24.01.2022 When was the last time you did a closet cleanse or truly considered whether the space in which you house your clothes and belongings truly serves who you are and the lifestyle you lead right now? How much of what you keep do you really use? Often we hold onto items that we don't often use or wear or keep pieces that don't fit us at all because of the stories and memories associated with them - stories and memories associated with our past and who we were. What's important to... remember is we should treasure the person we have become because of those memories and hold onto that rather than hold onto those pieces that no longer align with who we are in the present moment. Reorganising your space is an empowering exercise when it comes to your personal style as it allows you to change your perspective, create a sense of practically and sustainability and let go of what no longer serves you. A Wardrobe Rejuvenation Package with Maya & Peacock will help you create an environment that serves who you are and the lifestyle you lead right now. 24.01.2022 Planning a day of shopping to update your wardrobe? Or perhaps you’ve saved a bit of money during the lockdown and are now looking to purchase some investment pieces with Black Friday deals? One of my favourite tips to achieve a successful shopping experience is to set the intent pre-shop. Consider your existing wardrobe first by assessing what gaps need to be filled or whether there are any pieces that need to be replaced because they are damaged or don’t fit you any longer.... This way, you’re shopping with intention and more likely to buy pieces that will serve you for some time to come. Also, have something to eat, make sure you’re well-rested, and in a good mood. When we’re in a state of ‘lack’ while we’re shopping, we tend to spend more and purchase things impulsively. Look after yourself before you hit the shopping strip! Want more tips and tricks for your next shopping trip? Check out my blog on Shopping 101 to learn more about shopping with intent. Tap the link in bio!

21.01.2022 Working with personal style, the topic of ‘trends’ comes up often. Think about the trends that have heavily influenced fashion - shoulder pads, punk, fitness, logos, street style. It’s easy to say that trends come and go, but it’s true that we still get sucked into them. And that’s okay! At the end of the day, as long as we establish classic staples for our wardrobe that can act as great, versatile bases for outfits, we can still indulge in some seasonal trends without feeling too guilty.

20.01.2022 Just be you! Some of the simplest, yet most important advice. Sometimes it’s the most seemingly straightforward advice that can pack the most impact, don’t you think?

19.01.2022 I often get asked about how often you should update your wardrobe and the truth is, as much as style is grounded in our true self and authentic voice, our styles can also evolve over time. As we get older and wiser, as we go through transformations in life whether in our career, lifestyle, body shape, mental health etc, we always evolve and our stories change. Our message to the world changes. It’s in these key moments that there’s an even bigger need to be our best selves by... shifting to an outward expression of our inner voice. Our clothing is the powerful tool that serves this purpose because the clothing we wear is transformative and has the power to trigger positive shifts in our journey. So when your wardrobe no longer speaks to who you are and what you love, then it’s time for an update. Want to get in touch to talk more about your style journey and expressing your story through your own personal style? Drop me a DM for an obligation free chat!

19.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday Florals, for Spring? Groundbreaking We all know that famous line from Meryl Streep The Devil Wears Prada, but what were the origins of florals in fashion?... They can be traced back to 12th century China, where nature scapes and flowery scenes were embroidered onto garments. By the end of the century, floral embroidery was seen on Japanese kimonos and throughout the Middle East. Are you a fan of florals in your wardrobe, or indifferent to the print?

19.01.2022 Now that Maya & Peacock is settled in Melbourne, layering has become more important than ever when it comes to pulling together looks - we have 4 seasons in 1 day, right?! So we need to be prepared! For a 90s throwback, try styling a spaghetti strap dress over a snug fit tee - play with different textures or colours for a youthful update. 19.01.2022 The Pantone Colour Institute announced 2021's colour of the year to be a marriage of different elements coming together, conveying messages of strength, warmth, dependability and hopefulness. Two colours were selected - Bright 'Illuminating' representing cheerfulness and optimism, perfectly balanced by emboldened 'Ultimate grey' emphasizing the importance of a firm foundation and the need to feel grounded, particularly relevant after the year we've all experienced. In ad...dition, Pantone announced the SS20/21 Colour Palette (NYFW) highlighting tones which inspire feelings of comfort and relaxation and sparks of energy and encouragement: - Marigold - Cerulean - Rust - Illuminating - French blue - Green ash - Burnt Coral - Mint - Amethyst orchid - Rasberry Sorbet Feeling encouraged and uplifted is essential to the human spirit. While you may or may not find these two standout colours appealing, or featuring heavily in your closet, what's key is to understand that when it comes to loving your personal style, you should wear the colours that inspire the feelings that make you look and feel your best, colours that suit your skin tone, and those that integrate into your existing wardrobe to give you even more outfit choices that represent who you are. via @pinterest and @adobestock See more

19.01.2022 Is there a science to style? I love this classic Coco quote, because it encourages us to see fashion from the perspective of shape and balance. There are a few simple styling tricks you can keep in mind when putting together your own looks, but one of the easiest to remember is to ensure a balanced silhouette. Balance is influenced by a few factors including texture and proportion - combining different materials, considering fabric content, and the use of prints and patterns.... It’s also about creating cohesion between structure and flow. There’s a visual depth to any ensemble when the individual pieces speak to each other, even through their differences. If you’re trying a loose fitting top, a slim-cut jean will complement this better than a wide-cut boyfriend jean. Conversely, a loose flowing skirt is going to look better with a fitted top rather than an oversized one. What about pairing a tee with a suit to dress down the formality with a bit of casual? Do you give much thought to whether your outfit is balanced?

18.01.2022 Warm brown-toned leathers are gorgeous for transseasonal looks, and I’m especially loving these luxe high-waisted leather trousers. As the focus on sustainable fabrics grows, using neutral tones in leathers taps into a more rustic and minimal approach to dressing - try clean aesthetics and high quality materials to create a more sustainable wardrobe. Add more personality with a pop of colour - with a pop of colour, this fun and retro-inspired outfit can brighten any day.

18.01.2022 Thinking back to this lovely shoot I worked on recently and how I enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of the silence, sunset and all the country feels. In addition to helping people express themselves and feel more empowered through their own personal style, I’m also qualified in bringing creative concepts to life through styling photoshoots and it’s always such fun working in this space as I build my portfolio. I’m curious, what do you think my styling expresses here? ... Photographer @leongqj Model @ailenewu Stylist #mayaandpeacock

17.01.2022 You may have noticed I haven't been posting much on the gram over the last few weeks and that's because a few medical issues are getting me down, demotivated, exhausted from pain, feeling unlike myself and, lets face it, not focused or very stylish. IG has been the constant reminder of everything I haven’t been doing. Almost 4 months since relocating and I miss the comforts of friends, family, networks, wonderful clients and even my income. Feeling ill was the perfect reason ...to start questioning a few things, including my worth. But I came across an article by incredible @australianstyleinstitute alumni @thestylevibe_ and a post by amazing mentor @stylebyjuvelle which inspired me and got me thinking about the the relationship I have with myself. It’s something I’m constantly working on albeit sometimes seemingly at a slow pace and I realise it’s about being mindful, making continuous efforts and, for me, being grateful for the things I’ve accomplished thus far because they remind me of what I’m capable of. Yes it’s a special day but the sentiment should be constant, so the message I want to share is that before we can give fully to our relationships and our lives, we need to practice more self-love. Not the kind that speaks to the ego but the kind that speaks to our inner voice - the voice we’re in constant conversation with. It's too easy for us to self criticise - from our personality, behaviour, efforts and achievements to our aesthetic and body shape. The negative narrative undermines our self esteem and, just like that, it has nothing to do with how we actually appear but everything to do with how we see ourselves. When working with clients, I highlight the importance of seeing and seeking our positive attributes. When we shift the focus to those great qualities which make us who we are, therein lies the power of transformation and with that comes confidence and so much more. So in celebration of love & you, I'm challenging you to change your conversation. Think of something you love about yourself and comment here! I’ll start - I love my smile and my legs - It’s not vain, it’s love and you’re worth it. Happy Valentines Day beautiful people x

17.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday Trench coats have been associated with a lot of character stereotypes - the mystery man, the international spy - but did you know they were first invented for the war? I suppose the name gives it away! Trench coats were initially designed for soldiers and army officers in World War I to keep them warm, made out of durable and waterproof fabrics.... I am a huge fan of the trench coat, which I feel should be a staple in any wardrobe. I typically opt for long-line, lightweight, belted styles with fluid fabrics which allow me to effortlessly cinch in the waist. A camel trench is the iconic piece that never goes out of style, but there have been some gorgeous pastel hues in stores recently that will add some colour to your closet and see you through the seasons too. Do you have a staple trench coat in your wardrobe? How do you like to style it?

17.01.2022 So many announcements in such a short period of time! Among our upcoming move to Melbourne and the launch of our website (link in bio), plenty has been going on at M&P HQ. What would you like to see more of from us on Instagram? Tips, tricks, history lessons or industry info?

16.01.2022 Warmer weather incoming! I’m excited to pull out more sleeveless tops like this blue lace-trim number. I love pieces that unify block colouring with interesting textures - they can really pull an outfit together and add an interesting element without feeling overwhelming. Do you have your own version of a fail-safe/miracle garment that can pull together a whole outfit?

16.01.2022 If you know me or have worked with me, then you know I swear by a good basic white tee as a staple for your wardrobe. It may seem cliched, but the importance of a quality plain white t-shirt cannot be overstated. Dressed up or down, it’s the equivalent of a blank canvas around which you can build your outfit. Some of the most important things to look out for when selecting one are... - Neckline - Fit - Where the hem sits - Fabric opacity (some thin fabrics can be annoyingly translucent and show the bra worn underneath) What’s your favourite way to style a simple plain white t-shirt?

15.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday Don’t underestimate the power and popularity of a t-shirt and jeans - in the USA, it’s estimated that each person owns an average of 7 pairs of blue jeans. As for t-shirts, there are around two billion sold every single year. Originally, t-shirts were a type of clothing meant to be used only by men. Fashion is big business, that’s for sure!... 13.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday Tulle is a multifaceted fabric, and comes in a variety of different forms and materials. Whether it’s Nylon tulle, Silk tulle or English (100% cotton) tulle, they all come in different yarn weights, hole sizes and opacities. My best tip for buying garments with tulle incorporated in them - make sure you have a feel of the tulle itself so you know what you’re wearing!

13.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday The history of the colour pink in fashion is certainly a colourful one (no pun intended!) According to CNN Style, it first became fashionable for European aristocrats in the mid 1700s to symbolise luxury and class.... Madame de Pompadour, the chief mistress of Louis XV, loved the color so much that, in 1757, French porcelain manufacturer Sèvres named its exquisite new shade of pink, Rose Pompadour, after her. Does the colour pink make a frequent appearance in your wardrobe? Image via lhpride on Tumblr

12.01.2022 Ever feel like you’re stuck in a style rut? It happens to the best of us - even stylists. So what’s a foolproof look you can rely on when inspiration decides to leave the building? I love grabbing a one piece - dress, bodysuit, whatever it might be - in a bold, statement-making print or colour. ... Pair with simple accessories and voila - an eye-catching yet simple look to pull you out of any wardrobe meltdown. I love this piece by South African designer @michelleludek! Love it too? Look out for a giveaway in the near future where I’ll be giving away one of these gorgeous dresses!

12.01.2022 Maya & Peacock is moving to Melbourne! Yes, you read that right - soon, we’ll be packing up our things here in beautiful Wollongong and relocating a little further south. This decision was not made lightly because Wollongong has been our home since moving to Australia and this sweet city has always been so good to us, but it’s like Rumi says ‘when your heart knows the way, you have to run in that direction’ (COVID or not). ... If you’ve worked with me before or would like to work with me again, I am still here for you - even if you’re not Melbourne-based, we can absolutely continue to work together! With all of 2020’s advancements in the way we communicate, there are a number of ways we can bring our styling sessions to life over the internet and I would be happy to make a trip to the Gong or even meet you in Melbourne on your holiday. It won’t be easy to say goodbye, but I’m so excited about the future that lies ahead in this wonderful new city. Our move is still a month or so away, but I can’t help but look forward to all the new journeys and adventures ahead. What’s your favourite part of Melbourne?

12.01.2022 Come to the start of a new year, we admirably tend to set the bar high with resolutions that we never quite get to fully achieving! Why not be kind to yourself this year and set some realistic but fun style goals? This way You could set aside some time to learn more about how to shop your closet, experiment with styles and fall in love with your existing wardrobe all over again, or you could simply want to know what your true style is so your inner self shines when you get dr...essed, or how you can break the cycle of buying pieces on impulse that doesn't make you feel your best. If we've learnt anything from 2020 its that we should be shopping more sensibly, making the most of our wardrobe and truly considering our environmental and social footprint when making new purchases, and there is no time like the present to implement these shifts in mindset. #mayaandpeacock is here to help you discover and love your style. Send me a DM or email [email protected] to book an obligation free chat to kickstart your journey to achieving your style goals!

11.01.2022 We’ve all heard diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but personally, I love choosing pearls for that added layer of style and elegance. There’s something exquisitely feminine and delicate about a string of pearls (especially when teamed up with lacey accoutrements as pictured here), but there are so many ways you can wear pearls with a twist. I’ve seen handbags with pearl straps, shoes with pearl embellishments, pearl trim on some gorgeous tunics, or even incorporated into a ...hairstyle as hair slides. Are you a fan of pearls? What’s your favourite way to wear them?

10.01.2022 Welcome to Spring! It’s time to break out the lighter layers and mix and match with some new pieces. Navy is a very classic, timeless and versatile colour. I've often heard my clients say that they don't wear navy because they feel it's too conservative or boring. I challenge this thinking and encourage them to explore navy as an alternative to black, because it's a great neutral tone that's a very wearable colour which can be paired so well with different complexions and oth...er colour palettes. Try it with a monochromatic look like this, or mix it up with some spring pastels. I love teaming cool navy with contrasting accessories - the juxtaposition of warm and cool hues also does a pretty good job of representing the changing of the seasons, don’t you think?

10.01.2022 Let this serve as a reminder that you don’t need to be overflowing with cash in order to dress in a way that makes you feel empowered and in-charge. Let your creativity take reign - re-fashion and upcycle older pieces, raid your best friend’s wardrobe, or even thrift shop. The possibilities are endless!

08.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday Never underestimate the power of a well-tailored suit! The first form of the modern suit is credited to George Bryan Beau Brummell in the 1700s. Beau was known for his style which combined formal military dress and English country gentleman attire, and was centred around tailored pieces which fitted the body perfectly. A closet investment piece, the tailored suit epitomises power and can be used for a variety of occasions. Key to a perfect fit includes co...nsideration of the shoulder line, lapel, waist and fabrication. Do you have a well-tailored suit in your closet?

08.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday The history of fashion styling is regarded by many to have begun in the 80s, when freelance stylists began working with magazines to produce fashion editorials. Personal styling, as a form of fashion styling, is all about working directly with the individual rather than a brand or publication. Across the world, there are a number of industry bodies that stylists can be accredited with - Maya & Peacock, for instance, have been trained via the @australianstyle...institute. Personal styling for Maya & Peacock is about recognising a client’s potential and working with them to bring congruence between their personality, values, goals and lifestyle through clothing and style, so they are able to dress confidently in their own authenticity.

06.01.2022 Organza, embellishments, ruffled silhouettes - I find playing around with different style elements makes dressing up for a special occasion all the more fun! What style elements do you play with?

03.01.2022 It can be easy to scroll through Instagram and feel like the standards of beauty these days are unattainable - and I won’t sit here and tell you, just ignore it, you’re beautiful on the inside, because I know it’s not necessarily that easy. I take inspiration from this quote - what values are important to you? What are the elements that you find uniquely important and desirable? By anchoring into our inner wisdom and character, and staying true to our values, we find our true sense of beauty and we then authentically live in, and love, our own style.

02.01.2022 Playing with new Spring style means playing with new Spring accoutrements, too! Whether it’s a spot of peachy blush in your makeup routine, a delicate earring or even just bringing some fresh flowers into the home, how are you welcoming September and the new season?

01.01.2022 Warmer weather and easing restrictions means we’re all getting excited to put our dancing shoes on and have a night out on the town when it’s safe to do so. I love these soft pink suede heels - the thin straps and stiletto heels add a fun, flirty and feminine accent to any outfit. Pair with a white day dress for a high-class luncheon, or a high waisted pant to create a masc/femme contrast. What’s your go-to shoe for a night out or a classy affair?

01.01.2022 Because why not? We can all use a bit of extra glamour and fun in our lives from time to time - so overdress, put on your boldest accessories, throw caution to the wind and have FUN with your style. It’s what fashion is all about!
