This morning VACCHO, Victorian Aboriginal Health Service -VAHS, Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency - VACCA, Aboriginal Housing Victoria, Djirra..., Dardi Munwurro - Strong Spirit, First Peoples' Health and Wellbeing and Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service met with Victorian Department of Health & Human Services to plan legal, medical and community care supports for Aboriginal families and residents affected by the North Melbourne, Flemington and Kensington lockdowns. We are confident that by acting quickly together we can help ensure the most vulnerable are safe and have the care they need during these challenging times. 20.01.2022 Charcoal Lane our Fitzroy-based social enterprise and restaurant, has been cooking nutritious meals for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.... Delicious native dishes like Kangaroo Bourguignon and Emu Stroganoff are being cooked by Charcoal Lane's young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and trainees. A huge thank you to the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service -VAHS and Darebin City Council for delivering the meals and partnering with us! **This initiative is made possible through collaboration with Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS), the Aboriginal Community Elders Services (ACES), Darebin City Council, Yarra City Councils Aboriginal Support Network and cohealths Billabong BBQ Program, Aboriginal Housing Victoria (AHV) and MAYSAR, Melbourne Aboriginal Youth Sport and Recreation Co-Operative(MAYSAR).

18.01.2022 Today marks the 30 year anniversary since the passing of Herbert 'Jock' Austin. Jock was a founding member of MAYSAR, formerly known as the Fitzroy Stars Aboriginal Community Youth Club Gymnasium. It was set up with a goal of getting youth in to a positive environment and helping the community as much as possible. A strong leader in the community, Jock's legacy continues to live on through his family, friends and through the continued operation of MAYSAR and the Fitzroy Stars... Football Netball Club. Take a moment today to reflect on Jock's life and if you can, please share your memories with us by leaving a written or video message in the comment below. On the 26th of January this year the Yarra City Council held an event at Bargoonga Nganjin, North Fitzroy Library in dedication to Jock. We thank the Yarra City Council for paying tribute to the legacy and creating this video for us to share.

To apply, please email BDM’s Aboriginal Relationships Officer at [email protected] between 9-13 November, 2020. They will then provide you with the birth certificate application form via email, and let you know the next steps. Commemorative certificates are not legal documents and can’t be used for official purposes, including proof of... identity or Aboriginality. Certificates can only be issued for people born in Victoria. For more information on who can apply, visit www.bdm.vic.gov.au/koori About the certificate The Victorian Aboriginal Heritage commemorative birth certificate brings together artwork by three of Victoria’s leading Aboriginal artists, Vicki Couzens, Lee Durroch and Treahna Hamm.
