04.01.2022 From Hat Tricks to Knock Offs and Mo Mo Dumplings The banter between Aussies and Canadians is really quite funny. Sport seems to always be an equaliser when it comes to building rapport between two countries that have many similarities. So apparently Sri Lanka is a really shit cricket team. Apparently its quite easy to see what is amateur cricket eg. IPL compared to international matches. Can you believe the term Hat Tricks is also used in Ice Hockey to mean 3 goals in a ...match. Hmmm a little different to our cricket definition. I arrived in Katmandu late last night and wow what a contrast to India. Armed with a bottle of Bombay Sapphire and two cans of tonic, I have had one of my most memorable days of my trip. Just some advice before visiting this very friendly country. You will stay at 5200 feet above sea level which takes a little adjustment especially if you have lived on a semi vegetarian diet for 11 days. You will feel tired and weary as you acclimitise to this new level of air pressure. Having said that I feel super fit, detoxed and cleansed physically from lack of red meat and heaps of vegies and chillies, gigantic steps and walking till I drop days. In comparison to the hilarity of India, Nepal is a very friendly place. The air is crisp and everything seems to be working at the hotel so far so good. We even have an infinity pool overlooking the Himalayan foothills, which is pretty special as is; the help yourself beer fridge on the roof top floor. Its a bit like a communal mini bar, which is quaint and totally relaxing as you take in the atmosphere of the mountains. PS . Did I mention Katmandu is also the home of the North Face brand name knock off. Picked up a great jacket today for $35 bucks; new season and all. Will so fit in with that crowd in Thredbo this year. I'd also suggest that you save your pennies for Nepal before purchasing souvenirs and handicrafts. There is some absolutely amazing stuff to buy here and you wont feel accosted by the dreaded hawker society which I am sure George Orwell predicted....or did he. So as my Canadian friends relish in the atmosphere of watching IPL highlights, I continue my journey in the Himalayas with plenty of Mo Mo dumplings to soak that most glorious G & T down minus the lemon, because I don't trust any raw food in this part of the world.
