22.01.2022 The CFMMEU wants to shut down our industry every 2nd Monday. If workers cave-in to union pressure and shut the industry, workers will lose overtime and flexibility. The 5% annual wage increase demanded by the union will destroy long term job prospects, especially in our current economic environment.

18.01.2022 On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. From the summer of 1918, the five divisions of the Australian Corps had been at the forefront of the allied advance to victory. Beginning with their stunning success at the battle of Hamel in July, they helped to turn the tide of the war at Amiens i...n August, followed by the capture of Mont St Quentin and Pèronne, and the breaching of German defences at the Hindenburg Line in September. By early October the exhausted Australians were withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead. In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. The social effects of these losses cast a long shadow over the postwar decades.

18.01.2022 Construction sites across north-western Sydney can expect a visit from SafeWork Inspectors this week who will be targeting unsafe working systems across all building trades. A building company has been fined $90,000 after a worker suffered a fatal fall from scaffolding on a Lidcombe construction site. The scaffolding he fell through was not secured and as a result, the worker fell one floor and hit his head on a concrete balcony. Announcing a safety compliance blitz across building sites this week, Better Regulation Minister Kevin Anderson said incidents like this should not happen. Everyone deserves to return home to their family at the end of the working day he said. Read more: https://www.mbansw.asn.au/NthWestblitz

17.01.2022 Have you heard of the Federal Government’s instant asset write-off? If you haven’t, you're not alone. Research by American Express has shown half of all small business owners are unaware of this tax break. If you're a small to medium sized business, the instant asset write-off could be a great way to acquire capital assets and obtain an immediate tax deduction. But you only have until June 30 to take advantage. Some of the items that you could look at purchasing include cars,... vans, utes, bobcats, plant and machinery. Key points: - You can write off 100% of assets that cost up to $150,000 - Equipment/vehicles to be purchased and ready for use by June 30 - For businesses with less than $500 million turnover - After June 30, the threshold drops from $150K to $1K Call Ogarit from Master Builders Financial Services on 0414 919 194 to find out how you can take advantage of this tax break before it ends or visit www.mbansw.asn.au/financial-services.

16.01.2022 Businesses that pay contractors for certain services may need to lodge a Taxable payments annual report (TPAR) with the ATO by 28 August 2020. Under the Taxable payments reporting system (TPRS), if your business primarily provides building and construction services and you pay contractors to perform them on your behalf, you may need to report the payments made to the contractors. The TPAR is due by 28 August each year.... If you did not lodge a TPAR in 2019 you may still need to do so. Your business is primarily in the building and construction industry for TPAR if any of the following apply: in the current or previous financial year, 50% or more of your business income is earned from providing building and construction services or in the current financial year, 50% or more of your business activity relates to building and construction services. Contractors include subcontractors, consultants or independent contractors. They can be individuals, partnerships, companies or trusts. Payments to employees are not included. This means that if you engage a worker and withhold Pay as you go (PAYG) from their pay, you do not include them in the TPAR. Businesses should visit ato.gov.au/tpar for information and resources.

14.01.2022 The CFMMEU calls the employer agreements dogs*** but those Agreements are current CFMMEU Agreements that preserve workers flexibility for taking Rostered Days Off. We cannot understand why the CFMMEU wants to reduce workers’ rights to flexibility. Is shutting the industry just a grab for control by the CFMMEU? Why does the CFMMEU want to destroy the hard-won worker rights to flexibility.

03.01.2022 Master Builders NSW Executive Director Brian Seidler, is quoted on page 2 of The Australian Financial Review today. The article, -CFMEU deal a threat to post-virus recovery- reports that the construction union's new NSW agreement is threatening to undermine the post-pandemic recovery by driving up wage costs by 25 per cent at a time when jobs are under threat and pay is being cut. The article acknowledges that Master Builders NSW has sought urgent meetings with Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Premier Gladys Berejiklian over its concerns with the union's 5 per cent wage increases and fixed rostered-days-off schedule that would effectively shut down project sites an extra 20 days a year.
