19.01.2022 I have often pondered the question How much influence over our results do we REALLY have? I would like to imagine it is 100% (because I think it is the most helpful belief).... But the forever sceptical scientist in me struggles. SoI have started to collect stories that demonstrate the amazing power people CAN have over their results. One such story starts with 2 B:B sales trainers. Sales trainer 1 tells me that B:B sales are down 50% and that demand for his services have plummeted. Insert more detail and drama here Sales trainer 2 was swept off her feet with new business. Each time I spoke with her (about how awesome her VA is) she had secured a new gig or few. So, I quizzed her. I shared with her the difference I had observed. And she said. Carmen, its because I am doing the work. She had been out there in the preceding months and years marketing herself, building relationships and really working it. She then went on to clearly describe her point of difference and value proposition). In her mind, she was getting clients because of the work she had put in and the value that she created. She is a force to be reckoned with and nothing was stopping her. What is the overall reality, I find my mind thinking? Is B:B spending really down 50%. But then againdoes it matter?

12.01.2022 I can only imagine how painfully difficult it is to leave your family behind in search for greener pastures to support the very same family that you are leaving in the first place. Imagine not being with them for months or years let alone not being able to see your kids or siblings grow. This is real. And this is happening to many women and men in the Philippines and in many countries around the world. VA work opportunities allow my team to be with their families while at the same time be able to work and support themselves, their families and their communities.

12.01.2022 In this day and age, I think that one of the most important skills is continuous learning. This pandemic has taught to us that a lot of what we used to know has to be unlearned in order to cope with the new normal. As a business owner myself, I always bear in mind that when hiring a person (VA or In-house), we should put equal weight on the candidates ... But, now with the restriction of the 60min cap they cant get their long runs in (I know, I used to think it was crazy that people to choose to run this long as well).... And you know what...I have not detected one even little public grizzle. Instead they are getting on with it.... -Sharing information on what treadmill to buy -Discussing shorter high intensity run strategies And my personal favorite... -Joining forces and doing virtual zoom long runs/walks/whatever you can do in your house to get moving. The mindset of these people is just awesome. Who needs drama and conspiracies when you have runners in your life. Tag a runner you know.

07.01.2022 I remember when I was about 13 and my Dad turned to me and said "Carmen, the world is not black and white". What?! I quickly discounted my Dads frustrated assertion and fell back on my teenage belief that I knew everything anyway.... But, as I have experienced more and more. I have come to understand that...wait for it...Dad was sharing something really valuable. There is SO much grey in this world. And there is often not a right answer. And EVEN if an answer is right it is probably only under a set of very specific conditions. As I began to understand this, I felt unsteady as my certainty fell away. Its only more recently that I have become to not only accept the grey, but have grown to appreciate it. I have started to see that recognising the grey facilitates creativity, empathy and connection. How the tables have turned. Now its me that gets frustrated when people see things as black and white when I see grey.

06.01.2022 I am very proud of the dynamics and the relationship that we have established amongst our team of VAs. Undeniably, some may argue that it is bad for the economy, e.i. shipping opportunities outside Australia. But I look at our business model at a grander scale. Everyday, thousands of women (and men) in countries like the Philippines are forced to work abroad just to meet both ends. Mind you, some of the conditions of these overseas jobs are very dismal to say the least. And y...et they flee for greener pastures even at the expense of not being able to see their loved ones for years or not seeing their children grow. Providing VA opportunities to my team, allows them to be with their family while laboriously helping me run and grow our business. In return, as the business grows, I would like to believe that I have helped the economy by contributing more taxes that will eventually go to infrastructures and many other government projects. 05.01.2022 Sometimes The Low Tech Option Wins

05.01.2022 I had a client - VA relationship FAIL today. And it was my fault. When a client - VA relationship does not work out, people are quick to blame the VA. But as they say it takes two to tango and in this case, three. I allowed myself to get swept up in the clients urgency for support. Instead of finding her two people to meet and have a chat as part of our hiring process, I skipped all that. I introduced her to one awesome person I know and she had her great VA! ... During week one, instead of firmly telling the client that she needed to speak with him face-to-face for at least 15 min a day (like you would so with any new recruit)I got swept away in her busyness once again. They communicated primarily by email instead. These seemingly harmless shortcuts in the name of efficiency came to bite us on the backside. The VA was frustrated and uncertain, and the client was not getting the output she wanted. It just did NOT work. My learnings? Sometimes the (slightly) longer way is actually quicker in the end. And it is my job to guide the VA and the CLIENT around what I know works. PS: We have worked out a plan for both parties to gracefully part ways. And this time I am helping them get it right. (*insert sigh & relief, )
