16.01.2022 Important Update | SA dental restrictions reduced to Level 1 The Australian Dental Association South Australia branch in collaboration with the SA government and SA Health have reduced the SA dental restrictions to Level 1 as of tomorrow, Sunday 22nd November 2020. This means that we are now able to resume all of our dental services for our patients.... Due to the nature of the restrictions over the last week, we have cancelled more patients than we have room to reappoint again this week. Due to this, our team will work through our cancellation list and prioritise bringing forward appointments that we deem to be more time sensitive than others. Our team will be contacting these patients to offer them earlier appointment times. If you are one of our patients that was rescheduled due to the lockdown and wish to request an earlier time than your rescheduled time, please contact us on 8258 3883 and our reception team will do our best to accommodate you pending availability. If your new rescheduled time suits you, then we ask that you please keep your new appointment unless we call you to offer you a sooner time. Over the coming weeks we will look to extend our opening hours to cater for the lost hours due to the lockdown. We appreciate your understanding and patience with this matter and do apologise for any inconvenience caused. Rest assured, that the safety of our patients and staff is of the utmost importance to us, which is why we are maintaining many of the clinic protocols put in place to manage COVID-19, such as: - Screening patients over the phone regarding cold/flu like symptoms and recent travel and postponing appointments if unwell - Additional screening upon arrival at the clinic regarding cold/flu like symptoms and recent travel or visits to hotspots - Recording of temperature of all staff and patients upon arrival at the clinic to screen for fevers - All patients required to use hand sanitiser upon entry to the practice - Waiting room chairs spaced to allow for social distancing (you may be requested to wait outside/in your car if our waiting room is at capacity due to social distancing) - No magazines currently available in the waiting room - Pre-procedural mouth rinse to reduce bacterial load in mouth If you are in need of an appointment with one of our dentists and haven’t yet contacted us, please call us on 8258 3883 during business hours and we will assist you over the phone with any questions or bookings for the coming weeks before the end of the year.

16.01.2022 Manual Toothbrush vs. Electric Toothbrush This is definitely a personal preference argument, as each individual will find one more comfortable than the other! Manual toothbrushes are cheaper, more accessible, and provide more control. Manual toothbrushes generally cost anywhere between $1-$15, and you’ll always be able to find them! Your grocery store, petrol station, and of course at your dental practice. ... Many people prefer the manual toothbrush because the motion of brushing gives them confidence that their teeth are clean. Electric toothbrushes require less mobility, often come with a built-in timer, and can stop you from pressing too hard on your teeth and gums Having an electric toothbrush means that there is no brushing involved. You simply glide the bristles over all the surfaces of your teeth, and the rotating brush head will do the rest. Many electric toothbrushes come with a built in timer which will help you brush for the recommended 2 minutes, and a feature that prevents you from applying too much pressure. Applying too much pressure to your teeth can cause abrasion, which can often come with some consequential discomfort Which type of toothbrush do you use at home?

As a result of these changes, our office will be temporarily closed from Thursday 19th November 2020 until Tuesday 24th November 2020 inclusive. If you have an upcoming appointment with us within this timeframe, our reception team will be in contact with you to postpone your appointment. During this period of time, please email us at [email protected] or message us via our Facebook (McIntyre Dental) for emergency enquiries only and we would be happy to advise you as to whether you should seek emergency medical treatment at Adelaide Dental Hospital. 12.01.2022 Just like the dentists, the dental nurses like to have regular meetings in order for all staff to remain up to date with current information and protocols. 01.01.2022 WHAT IS ABRASION? Abrasion most often occurs due to applying too much pressure when brushing your teeth. It develops over a prolonged period of time, so it is ideal to stop this habit early! What does tooth abrasion look like? ... Tooth abrasion presents in little divots on your tooth, often close to the gum line. The exposed area can sometimes appear darker than the rest of your tooth, because the enamel has been scrubbed away and therefore exposing the dentine. By exposing the dentine, you may experience sensitivity to cold food or drinks The dentine helps to supply sensation to your teeth, so the extreme cold temperature will be a shock to your exposed tooth! Unfortunately dental abrasion can not be reversed, and can only be treated by applying a fluoride varnish to strengthen the dentine, or a filling to cover the exposed area. It is vital to ensure that you are using a soft bristled toothbrush. If you have a hard bristled toothbrush, or a brush with little pieces of rubber or plastic within the bristles, you will be contributing even further to tooth abrasion

01.01.2022 Use of masks and contact tracing check-in now mandatory in healthcare facilities within SA As of today 1st December 2020, all persons attending McIntyre Dental Clinic will need to complete a COVID safe check-in to allow for government tracing as well as wear a single use surgical mask whenever in the building. All persons attending are also required to use hand sanitiser upon entering the clinic, as well as immediately following treatment in one of our treatment rooms. The... above new mandates apply to all persons including patients, patient’s family members, healthcare staff, administrative staff, contractors, and cleaning staff. Please note that cloth masks are not considered sufficient for healthcare settings and single use surgical masks are the only type currently permitted for use. There are exceptions to mask wearing in some situations, such as, certain breathing difficulties, mental health conditions, communication with deaf or hard of hearing community members and people under the age of 12. These exceptions can be alerted to our reception team but will be at the discretion of the reception team as to whether it falls under the exemption list. We ask that patients come wearing a single use surgical mask as they enter if they have one in their possession, however all persons without a mask will be provided one by our reception team upon entering. Patients must keep their mask on at all times, until they are in the dental treatment room with the dentist, and the patient is only to remove their mask when both the dental assistant and dentist have their masks on. Following dental treatment the patient is required to place the mask back on over their mouth and nose and use hand sanitiser before returning to the reception area. In the case of refusal to wear a mask or check in while attending the practice, McIntyre Dental Clinic reserves the right to refuse treatment as non-compliance to the mandate will put the business at risk of breaching our legal obligations, potentially facing significant fines. To avoid overcrowding in the waiting room we ask that patients limit family members or support people to one when attending their appointment please. This will also assist in reducing mask shortages/wastage. We understand that some of these changes may cause inconvenience for our patients and we truly appreciate your ongoing understanding and support during this time.
