24.01.2022 "When my father, a Vietnam veteran, died suddenly in 1995, it had a massive impact on our family. I’m thankful to this day that Legacy was there to step into t...he breach. They were able to soften the grief and sense of despair through emotional support. They were also able to provide a buffer for the financial situation that had changed so suddenly. They understand the word commitment. They understand the need for compassion. They understand what it means to make a promise. The volunteers and those whom work under the Legacy banner do such amazing and important work and they need our help so they can continue to help others. Other widows, widowers, sons and daughters will always need a shoulder to lean on in a time of great loss and they will always be able to rely on the support and gentle helping hand that Legacy provides. Today, I believe that if not for Legacy then things may have been different for myself and my family, yet I am lucky they were there and cared so much about us." - Corporal Mark Donaldson VC and Legacy kid. On this day, seven years ago, Mark Donaldson performed an extraordinarily selfless act that led to him becoming the first Australian to receive the Victoria Cross in almost 40 years. We salute you Corporal Donaldson and thank you for your service. LEGACY WEEK: AUGUST 30 - SEPTEMBER 5, 2015

24.01.2022 On this day... in 1914, HMAS AE1, the first submarine to serve in the Royal Australian Navy, was lost with all hands off East New Britain, in what was then Germ...an New Guinea. AE1 was part of the flotilla that took the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force to German New Guinea. She left Rabaul at 07:00 on 14 September 1914, and was never heard of again. In 2017, after a total of 13 searches over many years, she was located at a depth of 300 metres, well below her safe diving depth of 60 metres. It seems likely that a ventilation valve was left open when she dived, leading to the flooding of her engine room and total loss of control of the submarine, followed by implosion as she descended below her safe diving depth. She had a crew of 34. Lest we forget. Ian Smith Chair ANZAC Day Committee Image of AE1 underway: AWM

14.01.2022 What a great Australia Day 2020 where both of the Tasmanian Sub branch’s (North & South) of the Military Brotherhood MMC had their 1st meet up for the year at the Man’o’Ross Hotel in Ross. Great food, great people & even better banter, new friendships formed, new members & prospective members attended as well. This MMC is growing to help & further assist our Veterans in need. 10.01.2022 ON THIS DAY: In response to the escalating violence and humanitarian crisis in East Timor the Australian-led, 22-nation International Forces East Timor (INTERFE...T) coalition began deploying to East Timor on 20 September 1999. Three battalions and 5500 personnel were committed by Australia in over 10 years of Australian deployment. Four Australian soldiers were to lose their lives in Timor-Leste, none of them due to enemy actions. 06.01.2022 Tasmania North Sub Branch will be raising funds for a memorial plaque and medallions in honour of Hans Mohler, a Founding Member of this Sub Branch who passed a...way earlier this year. We will be raffling a $350.00 new generation Bee-Line Moto motorcycle GPS. Tickets will be $5.00 each, book of five for $20.00. The Bee-Line unit come with a number of different handlebar and RAM mounts. It is brand new, one of the very first shipments of these units into Australia, it is true to say if you win this you will have a unique, highly functional and aesthetically pleasing addition to your ride. The GPS is a small disc shaped unit that attaches to your handlebars. It has a Bluetooth link to your smart phone (both IOS and Andriod). Once the route is downloaded no mobile data link is required. The unit has a battery life of over 30 hours between charges. Software upgrades to both the unit and the phone App will be provided by Bee-Line at no charge. We will have a unit at Roundup so you will be to see it in person as well as buy tickets from our members. However, as there is only a limited number (max 350) you might want to get in early before they sell out. The GPS raffle will be drawn on Tuesday, 17 December at the Westbury RSL at our monthly meeting. We will let you know who the lucky winner is via this Facebook page.
