24.01.2022 Dear camp community We realise that many of you are probably wondering what will happen with the camp this year. We haven’t opened bookings yet because feel it is unreasonable to expect anyone to commit to attending the camp at this stage, when we are ourselves unsure whether the 2020 camp will be possible. At this stage we are waiting and watching as things unfold. We are aware that even if the situation with Coronavirus improves by the time October rolls around, many peopl...e in our community will have been impacted by the virus and may be unable to attend the camp due to financial or other hardships. This could mean that running the camp will be too much of a financial risk for us in 2020. However, we have not given up on the 2020 camp just yet. We will be making a decision by the end of May as to whether we will attempt to go ahead, or postpone the camp until 2021. It is very sad and difficult to have to contemplate missing camp this year. We could all use some of the magic that camp brings - the connection to people we love, the inspirational and healing powers of music and dance, and the renewal of faith in life and humanity. The next few months are going to challenge us in ways we can’t imagine. Regardless of whether camp goes ahead in 2020 or not, we encourage you all to use this group to communicate with each other. Share beautiful and inspiring music and dance video clips, discuss your shared passions for music and dance, reminisce about past camps and share memories of the good times we all shared. Reach out to each other both here in this community group and privately. Get some skype lessons to improve your skills and make the most of being in lockdown if you can. If we all keep our spirits up and help each other to stay happy and inspired, just think what a group of talented folks we will be when the next camp rolls around! And remember that music and dance are great for your immune system, so keep playing at home! Community and a sense of belonging, are also vital to our wellbeing. This is your community, so don’t be afraid to reach out. We love you all and we want to hear from you!

23.01.2022 We have a waterfall in our backyard!

22.01.2022 We are sold out for 2018 camp and bookings are now closed.

21.01.2022 Hello camp community, we have had to make the difficult decision to postpone the camp for another year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We feel the risks are too high - financially and in terms of the health of our participants - to hold the camp this year. We are currently organising dates for October 2022 and will make an announcement as soon as those dates are confirmed. We hope all members of our camp community are healthy and happy. Please keep playing music, dancing, and celebrating the good things in life. You are all in our hearts.

20.01.2022 Its the camp secretary here - thank you to everyone involved in this year's camp and my fellow committee members for their support. I wish you all a safe trip home or on your continuing travels. The parting goodbyes and hugs are always the saddest but they're also the best part of camp because together we've shared this experience together (and survived living together close quarters in damp rainy weather lol). Its always surreal to leave our little home in the valley and return to reality but that's what makes it so special. You're all amazing people and it's been a pleasure to meet you. Hope you continue to grow and learn on your respective journeys! April

19.01.2022 Who can guess what workshop Mike is teaching?

18.01.2022 We recommend this year's camp participants bring umbrellas and other items that might make their stay more comfortable if the weather forecasts hold. At this stage light rain is expected for the duration of camp. It will not impact our activities and the valley will be beautiful and green Some suggested items (some items are more suited for those driving to camp) you may like to bring a towel rack to share with your roomies, hair dryer, some warmer clothes/shoes, old towe...ls that can be used as floor mats inside the dorms and cabins if water is walked in, thermos or keepcup style mugs to keep your tea or coffee warmer longer. Please drive carefully and to conditions on your way to and from camp :) the roads are reasonably good around camp but you can easily check road conditions before leaving home to ensure your route is clear. Any other suggestions or questions are welcome in the comments below! The excitement is building now and we can't wait to see you all next week :D

09.01.2022 We are very happy that Philip Griffin will be joining us at camp again this year. Bass players and composers will be very interested in Philip's workshops! Philip Griffin has played a wide range of plucked stringed instruments over the past 40 years. He studied and then taught classical guitar at the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music in the 1980s whilst playing Macedonian folk music in bands such as Makedonski Bop, Churinga, Xenos and Ssassa, often with Linsey Pollak.... During that period he also played bass in a reggae band, electric guitar in a jazz orchestra and drum-kit in a rockabilly band. Whilst on tour in Germany with Xenos in 1994, Philip met Ross Daly, which led to an invitation to study laouto (a Greek lute) in Athens and it was there that the idea of learning the oud came in being. A few years later, Philip moved to the Middle East, where he then lived for 3 years, studying, amongst other things the Turkish Oud. He has played extensively with Linsey Pollak, toured and recorded with Ross Daly and plays with many musicians around Australia and New Zealand. Of particular interest in relation to the oud is the Ottoman Classical tradition, with its rich repertoire of semai and pesrevs, as well as more rhythmic dance-like forms. In recent times, Philip has become involved in Baroque music, in particular playing continuo (the Baroque equivalent of the rhythm section) which feeds well into his many years of experience playing electric bass, occasional upright bass and uBass. Finding the right way to support melodies by coming up with appropriate bass-lines is a never-ending journey and one that he hopes to explore in his workshops at MEDAM Camp. To find out more about Philip go to: www.philipgriffin.com --- Workshops with Philip at the camp Composing, Arranging, Harmonising - 2 Sessions - OPEN LEVEL You want to begin to compose some music, but don’t know where to start? You’ve got a tune you want to arrange but don’t know the first steps? OR You want to add some chords to a tune, but everything you try sounds naff? Bring your problems along and let’s see what we can do! I’ve got decades of experience dealing with these issues. I may not have all the answers, but hopefully I’ve got at least some, and can help you think about things in a different way Suitable for bass-line players, chord players, melody players and singers. 17 - 22 October 2018 www.medamcamp.org.au

01.01.2022 Dear camp community We hope you are all well and staying safe during the pandemic, and that you are using your time in lockdown to do plenty of music and dance practice! We are very sad to announce that we have made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s camp until 2021 due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Even if there is a vaccine by October, the financial impact of the pandemic, coupled with travel restrictions, will make holding the camp very difficult and poses too g...reat a financial risk for the association. Also, we don’t even know whether events like the camp will be permitted by October times are still very uncertain. In the meantime, we are looking at some ways in which we can keep the camp spirit alive via some online activities and we will share these with you in the coming months. The date for 2021 is still being negotiated with the venue and we will let you all know as soon as we have finalised the details. Much love from all of us at MEDAM Association. Stay positive, play music, sing, dance and celebrate life!
