24.01.2022 Businesses: With disaster season upon us it’s important to be prepared for what could happen. If you’ve changed your business address, associates, activity or contact details recently, update your ABN details at www.abr.gov.au//Updating-or-cance/Update-your-ABN-details/

20.01.2022 Each tax time, there are always a few tax myths floating around. One of the most common? That everyone can automatically claim work-related expenses up to a cer...tain value. Read on as we set the record straight Myth: Everyone can claim $300 for work-related expenses, including $150 for work clothes or laundry, and 5,000km worth of car expenses. Fact: Not quite true! There’s no automatic entitlement in order to claim a work-related expense, you must have actually spent the money. And while some claims don’t require up-front evidence, you must be able to demonstrate the expenses relate to earning your income and how you calculated the claims. If you’re not sure what you can claim or how to calculate your deductions, read our info at www.ato.gov.au//Income-and-deduct/Deductions-you-can-claim or chat with a registered tax agent.

18.01.2022 Myth: myGovID and myGov are one and the same I won’t need both! Fact: myGov and myGovID might sound similar, but they’re not the same: myGov is a secure wa...y to access Australian government services online including our Online services for individuals and sole traders. myGovID is the app you download to your smart device to verify your identity when logging in to our online services including the Business Portal. In the future, you’ll be able to use the myGovID app to log in to your myGov account. Find out more at www.ato.gov.au//Accessing-online-services-with-myGovID-an/

10.01.2022 Employers: What do apprentices, trainees, labourers and trades assistants all have in common? Apart from being great at finding the ‘stripy’ paint, ‘elbow’ grea...se and ‘long weights’ they’re always employees, never contractors. Even if your workers have an ABN, you’ll risk charges and penalties for your business if you incorrectly treat them as a contractor. You’ll need to meet the same tax and super obligations for these employees as you do for any others in your business. Find more info by visiting www.ato.gov.au/Business/Your-workers/Employee---checklist/
