24.01.2022 Minority Groups Are Better At Evangelism Than Christians. It seems that minority groups are better at evangelism, or spreading their message in a way that causes others to follow, than most faith groups ... especially the Christian faith. Why is this?... I've noticed that minority groups are parochial and spread their message in a way that manages to enter public discourse and that begins to influence the public psyche (and therefore our culture) before the majority of Australians agree with their views ... Why are Christians no longer at the forefront of influencing public discussion, debate and thought? To read the entire thought, visit the MEDIA:fusion blog at http://www.mediafusion.net.au

24.01.2022 The Internet is a Human Right! The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has passed a resolution upholding internet freedom as a human right. It's important to note here that the resolution does not state that access to the internet is a human right, or that the internet is a basic human right. ... I don't want to put any slant on this. Instead, here is the link to the Resolution: http://geneva.usmission.gov/2012/07/05/internet-resolution/ What do you think? Should we all have the right to consume any internet media we want? And also to express ourselves on the internet in any way that we want? MEDIA:fusion will not tell you what to think. We encourage you to form an opinion and to join the discussion.

23.01.2022 Tourism New Zealand is offering gay marriage as part of a holiday package and promoting it to gay couples in Australia. The response to the article from Media:fusion reads as follows: "Is this serious?... A national tourism board is now finding cheap ways to increase tourism by offering marriage as part of a holiday! No problems with advertising to the gay and lesbian community, but do offer a marriage as part of the trip lends itself to desperation and is akin to scraping the bottom of the Vegas ideas barrel. Come on New Zealand. There is nothing wrong with your country being progressive, but please dont cheapen your brand (and country)." Read the article for yourself and join the discussion. Does this cheapen the New Zealand brand and country? MEDIA:fusion will not tell you what to think. We encourage you to form an opinion and to join the discussion.

20.01.2022 Islamic and Jewish Symbols on Food. I noticed recently that a growing number of food products carry the 'Halal' and 'Kosher' symbols on their labels. When scratching the surface and find out why, I discovered that the reason for this is to communicate the food preparation techniques, promote the dietry benefits to potential consumers and to make it easier for a certain sectors of the community to buy certain food products.... On face value, it sounds like a good idea. It makes it easier for consumers to identify the food products that fit their lifestyles, religious beliefs and eating patterns ... and is not too different to the Australian Heart Foundation tick of approval, Made in Australia logo or the GI symbols that many food products carry. On a cultural and societal level, it seems to have a more profound effect. Based on a survey of a small number of people from all religious and cultural walks that I conducted, the presence of the 'Halal' and 'Kosher' symbols is promoting the Islamic and Jewish faiths. Certain Muslim people saw it as a way of making it easier to shop, while certain Jewish and Christian people said they would not buy products that carried the 'Halal' symbol as they feel it is promoting Islam in Australia. Should products, food or otherwise, carry any form of religious or cultural symbols or logos? Should all faiths have the right or ability to place their symbols on products such as peanut butter and tuna? And is their presence a subtle form of evangelism? - Richard Attieh. 13.01.2022 The Foxtel Advertising Campaign in Australia. Have you seen the advertising campaign that likens subscribing to Foxtel to marriage? In the tv ad, a man and a woman are getting married. The minister asks them if they are happy to marry knowing there is no long term commitment and they can quit at any time. ... Online and in print, the media shows the couple splitting up. What does this ad say about marriage? Is it trivialising marriage? Is it taking a sacred institution to all faiths and most cultures, and turning it into something that is non-sacred? In an attempt to show you what I am talking about, we can't help but to promote Foxtel. MEDIA:fusion will not tell you what to think. 04.01.2022 Should Channel 7's Sunrise Program Tell Us What To Think? Debate has been circulating for some time now about the Channel 7 breakfast news and current affairs television program, Sunrise with David Koche and Melissa Doyle, supporting same sex marriage in Australia. Earlier this year, the Sunrise program decided and announced to Australia that it is in favour of gay marriage in Australia.... The question I'd like to ask not whether you agree or disagree with the notion of gay marriage, but whether it's appropriate for a news and current affairs program (that is widely understood to be objective and impartial to the news it reports on)to form an opinion and join one side of a topical news item and public debate ... be it gay marriage, carbon tax, politics, abortion or any other issue that might arise? Is the actions of the Sunrise program any different to newspapers and radio stations taking a slant one way or the other on any issue? For example, radio 2GB in Sydney is more or less a pro-Liberal party station while other stations express their political views toward other political parties. Is it OK for our media outlets to tell us what to think? Does this filter their objectivity? On a deeper level, is the opposition to gay marriage the sole responsibility of the evangelical or conservative Christian faith? What about the Jewish Islamic and Hindi faiths? And what about atheists? Is silence a form of agreement? Is all this talk about gay marriage normalising the idea so that it becomes a more acceptable idea in our culture?
