23.01.2022 Are we there yet? Dear students and caregivers, tonight it appears driving lessons will be permitted from 8th June under the Government staged plan to lessen COVID19 restrictions. With the optimism of someone who believes all will go to plan , I have arranged my diary for four weeks from June 8 for bookings for anyone who can make firm commitments because I know so many are understandably keen to resume their training. I aim to ensure my existing and new students can be ...accomodated so please don't hesitate to contact me as lesson availabilty is limited. Two before school bookings per week have been created due to lack of light with loss of daylight savings, and I'm offering additional Sunday morning lessons for those who often work or play sport on Saturday. As you may be aware, I work part time as a school teacher so my lesson availability includes daytime and after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I trust we can arrange suitable times for your lessons. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress and continuing your learning journey toward getting your drivers license. Just give me a call or message when ready to book on 0417959483. If you need to leave a message I'll get back to you within 24hrs. Take care & stay safe! Avril

22.01.2022 Big congratulations to Holly on achieving her Certificate of Competency today! A high standard of driving to be proud of. Awesome work. All the best for your safe driving career

19.01.2022 Hi everyone, hope you are all safe and managing your social distancing with ease. Quick update: as expected DPTI suspended commercial driver training and testing activity in cars. As you are likely aware, we are tracking comparatively well in SA with limiting transmission of Covid19, but details of how and when we can return safely to normal activities will be announced in due course. I will let you know as soon as I hear from DPTI. For now, I hope you're managing to make ...a big dent in your supervised driving hours with members of your household, but if not don't worry, this virus will pass and life will get back to normal. So many of us are having lessons in patience, me included!. Be safe, be well, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all again when the time is right. Avril Ps; making the most of this unprecedented time off work. Adopted Miss Flossy from RSPCA and thought I would train her, turns out of course, it's the trainer who needs trained first. What was I thinking? So, let's just say I've been busily distracted by my own learning journey!

17.01.2022 Congratulations Meg Earned your driving Certificate of Competency with an exceptionally high standard. Well done and all the best for your safe driving career.

13.01.2022 Hi everyone, I'm quietly optimistic that the relaxing of covid19 measures may see us back on the road sooner than expected. Will post to let you know the moment I have the green light from DPTI and ADTSA so we can continue your learning. Don't hesitate to call me on 0417959483 if you have any questions. Cheers, Avril

08.01.2022 Dear students and caregivers, No longer a surprise to anyone that we’re in unchartered waters, the magnitude and implications of the current COVID19 crisis for our vulnerable populations and health care capacity appears unprecedented. You may be considering how this may impact your usual activities. As a professional, living intentionally and on purpose, requires that I act in the interests of public safety and wellbeing. During this week I have assessed all the information t...o hand and to the best of my understanding, have come to a difficult decision. The Industry Body ADTA of SA and DPTI are reviewing driver training and testing status and auditing as information comes to hand. At this moment it is business as usual, however meetings are continuing and this may change at any time. The driver training environment is like a petri dish and well outside the recommended proximity of 1.5m and 30-minute maximum time in a static environment, and with the additional need for thorough anti-bacterial car surface cleaning between lessons. As a part time school teacher with high exposure to risk I may, like other students, unknowingly be a carrier for the disease. Passing this risk to any students within my vehicle. The flow on effect for our vulnerable loved ones and community at large is too great in my estimation. In the past two days I have turned away three new students, something that goes against everything I know. It’s heartbreaking, frankly. But I sincerely believe I best serve the community and global effort by being part of the solution rather than part of the problem. I believe history will not be kind to those who don’t act swiftly at this time. As of Thursday 26th March, I will temporarily suspend my driver training service, and review this decision fortnightly until further information ensures lessons can be conducted without risk of COVID19 transmission. This has been an excruciating decision considering my reputation and commitment to students and knowing the disappointment this decision will cause, the loss of a large part of my livelihood, and a reality check that everything we do, all we have is merely a construction and can be rearranged in a moment’s notice. As an optimist, I also believe positive lessons will emerge from this global experience. Be assured that any tasks you have signed off in your log book can be transferred to training with another CBT Accredited Instructor if that’s the way you wish to go. You could try looking on the ADTA of SA website for local instructors. It is a privilege working with you and I wish you all safety and success in all your endeavours. If you are also in ‘waiting’ mode and wish to continue lessons with me, I look forward to continuing your tuition and seeing you on the other side. I will update my FB page ‘McLaren Vale Driving School’ every couple of weeks, but please call me with any questions. Sincerely, Avril 0417959483
