17.01.2022 Malthus’ Population Prediction Population increases in a geometric progression, while food production increases in arithmetic progression. Thus population grew faster than food production and tended to outstrip it in a short time.

13.01.2022 5 REASONS WHY YOU MUST ATTEND! You may have seen the announcement that our annual conference is now open for registration! We have an amazing line-up over the t...hree day program, and hope that many of you that usually join us will be there with us again either in person or virtually. It's a wonderful time to not only support MAWA, but to learn together, and connect with peers! We need your support now to make the 2020 WA Annual Conference a success! Here are 5 reasons you must attend: 1. You have already saved the date, so you may as well attend face-to-face or virtually 2. We have two awesome keynote speakers 3. Plus over 70 face-to-face and 30 virtual sessions over the 3 days! 4. Enjoy networking opportunities and giveaways 5. Support our sponsors and exhibitors who will be available to discuss your school needs The added benefit of a virtual event is that location is not a barrier, which means that our regional educators throughout Western Australia are able to attend without travel costs and time. It also provides a great opportunity to access quality PL for interstate educators too! We are very excited that we are able to support maths educators during this time with such a high quality event. To register, head to https://mawainc.org.au/2020-wa-annual-maths-conference/.

10.01.2022 The third and final day of the 2020 WA Annual Maths Conference was definitely a highlight With 320 delegates from all over WA and about 40 online delegates joining us, we are pumped we were able to deliver another fantastic conference! A special thanks to our sponsors, exhibitors and presenters. Without their support a conference like this is simply not possible. A shout out to Amie Albrecht and James Russo. Whilst we would have much preferred to have them in WA, they both did an incredible job of delivering their keynotes virtually. We hope to welcome you all to our WA Annual Maths Conference in 2021.

10.01.2022 MTANT Webinar Series 2020 REGISTER NOW - http://tiny.cc/mtant-webinars This is MTANT’s first foray into hosting a webinar series, drawing on high profile presenters from around Australia. MTANT also welcomes participation by teachers from other areas of Australia.... Sessions will be scheduled to be delivered via Zoom on Thursdays, 3:15 pm for a 3:30 pm start (NT time). MTANT recognises the membership of interstate Maths Association members, and will offer the webinars at members’ rates. Most sessions have a cost of $5 for Maths Association members, or $30 per session for non-members ($15 / $40 for one of the sessions, for which resources will be posted to you). Northern Territory teachers members can take out a membership via http://mtant.weebly.com. Participants will be sent the Zoom link, once they have registered, and made payment. 07.01.2022 The Cheryl Praeger Mathematics Academy for Girls at Joseph Banks Secondary College has a challenge for all the "maths lovers" out there: "How many four-digit n...umbers containing no zeros have the property that whenever any one of the four digits is removed the resulting three digit number is divisible by 3?" Please post your answers! Thank you, Miss Kelly Tempest, for mentoring your younger peers to be the best they can be! You are truly fantastic! 06.01.2022 Pi Irrational Walk In 1888, the logician John Venn (who also invented the "Venn diagram") attempted to visually show that the digits of pi were random by drawin...g a graph showing the first 707 decimal places. He assigned a compass point to the digits 0 to 7 and then drew lines to show the path indicated by each digit. Venn did this work using pen and paper but this is still used today with modern technology to create even more detailed and beautiful patterns. Venn writes in his book "The Logic of Chance": "Of these, after omitting 8 and 9, there remain 568; the diagram represents the course traced out by following the direction of these as the clue to our path. Many of the steps have of course been taken in opposite directions twice or oftener. The result seems to me to furnish a very fair graphical indication of randomness. I have compared it with corresponding paths furnished by rows of figures taken from logarithmic tables, and in other ways, and find the results to be much the same." See more
