25.01.2022 This year has definitely been one of upheaval in the world of Facebook ads, forcing us to think laterally to make the most of what is still an extremely powerful way to grow a brand's revenue. But in the middle of some days huge/other days scrappy reporting and results combos every change brings opportunity. 25.01.2022 This client's campaign is a little unusual, in that we're building a web of ecommerce product purchases and training program sales. We're pleased that it's consistently performing - 5.54 x return on ad spend over the lifetime of the funnel. Average order value is just under $200, however many of the customers' lifetime value will increase as they (a) buy repeatedly and (b) enrol in higher-ticket training options. We're backing up the Facebook campaign with a growing email marketing system and will add Google Ads soon, to retarget.

23.01.2022 First, an on-platform store, then email marketing, and now it appears that FB is vying for space in the CRM market with tracking deals. Our advice to clients is to absolutely not put all your business info into a platform you don't own, because if it's down for a period of time, you're toast. (This actually happened for a few hours early last year ...) We'll see how the features develop on this and, if you decide to use it, be like a Scout and 'always be prepared'. A tidy tech stack we recommend for SMEs is to run your lead ads > integrate with ActiveCampaign (which has a deal tracking system similar to Hubspot's but at a very sensible price).

22.01.2022 Some businesses pages on Facebook have been given an email option in their back end. Many business owners will see this as a convenient way to run email campaigns. Word of caution: just like the new Shop feature rolling out, putting all your eggs in the one basket could be risky. If your business inadvertently breaches Facebook's policy, you could see everything on hold while you appeal. Definitely take a look if you see these features. But remember that building on your own ..."real estate" is always the safest option. If you are looking for a robust email system, there are great options. We recommend Klaviyo for eCommerce, and ActiveCampaign or MailChimp (for beginners) for others. Each will do the job well.

20.01.2022 Okay, so it's summer here in Australia which means this image isn't quite the dress code. But it does sum up how January has felt so far here at McKee Creative. I want to stop long enough to say thank you to each of our clients, and I know this year is going to be one of growth and significant contribution for each of your campaigns. New "slow fashion" and exquisitely beautiful jewelry store client who had spent quite a pile on FB ads without results ... we launched them ye...sterday and this morning had over 4 x return on ad spend. A hospitality chain running at 3.23 x return on ad spend and opening new stores as fast as their team can manage. A gorgeous couple - in their 70s so don't ever tell me you have excuses - working flat out to have their course released by the end of January to help people take out stress. A development team that wouldn't give up on a curly integration issue, and fixed it. Long-standing clients seem to have found a location for their third studio and who have people messaging to ask "When will you open here? Please come!" Another incredible woman almost ready to launch her digital campaign after working for years to help kids - yes kids - create a drug-free future. The stories are at once heartbreaking and full of better things to come. Others getting their site up to speed to launch one very cute subscription business in coming weeks. A B2B course client launched yesterday. And thank you to our copywriting clients who, via Your Ads On Demand, have sent a bunch of very fun (and diverse) topics to write for!

19.01.2022 Overall, this client's campaign is returning 4 x every dollar spent on ads. They've been with us since mid January. We've been testing a bunch of different audiences, and I post this to show the importance of retargeting - following up with people who have visited your site but have not yet purchased. If you're not familiar with our shorthand, 'TOF' is ads to the 'top of funnel', or a 'cold' audience - people who haven't heard of the brand before. ... MOF and BOF are middle and bottom of funnel. You can see the middle of funnel is outpacing the bottom at the moment with 10.93 x return on ad spend; eventually the bottom will come through. As always, the solution is the time-honoured KISS principle. The tools and platforms are secondary. The only thing our clients really need to do is answer two questions:... 1. What does your product or service do? 2. Who is it for? Then it's our job to set up the systems to get that product or service to the people who need it. Easy.

Think about it: once someone's on your list, you can speak to them any time you want to, without ad spend. Building your list year round means you also have an enormous advantage during holiday periods - every competitor is bidding for space in the news feed (which means the cost per thousand impressions can skyrocket), while you can concentrate on sending offers to your email list. At the very least, get these in place: a strong abandoned cart sequence to encourage people who didn't complete their purchase to come back and buy for lead generation, a welcome message when someone signs up to your list, telling them what to expect and where they can find the resources they need tags so that you can decide who to send a message to, depending on their interests and actions an automated sequence that educates the prospect via case studies, social proof and building your authority as the go-to timely offers related to holiday periods occasional messages where you just be a good human and offer tips, give a shout-out to a client who's achieved something excellent, or a bit of office humour. Here's one example that we find many businesses don't have set up ... when a contact visits your webpage, have a message sent out asking them if they'd like more info. Give it a go :)

Each customer is worth around $1400/year.... This translates to a return on their ad spend of 15 x what they put in. The secret to a good return on investment is not a secret at all ... solve a specific, immediate problem, know how to communicate that to the people who need it, and look after your customers for the long term.

03.01.2022 Black Friday weekend can be tough for ecomm business owners who aren't in a position to give huge discounts. But there are strategies to get through without taking too much of a hit. This account is ecomm - clothing - no discounts. It still returned 3.53 x the ad spend, so a healthy result. We paused the Top of Funnel Lookalikes that had died off and ran with the best performing interests. Bottom of Funnel - the people already familiar with the brand - saved the day.... This reinforces the importance of planning ahead, building a solid audience you can speak to via ad campaigns and email during the competitive period and, as my favourite Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy reminds us, "Don't Panic" ;)
