARR Is It Anyway? Waste and Recycling Conference in Perth. Up against some strong competition, we managed to pick up 2 Sharks in the pitch! Additionally, our message about using technology to create compound behavioural change resonated with others from the industry whom we are looking forward to working with in the weeks and months ahead. The theme of th...is years Conference was chosen to reflect the need for all stakeholders to work together and take responsibility for action. The Minister for Environment Hon. Stephen Dawson emphasised the importance of partnership and working together Local Government, industry, Government and the community to reduce waste generation and maximise resource recovery. The Minister also identified the high priority that Government has given waste management with one of the States 12 priorities being waste education. #wastematters

05.01.2022 How has COVID-19 changed the way communities manage their waste? From increased residential waste to a decrease in public space and commercial waste, what were currently experiencing has significant impacts on the way local government councils maintain efficient and smart urban planning. Find out how Matter can help waste managers to adjust simply by having the real-time data of exactly where their resources need to be and when.... www.matter.city/solutions

05.01.2022 C O M P O S T A B L E Keep-cups still off the menu due to #covid19 at one of our favourite coffee spots in Perth, but great to see theyve brought in fully compostable cups and lids to lessen the environmental impact of the restrictions. 04.01.2022 Beautiful morning in Sydney doing the #coogeetobondi walk. Even found time to talk to the boys from @randwickcouncil about smart waste collection initiatives #wastematters

04.01.2022 With most cafes not currently accepting KeepCups, why not say no to the plastic takeaway lid to help reduce your personal waste. Most disposable cups are lined with plastic so they either contaminate recycling or end up in landfill. It might not be a perfect interim solution, but everyone making small changes certainly helps! 03.01.2022 Our start-up journey gets more exciting each day and last week we were privileged to share our unfolding story with the talented and inspiring Belinda Heit from Ethical Change Agency. Managing Director, Martin McGinty, talked about why we believe our sensor technology will be a game-changer for waste managers and Councils across Australia, as well as our bold plans to change waste behaviours within the home. Grab a cuppa, have a listen and please share with your networks. ... Kind thanks to Belinda for your support.

03.01.2022 Were thrilled to be selected to pitch alongside 14 other #techforgood startups later today as part of the regional Extreme Tech Challenge. Inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals #SDGs, the XTC supports and showcases innovators from across the world that are harnessing the power of technology to address the greatest challenges facing humanity and our planet. Best of luck to our co-founder, Blake Cassidy - go get em!

03.01.2022 Fantastic early validation for Matter as we sneaked through to the national finals of the Climate-KIC Australia initiative at the #ClimateLaunchpad pitch last night against some pretty stiff competition. Looking forward to representing WA on the national stage alongside Louise Edmonds from Regenerate Australia in October. Congrats to the extended Matter team Len Luxford, Steve Asher, Blake Cassidy, Rowan Logie and Mark Lockett. ... Thanks to Leslie Delaforce & Dr Vanessa Rauland and the other mentors and judges. 02.01.2022 Wouldnt it be great if everyone had the ability to measure, track and reduce their waste, just as they do with water, gas and electricity?

02.01.2022 You can now drop off polystyrene for recycling in Perth

02.01.2022 If not now, then when? If not us, then who?
