17.01.2022 This Kenyan single origin is a GEM! Come try it at Mayfair. Cup characteristics: mixed berry tea with a delightlfully balanced citric acidity, strong sweet aroma and notes of salted caramel. General: the Gaturiri Factory (wet mill) is part of the Barichu Cooperative Society in Nyeri in Central Kenya. Nyeri is known for coffees with intense, complex, and flavour-dense cup profiles. It is made up of mainly smallholder farms, each with around 100 trees. They are organized in Co...operative Societies that act as umbrella organisations for the Factories (wet mills), where the smallholders deliver their coffee cherries for processing. Under the Barichu Cooperative Society you have the four wetmills Karindundu, Gaturiri, Gatomboya and Karatina. There is a lot of competition in Nyeri. Many of the farmers are surrounded by several wet mills. They are free to choose where they want to deliver their cherries as members. Due to the traditional auction system in Kenya, quality is rewarded with higher prices. The better factories will then attract more farmers by producing coffee getting the highest prices, as well as giving high return rate to the farmers.
