24.01.2022 Edit* Bsn SES will also be open to dispense sandbags to those that need them this Sunday from 10am till 12. We are good at making sandbags, but would rather we ...didn't have to when your place is flooded. Being self sufficient and prepared is everyone's job. So if you know you are prone to flooding, or water issues. Busselton SES is open this afternoon from 2pm to 4pm for people to collect sandbags for themselves. Empty sandbags. There are 2 sand dump locations in town for you to use if required. 1 at the Footy club, the other at Sea rescue. See more
23.01.2022 Today is the inaugural 'Thank a First Responder Day'. It’s hard to put into words just how much the individuals in our emergency services mean to us. Over thousands of kilometres from our capital city to the remotest corners of our State, those individuals step up to make a difference. Our devastating summer that drew the attention of the rest of the world seems so long ago, considering all that has happened since. First responders have continued to adapt to these challenges... to protect and care for those in need. Thank you for battling fires both on our own doorstep and helping our fellow Australians over east, thank you for braving the storms, cyclones and floods and thank you for selflessly facing rough seas to make sure we are safe. This sentiment of thanks is a shared one, and the gratitude is evident in the heartfelt messages we see from the community everyday. #FirstResponderDay #ThankAFirstResponder

11.01.2022 #NRW2020 In this together. The City of Busselton acknowledges the Traditional Custodians, the Wadandi Bibulmun people, on whose land we are living and pay our... respects to Elders, past, present and emerging. National Reconciliation Week is drawing to a close. This week has been an important week for all indigenous peoples across Australia. Here in the City of Busselton we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians, recognise our past and seek to trust and grow together. It has been a tumultuous week world-wide and now more than ever, it is important to recognise and champion mutual respect in Australia. The City continues to work on its Reconciliation Action Plan and continues its journey toward reconciliation we will acknowledge, reconcile and collaborate!
10.01.2022 Phase 3 of the State Government’s Roadmap to easing COVID-19 restrictions comes into play on Saturday 6 June. This will allow gatherings of up to 100 provided there is space for a 2m distance between people, and the opening up of many businesses. It’s great to be able to welcome back beauty salons, gyms, cellar doors and cinemas noting that some changes to operations in these venues are likely to apply for a while yet. ... Most excitedly playgrounds and skateparks can be legally reopened this weekend. We’ll start removing barricades in time for Saturday play giving priority to high use parks. It may take a day or two to physically reopen all our playgrounds particularly in some of the lesser used areas - but we’ll work as fast as we can. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we work hard to reactivate our recreational spaces and bring some vitality back to popular areas.
09.01.2022 We are in the midst of National Volunteer Week (NVW) The theme for NVW 2021 is Recognise. Reconnect. Reimagine. RECOGNISE, celebrate and thank volunteers for the vital role they play in our lives. . Volunteers make our communities stronger, especially during times of need, crisis or isolation. RECONNECT to what is important by giving our time to help others and ourselves. In a time of COVID-19, when many of us have experienced increased loneliness or isolation, mental healt...h or financial stress, volunteering can help. REIMAGINE how we better support volunteers and communities they help. Since 2014, Australia has seen a 20 per cent decline in the number of hours volunteers give. During COVID-19, two-thirds of volunteers stopped working and a recent study highlights that social purpose organisations continue to lose one in four volunteers due to illness or caring responsibilities. Thank you to all volunteers in our community who make this such a great place to live.
08.01.2022 Good evening everyone, an update from Western Power: Western Power crews have restored power to around 44,000 customers during the past 24 hours. Around 10,000 customers remain affected by the storm front that crossed over the lower half of the state yesterday and today. We have had all available crews working across the network today and cancelled some planned works to redirect resources to help address new hazards and restore power to customers. With most hazards now asses...sed and made safe, crews across the network are increasingly moving into the repair and restoration phase. Making hazards safe is always our first priority during storm events as they present a potential risk to the community if left unattended. Once safe, crews can repair and restore power as required. Please be aware that if you’re in an impacted area you’ll see our crews moving around the community between incidents. Current status While we are working to restore power as quickly as possible there will be some customers who will remain without power overnight. If you have not had your power restored we ask that you make plans to be without power overnight. We understand the frustration and inconvenience this may cause but please be assured we’re working to get your power supply back on. Two helicopter crews will be deployed on Tuesday to help assess remaining hazards. South and South West There are pockets of areas where hazards remain, and crews will keep managing hazards as a priority and work with network operations to restore power through backfeeding where possible. Unfortunately, areas in and around Busselton, Dunsborough and Margaret River remain without power following significant damage to the transmission network however, numbers have reduced from 15,000 to just over 2000 this afternoon. We will keep working into the evening and ask affected customers to check the outage map at www.westernpower.com.au for estimated restoration times, which we continually update as crews attend each incident.
07.01.2022 Today I had the pleasure of officially opening the new Red Dot store in Busselton with owner of Red Dot WA Rob Shirley and store manager Michelle. Busselton is the biggest Red Dot store in WA and will employ 15-20 locals.

07.01.2022 Great to restart our Breakfast Club for students at Busselton Primary School today
06.01.2022 Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day) is today 20 May 2020, coinciding with National Volunteer Week (18 to 24 May 2020). WOW Day provides an opportunity for the community to recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication of State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers throughout Australia. This is the colour worn by more than 2,000 SES volunteers across Western Australia who provide assistance to the community during natural disasters and emergencies. There is some steep compet...ition between business units here at the City Administration Building, with Councillors and Staff wearing their orange proudly today. Think orange and thank orange. Thanks, SES!
06.01.2022 On the weekend a resident asked me why the City has given up on the new terminal building at the Busselton Margaret River Airport and I wondered if others also felt that this was the case? This is not the case at all. Council remains committed to the development and would much rather have seen the $9.5 million which was allocated to the new terminal by the State Government remain with the project and be committed to a build immediately. Unfortunately we were advised by th...e State Government that this was not to be the case and that no decision about future funding for the airport will be made until at least after the three year Jetstar agreement has been undertaken. Given this the City has requested that the $9.5 million be repurposed for the Busselton Entertainment Arts and Cultural Hub (BEACH) project because this is where we see most benefit in terms of immediate job growth and economic stimulus. The decision to take State funding from the airport terminal project and redirect it elsewhere is not a City of Busselton decision. We’re working hard with the State Government to see the funding retained in this municipality. Ultimately, however, it is up to the State Government to determine if and where this funding is repurposed. Apart from the new terminal the airport project is essentially complete and is ready to accept the interstate flights through interim terminal facilities when border restrictions are lifted and demand returns. This has been reassured through Jetstar and the Qantas Group recently. Mayor Grant Henley
06.01.2022 Paying respects at the Busselton War Memorial on Anzac Day with student leaders from Cape Naturaliste College.
05.01.2022 Anzac Day is an incredibly important day of commemoration in all Australian communities. We are fortunate in Busselton to be able to attend services in person this year. Please follow instructions from RSL volunteer marshals to ensure we meet the COVID plan requirements. Lest We Forget
04.01.2022 Good evening everyone, an update from Western Power: Western Power emergency response crews are continuing to work on a number of hazards and outages created by a deep low-pressure system moving across the west coast. The damaging and destructive winds associated with the front have thrown debris, including tree branches, into the network damaging equipment and bringing down powerlines. We also have reports of a radio tower bringing down powerlines in Bassendean and rooftops ...in Geraldton being dislodged and hitting the network, also bringing down powerlines. The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting the strongest storm winds will not reach the metropolitan area until after 5pm this evening, before moving down to the South West by around 8pm. We have 70 crews addressing hazards on the network now and have plans in place to bring more on if the current levels escalate unexpectedly. We will not attempt any repair work during the storm because operating elevated work platforms (cherrypickers) and other equipment is not safe to do so because of the dangerous winds. Our network operations teams, however, will look for opportunities to isolate damaged parts of the network and backfeed power to restore customers where it is safe to do so. However, this will mean that some customers who are currently without power may need to make arrangements to be without power overnight. We apologise for this inconvenience if you are impacted by outages overnight from this complex and unpredictable weather system. Currently, approximately 50,000 customers, across the network, are affected by storm-related outages. We’re aware that many outages displayed on our online map currently list restoration times as 'unknown'. This is due to crews prioritising hazards before restoration works can commence. Our priority at the moment is responding to the hazards being reported to us to ensure community safety, if you see a fallen powerline or network damage, please make the safe call to us on 13 13 51 immediately. Customers can keep up to date on estimated restoration times on our power outage map and via our social media which is regularly updated.
