Whilst McLaren Vale and the Barossa Valley in South Australia get all the glory for this varietal, WA produces excellent Grenache in 3 regions. The Swan Valley is home to the oldest wine region in WA. It has one of the warmest climates in Australia where Grenache thrives. ... It grows all the way down south in the Great Southern region of Frankland River where cool nights and warm days with long sunlight hours provide a Mediterranean climate. And we can’t forget Geographe whilst they have excessively warm temperatures, it’s cooled down by the infamous Fremantle Doctor where you’ll find a more delicate style of Grenache. This Avant-Garde Series, comes from a single vineyard in the Swan Valley, emphasis on the regional expression. Grown on old gnarly bush vines have grown on their own roots for more than 70 years, dry farmed in Coffee Rock Soil. Think rose petals, red licorice strap, raspberries with silk like tannins.

If Chardonnay is the queen of grapes that would make Margaret River the royal court. Home to some of the world’s most beautiful examples, Margaret River has established itself as one of Australia’s premier Chardonnay producing regions however you’ll also see delicious examples... In the Great Southern, particularly Denmark - Chardonnay here is elegant, tightly structured, grapefruit-accented which ages well. Wines from the south can be a little finer and softer while those of the north are slightly more powerful. More inland we have Mount Barker & Poronogurups which produce Chardonnay with fine stone fruits, elegance and fuller flavours with complexity. Not forgetting, the Southern Forests, where in Pemberton the most widely planted variety is Chardonnay. Opulently flavoured and structured wines, with an almost creamy texture with oak.
