19.01.2022 HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO RETIRE? For an estimate on how much you will require to retire at age 65, multiply what you think you will need per year by 17. For example, if you believe your future lifestyle will cost $50,000 p.a., you will require $850,000. When calculating your annual retirement income, you should aim to replace 70% to 90% of your rep-retirement income. For example, if you earn an average of $60,000 per year prior to retirement you should expect to require approx...imately $44,000 to $57,000 per year in retirement. The earlier you start planning for retirement, the more options you have to afford a comfortable retirement. Contact our office to discuss further details about planning for your future #Ballarat #MDS #Superannuation See more

16.01.2022 With the federal election looming, it is a good time to review party policies and how they will affect our personal finances. I do not wish to begin a political debate on a public forum, therefore, will provide some general information on Labours intended and publically disclosed policies. TAX: Labor intends to stop the use of family trusts to avoid tax by introducing a minimum 30% tax rate on trust distributions to beneficiaries ages 18 or over. It does not intent to proc...eed with the current governments future tax cuts for higher income earners, instead increasing the top marginal tax rate by 2% until 2022 -2023. In October it did agree to support the coalitions governments plan to reduce the company tax rate for businesses with a turnover of $50 million or less to 25%. NEGATIVE GEARING AND CGT: Labor would like to abolish negative gearing on existing homes bough after a date yet to be established. Negative gearing would remain for investors purchasing new properties and those with existing negative geared investments. They also want to reduce the current capital gains discount from the current 50% on investment held for 12 months or more to 25%. Existing investments will apparently be exempt. FRANKING CREDITS: Labor plans to scrap refunds of excess dividend imputation credits for investors who are not receiving a welfare benefit. Self Managed Super Fund members in pension phase whose earnings are tax free have been able to have imputed credits refunded. Under Labors regime, this will no longer be the case. Even younger members whom are currently in accumulation phase have used credits to offset tax. Again, this will no longer be a strategic option. SUPERANNUATION: Labor is committed to lowering annual non-concessional super contributions even further from $100,000 to $75,000 along with lowering the income level at which super contributions are taxed at 30% rather than 15% from $250,000 to $200,000. It intends to ban borrowings by Self Managed Super Funds. There have also been indications it may abolish current government measures that allow catch-up concessional contributions and allowing everyone to claim deductions for personal concessional contributions within the caps. Please note, before any of the above measures can be brought in, they will have to run the usual scope of public scrutiny, lobbying by those affected, possible legislative amendments and the usual political debate.
