24.01.2022 Our amazing ‘old’ and ‘new’ preschoolers have been settling into our environment, developing a sense of belonging and exploring through play!

23.01.2022 Today is Internet Safety Day - the e-safety commissioner has this great resource to read to preschool aged children. It’s never too early to teach protective behaviours, especially as children have such easy access to online content.

23.01.2022 A lovely follow up to our recent experience meeting a Green grocer cicada when Mrs Ezzy found a Black Prince who seemed a little lost. We learnt even more about cicadas and how amazing they are by reading "Searching for Cicadas" and looking at a life cycle book. We had a closer look at a moth and dragonfly, and their amazing wings too.

22.01.2022 We enjoyed a beautiful lunch and coffees on our professional development day today thanks to Dose Jannali and the generosity of one of our lovely families. Thank you! We had a productive day preparing for an amazing year ahead.

19.01.2022 Happy Lunar New Year! Oxen are honest, patient and hardworking. Each of the twelve animals in the Chinese calendar has a different character. Your own character depends on which animal was ruling in the year you were born. They say: "This is the animal that hides in your heart."

17.01.2022 The first of many Sutherland Shire Preschool Alliance and The Fathering Project events! We had such great fun last Saturday with the Como Jannali Crocs!

17.01.2022 Happy World Bee Day! Today we celebrate everything about bees. Bees are vital for the preservation of ecological balance and biodiversity in nature. It's estimated that one-third of the food that we consume each day relies on pollination by bees.... Our new native flowering trees, planted by Suth. Shire Council, as well as our crepe myrtle tree, provide safe, bee friendly havens.

14.01.2022 You can find all the great resources here including jimmy giggle reading the story, songs and activities to promote safe use of phones and iPads with young children.

13.01.2022 A fabulous impromptu opportunity for hands on learning when Scott (Cooper's dad) brought in a Green grocer cicada this week to show the children. Our intrepid naturalists took turns to gently hold and look at the amazing creature's wings, eyes, and feel it's legs tickle their hand. Did you know cicadas live underground for 7 years before emerging when the temperature is right, then live for only 2-6 weeks whilst mating over the summer. The males are one of the loudest insects in the world! We'll explore these amazing creatures further this term as we head into Summer.

12.01.2022 Happy Mother’s Day to our amazing Mayflower Mums, Grandmothers, Aunties and women in our children’s lives.

11.01.2022 Great ‘checklist’ for parents.

04.01.2022 Wonderful to have the newly appointed mayor of Sutherland shire council visit the exhibition at Hazelhurst. He was very impressed with all the amazing works by the preschoolers of Mayflower and the SSPA!

03.01.2022 This week is National Volunteers week so we want to say thankyou - to our volunteer management committee members (who are a mix of preschool parents and Jannali Uniting Church representatives) and to our many families who support our preschool program, social events and working bees each year - we say THANKYOU! We couldn't do it without you, and you help make Mayflower Preschool the amazing place that it is to play, learn and work!

03.01.2022 We acknowledge the Dharawal people, the traditional custodians of the land on which we live, work and play and pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. #NAIDOCWeek2020

02.01.2022 What a busy week we had last week...making pizzas and choosing lots of colourful healthy vegies and toppings on Tuesday and Thursday. On Wednesday we celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime, listening to astronaut Shannon Walker read the story "Give me some Space" by Philip Bunting, from the International Space Station! Such wonderful discussions about the planets, space and zero gravity which we saw in action when Shannon spun the book around and then walked away....it kept spinning on its axis! International Space Station National Simultaneous Storytime 2021

01.01.2022 Fostering a love of learning through play at this crtitical time of brain devt is so important! "This first critical period of brain development begins around age 2 and concludes around age 7. It provides a prime opportunity to lay the foundation for a holistic education for children. Four ways to maximize this critical period include encouraging a love of learning, focusing on breadth instead of depth, paying attention to emotional intelligence, and not treating young children’s education as merely a precursor to real learning.
