As part of their #BigDataAnalytics the ATO is currently obtaining 5 years worth of insurance data from the top 31 largest insurers in order to test taxpayer income against assets owned. Think you are safe because your personal asset is owned in your trust, company or #SMSF? Think again, the ATO will also use this data to test if GST was claimed as a business asset but in reality, is a personal use asset. Sold your asset and think you are safe? The ATO is using this data to see if you have declared a capital gain on disposal of an appreciating asset like fine art. 23.01.2022 Superannuation Guarantee loophole now closed as of January 1st 2020. This is super important for all the staffing and recruitment businesses out there, but also anyone who runs their own payroll. The ATO has closed the loophole where the Super Guarantee (SG) was not needed to be paid on Salary Sacrifice amounts.... Example: John earns 100,000. On a usual wage, he is entitled to a minimum SG 9,500 contributed to his super fund. In the past, if John wanted to salary sacrifice 10,000 into super you only needed to pay SG on the 90,000, which is 8,550. This is technically shortchanging John by $950 because he wanted to salary sacrifice part of his ordinary earnings into super. Now with the changes, the SG must be calculated on the ordinary times' earnings before any salary sacrifices are made.
