19.01.2022 After a damp start to the day & a few scattery showers through the day, it was near perfect for a round of golf. The early showers did scare a few off, but it was their loss!! Before I release the results I want to again speak of my disgust in relation to the non repairing of divots on the fairways & also the amount of unrepaired pitch marks on the green. You can blame green fee players as much as you like, but you don't have to be a Rocket Scientist to know when the damage i...s fresh. So to all those not playing their part, please get your head out of your proverbial & fix your damage. It is you that let us down, not the green staff that you want to blame. RANT OVER!!! The winning pair of the past two years in Steve Scholefield & Di Starke have not nominated this year which leaves the door ajar for last year's runners-up Lee Vivian & Bella Blacket to step onto the top row of the podium. They won;t have it all their own way though as Ian & Barb Low, Gab Virag & Karen Parsons, Kym & Dee Davies, David Ling & Sue Cooper, as well as our Captains, Gary Secombe & Marg Young will all be out to place their names on the honour board for 2020. My dark horse selection however is Alan (Mr Reliable) Golding & his wife Cynthia who is no stranger to having her name lit up in lights with many championship wins of numerous types. Good luck to all that are participating & may the best pairing win.

14.01.2022 Cool, wet conditions were the order of the day for the Saturday Par competition & the weather did deter a few players but some good scoring was evident in the men's event. David Hurling returned the best score of the day with 42pts to win Division 1 from Geoff Sampson on 39pts who survived a four way countback while in Division 2 Lance Driscoll's 41pts was enough to take the chocolates from Keith McCartin with 38pts. In the A1 match against Oakbank at South Lakes the boys were successful, winning 5/2 with wins going to David Ling 2/1, Peter Jelf 1up, Steve Scholefield 3/1, Chris Barker 6/5 & Dave Raison 2up. Josh Hayes & Ash Hartman were the unlucky ones going down 4/2 & 3/2 respectively. B1 played Echunga at Mt Compass (I think) & came away with a halved match 3.5 games each. Gary Secombe 7/6, Ian Low 3/1 & Phil Smedley 5/4 were the winners, with Michael Rigney halving his game. Dave Bennett, Jake Hayes & Nick Schmidt couldn't quite get it done. going down 1down, 3/2 & 3/1 respectively. The B3 team travelled to Strathalbyn to play the host club but unfortunately the home team was too strong winning 5/2. Tony Hamilton & Gab Virag were the winners, both winning 2up. The unfortunate ones were Peter Ashforth 3/2, Ron Blacker 5/4, Martin Jolly 2down, Alan Golding 2/1 & Wayne Cooper 2down just missing out.

12.01.2022 After speaking with the Club Captain Gary Secombe, he has asked me to post the following statement on behalf of the McCracken Golf Club. "In light of the current COVID19 crisis, the Match Committee has decided to cancel all club competitions until further notice, in the best interests of our members health and safety. The course will remain open for the present time and members can still play a social round of golf if they wish.... It is still expected that members adhere to the guidelines recommended by the Government in respect to hygiene and social distancing if playing golf. Keep safe everyone and hopefully if we all do the right thing we can return to normal operations in the near future. Please visit the website regularly for future notifications and updates." Further inquiries can be made through our Pro Shop staff on 85510299. Thank you for your understanding during these testing times.

12.01.2022 A nice size field played the men's Wednesday Par event held on 20th January, with some good scores being the order of the day. 12.01.2022 With only one week left in the SGG men's pennant season it is time for me to catch up how our teams are performing. On Sunday 28th March the A2 team played Willunga & easily acounted for them 5/2. The winners were Josh Hayes, Charlie Nobbs, Chris Barker & Steve Scholefield, while David Ling & Peter Jelf halved their matches. The B1 team destroyed their Mt Compass opponents 7/0 with great wins to Dave Bennett, Michael Rigney, Nick Schmidt, Jason Barry, Simon Bryant, Stephen Cr...onje & Peter Ashforth. The B3 team had a bye this weekend. After a week off for the Easter break the A2 team travelled to Victor Harbor to play the host club which is always a tough ask but the boys did themselves proud with a solid 6/1 victory with wins going to Charlie Nobbs, David Ling, Peter Jelf, Chris Barker, Steve Scholefield & Alex Chiera. In B1 they took on a very good South Lakes team that was full of single figure handicapped golfers but that was not enough to stop our boys as they accounted for them 4.5/2.5 with wins going to Dave Bennett, Gary Secombe, Ian Low & Nick Schmidt & a half going to Jake Hayes. Unfortunately the B3 team struggled against Willunga at Willunga going down 7/0 with a few matches going down the last hole. On Sunday 18th April the A2 team travelled to Willunga for the battle of the undefeated teams against South Lakes. Both teams were full of talent, but McCracken did enough to seal a finals berth with one round left by defeating them 5/2. Wins to Josh Hayes, Charlie Nobbs, David Ling, Chris Barker & Alex Chiera. Congratulation also goes to Chris Barker who achieved a hole in one on the 5th hole at Willunga. B1 travelled to Victor Harbor to play Links Lady Bay with a finals berth still up for grabs. Unfortunately the boys didn't quite do enough to get the job done going down 4/3 & now have to either win or have a halved match in the last round to make the final. The winners for McCracken were Ash Hartman, Jake Hayes & Ian Low. In B3 the team hosted Victor Harbor at McCracken but unfortunately they couldn't get the job done, going down 4/3 which means that finals for 2021 for this grade are done. The winners were Murray Mill, Ron Blacker & Gab Virag. The teams can have another week off this week & freshen up for the last round on Sunday 2nd May.

12.01.2022 I have a bit of catching up to & apologise to all of our followers. Below will be all the results since the start of January & now I'm back on board I assure you I won't it happen again. 12.01.2022 On Wednesday 5th August a smallish field of men tackled the midweek stableford competition in cool & blustery conditions. The course was in very good condition but as I haven't had a rant for a few weeks, I will again mention my disappointment in the lack of respect shown by members & green fee players alike. I am not a fan of preferred lies & for that reason my frustration was even more evident as on several occasions I had to play shots out of unrepaired on fairway which wo...uld be the case players were showing their fellow members & greenkeeping staff some respect & repairing the damage that they caused. that is the reason sand buckets are carried not just because your expected to!!! Now for the results; In Division 2 Lance Driscoll shot the best score of the day to finish with 42pts to win from John Tregeagle with 39pts, while in Division 1 Bob Vogt finished with 37pts to defeat Grant Dawson for the honours. The ball winners were John Hunt, Allan Browne, Lee Tamiaans (G), Arthur Burton, Nigel Crutchley (G), Mark Crowe, Phil Danby, Ash Hartman (G), John Lapworth, Paul Lewis, Willie Little & David Ling. In Thursday's women's stableford event Cynthia Golding finished with 37pts to defeat Bella Blacket on a countback while in Division 2 Lee Calaby defeated Shirley Burton on a countback with 36pts to win that grade. Ball winners included Deb Smedley, Sue Chatterton, Marg Young, Karen Parsons, Rosalie Bartley & Glenis Wearne. Marg Young also picked up the NTP on the 7th hole. This Sunday will see the running of the annual Ambrose Cup event which is also an honour board event. Good luck to all those that are participating on the day. Unfortunately due to work commitments I cannot play this year, but I am sure that my team will be right there in the finish on Sunday.

09.01.2022 An excellent field played the Saturday Stableford event on the June 27th in perfect conditions, but unfortunately a little bit heavy track which was presented in great nick considering the amount of rain it has received in recent weeks. Well done to Rushy & his team of staff & volunteers. It is important that all of our members & guests assist their great work by repairing pitch marks on the green & filling in divots on the fairways. Using your pitch repairer & sand buckets i...s not affected on any Covid-19 paperwork. Please help us out!!! 09.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day from the Management & Team at McCracken Country Club. Stay safe & well. We hope to see you all soon.

09.01.2022 A great opportunity for our golf members to buy a mate a beer for after a round of golf. We will all be looking for a beer once normality returns.

08.01.2022 A smallish field participated in the first medal event since competition was stopped due to the COVID-19 outbreak. If you were comparing the conditions of the golf course to that of a race course, we would have been running on a heavy 10 as it was very wet under foot & most scores showed that on the day. In the women's event Bella Blacket won Division 1 with 76nett from Karen Parsons with 77nett, while in Division 2 Judi Sampson was the winner with 75nett from Wendy Hendricks... on 79nett. The ball winners were Rosalie Bartley, Barb Low, Barb Little & Glenis Wearne. In the men's event Division 1 was won by Grant Dawson with 72nett on a countback form Gary Secombe, while in Division 2 Jeff Applebee (Poatina GC) shot 66nett to win from Bob Shore with 76nett.
