25.01.2022 Weve almost reached the finish line! This year, thousands of incredible Australians took the pledge to go Dry in July in support of those experiencing cancer, and thanks to them, were able to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses like Rochelle Osgood. Rochelle is a McGrath Breast Care Nurse at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in Queensland and is just one of the 7 Dry July funded nurses placed in communities across Australia thanks to our incredible Dry July supporters! With only 3 days to go theres still a chance to cheer on your friends and support McGrath Breast Care Nurses by visiting https://mcgfdn.com/DryJuly-Donate #DryJuly

24.01.2022 Breast cancer is not a cookie-cutter disease and treatments are never one size fits all. As a McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Cathy constantly has to adapt. "What people need during their experience with breast cancer is highly individual. If I can instil at the beginning that nothing is out of bounds whether it is your relationship or family or information about the risks and benefits of chemo or sexuality then I feel I have done my job well.

24.01.2022 Stuck on what to get your dad, grandpa or uncle this Fathers Day? Why not get them a gift that does good and looks good! By buying a pair of our pinked up sports or business socks youll be helping us as we continue to fund 145 incredible McGrath Breast Care Nurses across Australia. Buy your pair mcgfdn.com/pinksocks

22.01.2022 Its Georges third year participating in Dry July, but as he reflects, the last two have had significantly more meaning. In January last year, my mum Annie was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, and in the 18 months since, Ive really come to appreciate the value of organisations like the McGrath Foundation. My mum had the support of two incredible McGrath Breast Care Nurses, Moira Way, and Kim Wright. Kim was one of the first people to visit mum after her initial diagn...osis and connected her with the lovely Moira for ongoing support. George shares. When I did Dry July last year, I told everyone that if I raised $5,000 for the McGrath Foundation, Id get a tattoo, thinking that Id never get anywhere near the total. Unfortunately for me (but fortunately for McGrath Breast Care Nurses), I ended up raising over $7,400 but I dont regret it at all!. Feeling inspired? Its not too late to sign up, take on the 14 or 28 day challenge at https://mcgfdn.com/DryJuly-Register

21.01.2022 "Im doing it for my nan!" - Georgias just one of many who have already signed up to go Dry this July for the McGrath Foundation, and shes taking up the challenge in honour of her nan. I was always really close with my Nan growing up, so it hit me really hard when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She eventually passed away from the disease and asked for funds collected at her funeral to be donated to the McGrath Foundation." Georgia shared. Georgia has been thinki...ng about giving up alcohol for a while and knew that going dry for McGrath Breast Care Nurses would be the perfect inspiration to get her through the challenge. Theres still time to join Georgia, visit https://www.dryjuly.com/mcgrathfoundation to sign up for #DryJuly!

19.01.2022 McGrath Breast Care Nurses arent just amazing, caring people, theyre also some of the brightest. Just take Kerryn, one of our powerhouse clinical leaders and the first-ever Metastatic McGrath Breast Care Nurse. Not only is Kerryn a registered nurse, but she has a Graduate Certificate in Oncology and Breast Cancer Nursing, a Master in Palliative Care, a Master of Nurse Practitioner, and was a Churchill Fellowship recipient in 2019 (if youve never heard of it, its a massive... deal!). As a Metastatic Breast Care Nurse, Kerryn supports the specialised needs of patients whose cancer has spread beyond the breast to other organs in the body, Kerryn also supports many new McGrath Breast Care Nurses in their early days on the job. And Kerryns just one of 145 incredible McGrath Breast Care Nurses around Australia with an array of qualifications behind them, to help patients and their families experiencing breast cancer.

19.01.2022 In case we didnt already know how amazing they are, a group of McGrath Breast Care Nurses have gone the extra mile this month and have signed up for Dry July! We asked Deirdre, a McGrath Breast Care Nurse based in Cairns, why she decided to take on the challenge. Im so proud to be a McGrath Breast Care Nurse and I get to see firsthand the impact we have, both on a patient and their family. When we fundraise, were also able to raise awareness of the support McGrath Breast Care Nurses provide. Im about to turn 50 and rather than receive gifts, Ive asked my family and friends to donate to my Dry July efforts Deirdre shared. A huge thank you to Deirdre and the other incredible McGrath Breast Care Nurses, Sally, Jenny, Tracey, Amanda, and Shannon whove also taken on the challenge.

19.01.2022 67 incredible towns from Mudgee to Oatlands Pinked Up their Town last October and we couldnt be more thankful! We know Pink Up Your Town events will be different this year, and sticking to any government safety guidelines will be super important, but were still on the hunt for towns who are keen to take on the Pink Up Your Town challenge however it might look in 2020! While its been a difficult year for all of us its been especially challenging for those experiencing breast cancer and their families. By Pinking Up your streets and fundraising this October youll be ensuring our incredible McGrath Breast Care Nurses are there to support families when they need it most. 18.01.2022 "Crazy plot twist, Ive found myself on an adventure that no one would ever ask for, but one that must be fought with positivity, great people, and a stellar oncology team!" Melissa was diagnosed with breast cancer on her 36th birthday. With no family history of breast cancer and living a very healthy lifestyle, Melissa thought nothing of it when she noticed a lump on her breast. Mostly unconcerned, she booked an appointment to have the lump looked at but assumed nothing coul...d possibly be wrong. When her doctor told her she had breast cancer she was completely shocked. In the weeks following her diagnosis, she recalled having millions of questions and concerns but with the support and compassion of three incredible McGrath Breast Care Nurses, Natalie, Jen & Tamara, she was at ease. Along with a stellar oncology team and amazing friends by her side, Melissa has been completely supported every step of the way. Her friend, Jo, took her support even further when she refused to let Melissa rock her new look alone and decided to shave her head and fundraise for McGrath Breast Care Nurses.

18.01.2022 When Deborah Noonan, a resident of the Margaret River region, came across Pink Up Your Town, she instantly knew it would be the best way to honour the memory of a friend she had lost to breast cancer. As our committee and helpers grew, I met wonderful, courageous, and strong women who are living and fighting breast cancer every day. Deborah and the incredible Margaret River Pink Up Your Town committee organised events like high teas, archery competitions, breast cancer awar...eness evenings, and the main event, the Pink Ball. The Margret River region pinked up for an entire week and raised an amazing $41,000 in support of McGrath Breast Care Nurses. So what did it take? In the beginning, take small steps, surround yourself with like-minded and motivated people." Deborah shared. We couldnt be more thankful to the incredible team that brought Pink Up Your Town to life in Margaret River. So whos on board for Pink Up Your Town 2020?

17.01.2022 "We try to involve patients in their treatment, give them information and empower them to make their own decisions, shares McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Michiko. With breast cancer, you often don’t see an injury and patients can keep how they really feel inside, they don’t want to be a burden on the family so we are there to support them emotionally and psychologically." Nurses like Michiko provide so much more than clinical care and advice. A McGrath Breast Care Nurse also provides patients and their families with invaluable psychological and emotional support as they navigate their diagnosis and treatment.

16.01.2022 Having experienced breast cancer herself, Maria and her husband Les recently had one of their steers auctioned off in support of McGrath Breast Care Nurses. Marias very own McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Lisa Bowman was even along to watch the auction at Roma Saleyards. Together they raised over $2,000 in support of nurses like Lisa!

15.01.2022 Last year we were lucky enough to take a trip out west to celebrate Pink Up Mudgee. Our friends in Mudgee have been pinking up since 2015 and every year seems bigger and better than the last. Mudgee always take the brief to pink up very seriously. Last year they saw 200 businesses and community groups across the town involved in events throughout October, each doing their bit in support of McGrath Breast Care Nurses. We cant wait to see how Mudgee pink up a little differently this year. Its not too late to get involved, register your town at www.pinkupyourtown.com.au.

Join us on Monday 24th August at 7:30pm as we tune in to Icon Cancer Centre - Australias Ask the Professor, life after breast cancer Facebook Live event. Internationally recognised Radiation Oncologist Professor John Boyages AM Will be joining Icon Medical Director Dr Ian Irving to answer questions about life after cancer.

14.01.2022 Even the cancellation of the Gold Coast Marathon this year wasnt enough to stop Charlotte from running 42.2km in support of McGrath Breast Care Nurses. Rather than having an official race to run, I mapped out my own 42.2km course and ran that instead. I figured Id put in so much work already and I didnt want to give up. Charlotte shares. I chose to fundraise for the McGrath Foundation after losing my mum to breast cancer six years ago. She was on my mind every step of the way which made me determined to keep putting one foot in front of the other. With her family and friends there to cheer her across the finish line, Charlotte smashed her first ever marathon and her fundraising goals. Congrats Charlotte and thank you for your amazing support!

13.01.2022 Unless youve experienced breast cancer, its likely that youve never seen one of these before! These bright and patterned bundles are breast cushions! Breast cushions are specially designed crescent-shaped cushions that are often used during recovery. People recovering from surgery find that these cushions help them sit, sleep, and rest more comfortably, they also prevent injury that can occur while walking or wearing a seatbelt. McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Sally Haley, recently received a delivery of handmade breast cushions from the lovely team at the Zonta Club of Gladstone.

13.01.2022 After weeks on the bench, some sport is back and were more excited than ever! Teams at Modbury Vista Soccer Club were quick off the mark to pink up one of their first rounds of the season! Five of their female teams took to the field and pulled on their socks for the McGrath Foundation in support of McGrath Breast Care Nurses (they also happened to win 5/5 games on the day!). There was goal pledges, sideline games, pink hair, and a whole lot of fun. Club Secretary, Melissa ...Gilchrist, was the driving force behind this super special pink round and like many families at their club, has been touched by breast cancer herself. After being diagnosed with breast cancer 6 years ago, breast cancer awareness and support is a cause close to her heart. Were so thankful for your support Modbury Vista Soccer Club (Official)! Have a game you could pink up? Register and purchase your socks at www.pullonyoursocks.com.au/.

12.01.2022 While our fundraisers are finding that committee meetings and planning days havent quite been possible these past few months weve loved having an excuse to catch up with some of them. Our very own Tracy Bevan hosted a collection of Tea with Tracy events with some of our incredible volunteers, donors and community fundraisers. In one of these sessions, Tracy sat down with a group of club representatives to chat all things cricket and Pink Stumps Day. From being inspired by their wives, sisters and close friends who have experienced breast cancer to a desire to support their local McGrath Breast Care Nurse, it was so touching to hear the heartfelt reasons these clubs are committed to supporting our nurses, even in these challenging times.

10.01.2022 When Alberts doctor told him he had breast cancer, it came as a big shock, "I didnt have a clue that men could get breast cancer!" he shares. This year an estimated 167 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer. The good news is that our McGrath Breast Care Nurses will be there to support them every step of the way. Read Alberts story in the Courier Mail this weekend. #MensHealthWeek.

10.01.2022 I’ve had a lot of experience in supportive and palliative care. The way I describe it is the oncologist treats the cancer and the palliative care team manages all the problems it causes. McGrath Metastatic Breast Care Nurse Sam Moules shares. By the time a patient is diagnosed as metastatic, they may have seen up to 80 medical professionals. Someone like Sam becomes a single touchpoint, the one person they can turn to who is a reliable source of practical, medical, and emotional support. I’m here whether things are good or bad. I’m the one constant, I don’t go away, she says.

10.01.2022 July was a huge month, and potentially one that felt extra long for all our incredible supporters who took on the Dry July Foundation challenge. Were so excited to announce that thanks to those who gave up alcohol for the month and for their friends and family who supported their efforts, we officially raised $460,000! A huge thank you to everyone who got involved, because of you were able to help ensure that people experiencing breast cancer have the support of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse.

10.01.2022 Anita and David know first-hand, the impact a breast cancer diagnosis can have on a family and the vital role nurses play in helping families navigate the experience. When Anita was diagnosed in 2015, David struggled with the news and experienced depression throughout her treatment. In March, Anita reached her five years cancer-free milestone and to celebrate the occasion the couple held a golf day and dinner to support both the work of McGrath Breast Care Nurses and Beyond Blue. Were so thankful to our amazing supporters, like Anita and David, who always go the extra mile and champion our incredible McGrath Breast Care Nurses.

09.01.2022 Jane first experienced the incredible care of a breast care nurse when she was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. Jane once said that It was like having someone hold my hand through one of the worst nightmares of my life. It was because of this encounter, that Janes mission for the McGrath Foundation became clear, everyone experiencing breast cancer deserved the support of a specialised breast care nurse. Today, 12 years since Jane passed away from breast cancer, were celebrating her legacy. Because of what she started all those years ago, 145 McGrath Breast Care Nurses are now supporting people just like Jane, as they navigate a breast cancer diagnosis, right across Australia.

07.01.2022 Last month, the Penrith paddling community took to the waterways with the inaugural Paddle in Pink event series in celebration of Pink Up Penrith! With nine huge events across October, a handful of champion paddlers, a heap of paddle passionate Penrith locals, a few Aussie Olympians, and lots of pink zinc - we loved seeing this epic display of support for our incredible McGrath Breast Care Nurses. 06.01.2022 When Jo turned up to watch her son, Anthony, play rugby she had no idea that he had planned to pink up the game in her honour. To raise awareness, and as a birthday surprise for his mum, Anthony encouraged his team to pull on their pink socks and fundraise in support of McGrath Breast Care Nurses. Anthony and his team smashed their original fundraising goal of $600 when they raised over $2,000 across the weekend. Jo is currently undergoing chemotherapy and has McGrath Breas...t Care Nurse, Sara, by her side every step of the way. Jo shares, "Sara makes navigating the health system and all things cancer so much easier. There truly are no such things as stupid questions where Sara is concerned." 06.01.2022 A day in the life of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse looks different from nurse to nurse. Metastatic McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Kerryn, from Capital Region Cancer Service in Canberra recently shared what a regular day looks like for her. For me, no day is ever the same. Generally, I start my day in the oncology clinic where I meet with patients as they have treatment. Afternoons are usually spent visiting patients on the wards, sitting in on family meetings, discussing care options and emotionally supporting my patients. I also spend time checking bloods, monitoring patients and returning phone calls and emails. Kerryn shared. No two patients are the same and each breast cancer experience is unique, my job is to help each patient navigate the experience and understand what their diagnosis means for them.

05.01.2022 Youve caught us dreaming of summers gone by In January we were lucky enough to meet this pair when they pulled on their pink polos and volunteered at the Pink Test. Chrissy and her son-in-law, Neil, have been volunteering together for years.Neil was married to my daughter Michelle, and we lost her to breast cancer in 2010 when she was only 32 Chrissy shares. The year doesnt start for us unless we volunteer for the McGrath Foundation, it just means a lot to us. You just feel that connection from people who want to help and thats fantastic. We feel so lucky to have such incredible volunteers like Chrissy and Neil.

03.01.2022 When single mum of three, Selena was diagnosed with breast cancer is 2018, she was so thankful to have McGrath Breast Care Nurse Tracey Beattie. Breast health has always been important to me because my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 39. I was vigilant in conducting regular self-checks and planned to start getting regular mammograms when I turned 45. When I was 42, I felt a lump in my breast and booked in for a mammogram. The Breast Screen bus was due to ar...rive in town in a few weeks. Fortunately, the lump I had found was benign, but the mammogram picked up some other lumps I couldnt feel. I dont know how I would have got through this without Tracey. I didnt really talk about my breast cancer with my friends while I was being treated. Tracey was there for that. Selena shares. Im a single mum of three and my kids were my main concern. Tracey was incredible in helping me manage with the kids as I wanted to ensure there was a little disruption to their lives as possible. Help ensure that our McGrath Breast Care Nurses like Tracey, can continue to provide support to families experiencing breast cancer and go Dry this July for the McGrath Foundation! #DryJuly Read Selenas story: www.dryjuly.com/2020/selenas-story Register for Dry July: https://mcgfdn.com/DryJuly-Register

02.01.2022 Whether theyre newly diagnosed or in the middle of treatment, a great support network is vital for anyone experiencing breast cancer. But as a supporter of someone with breast cancer, we know that its often hard to know how to help so we asked McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Pip, for a few tips! 1. Sometimes its the little things that can make the biggest difference. Consider a bright bunch of flowers with a handwritten card or a warm jumper or scarf that they can take to trea...tment with them. Small and simple gifts can brighten someones day. 2. The ability to listen, understand and be there when a person needs to vent or make decisions is so important. You dont need to give advice, instead think of some practical ways that you can help them work through their thoughts and feelings. Perhaps help them put together a list of questions that they can take to their doctor or McGrath Breast Care Nurse, or help them plan out their work/life/treatment schedule. 3. Make sure they are getting the care they need. McGrath Breast Care Nurses are free for those who need them, direct your friend to our website so they can find their nearest nurse, visit https://mcgfdn.com/findanurse.

01.01.2022 Were getting ready to pack away the wine glasses because #DryJuly is only two weeks away! Tag a friend below and encourage them to take up the challenge to go as dry as youre willing to try for the McGrath Foundation this July. Register at https://mcgfdn.com/DryJuly-about.
